Emeriss is one of the four Dragons of Nightmare and can be found in one of the four random spawn locations at Feralas, The Hinterlands, Ashenvale, and Duskwood when the bosses are spawned.

This guide will help you prepare for his unique special abilities, explain a strategy to maximize your odds of success, and go into detail on his loot table.

Emeriss Summary by Role

1.1.

Tanks

  • Corruption of the Earth IconCorruption of the Earth will cause massive damage to all players within 100 yards of the boss whenever he hits 75%, 50% and 25% health. Prepare accordingly with defensive cooldowns and consumables.
  • You will need at least 2 tanks so that Noxious Breath IconNoxious Breath can be prevented on the current tank most of the time, allowing for greater threat generation.
  • As usual with Dragon bosses, turn them away from the raid such that your raid group is standing to the side of the boss, as they will do a very dangerous breath attack from the front and also have a tail sweep attack from their backs.
  • Their breath attack, Noxious Breath IconNoxious Breath inflicts a damage over time effect, increases the cooldown on your abilities by 10 seconds and stacks up to 6 times. This all but requires a tank swap, as even one application of the breath will cause you to fall very behind on threat generation.
  • Move away from the mushrooms left over by any killed players.
1.2.

Healers

  • Corruption of the Earth IconCorruption of the Earth will cause massive damage to all players within 100 yards of the boss whenever he hits 75%, 50% and 25% health. Prepare accordingly with your largest area of effect heals on the raid and big single-target heals on the current tank, as well as defensive cooldowns and consumables.
  • Remove the Volatile Infection IconVolatile Infection disease as soon as it is applied to prevent a lot of raid damage.
  • Make sure to avoid the green clouds that roam the encounter area, as they will sleep you for 5 seconds, possibly causing deaths in the process.
  • Move away from the mushrooms left over by any killed players.
1.3.

DPS

  • Make sure to avoid the green clouds that roam the encounter area, as they will sleep you for 5 seconds, possibly causing deaths in the process.
  • In order to avoid Corruption of the Earth IconCorruption of the Earth and the high pressure it causes for the healers, you might want to run away so that you are more than 100 yards away from the boss whenever he is close to hitting 75%, 50% and 25% health. Once the debuff is applied, it is safe to return and continue DPS.
  • If you have a disease-removing ability, help out with removing Volatile Infection IconVolatile Infections.
  • Move away from the mushrooms left over by any killed players.

Emeriss Important Abilities

Emeriss
  • Corruption of the Earth IconCorruption of the Earth is cast whenever Emeriss loses 25% health and deals 20% of a player's health in damage every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. This requires very heavy healing and will cause massive pressure for the raid healers, unless most of the DPS move 100 yards away from the boss before the 75%, 50% and 25% health milestones. If you can not or do not want to move away for this, make sure to use defensive and healing cooldowns and consumables.
  • Volatile Infection IconVolatile Infection is a long lasting disease that causes the affected player and anyone close to take a lot of damage. This should be removed ASAP.
  • Spore Cloud IconSpore Cloud causes a deadly mushroom to spawn on the corpse of any player who dies during the fight. These must be avoided at all costs, or are likely to cause further deaths.
  • Mark of Nature IconMark of Nature is cast on any player who dies during the fight, lasts for 15 minutes and causes them to fall asleep for the duration of the debuff if they re-engage Emeriss, thus preventing players from re-joining the fight if they die at any point.
  • Noxious Breath IconNoxious Breath is a breath attack in front of the boss and forces a tank swap by reducing the threat output of the affected tank significantly.

Strategy for Emeriss

Emeriss is a difficult Dragon of Nightmare fight, which stresses the ability of your healers to keep up with its massive raid damage every 25% health and diseases. While the fight can be relatively easy if no one dies and no mushrooms spawn, it can quickly get out of control otherwise.

Just like Lord Kazzak, people from outside your group can try to destroy your attempt by going in and suiciding, becoming deadly mushrooms in the process. Make sure to watch out for any such attempts and keep the mushrooms in mind when fighting the other faction at the same time as Emeriss.

Start the fight by pulling the boss to the bottom of the ramp and have your main tank turn him sideways, such that the raid group can spread out around him, in order to avoid massive damage from Volatile Infection IconVolatile Infection if its not dispelled instantly.

Whenever the boss approaches 75%, 50% and 25% health, you might want most of the DPS run 100 yards away from the boss, thus avoiding Corruption of the Earth IconCorruption of the Earth entirely and making healing much easier. Regardless, you will have to prepare defensive cooldowns and big heals for it. Rinse and repeat until he is dead, and good luck with the loot!
