Kurinnaxx Guide: Strategy, Abilities, Loot
Kurinnaxx is the first boss in the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj.
Kurinnaxx is perhaps the most straightforward and easiest boss in the instance, and should prove to be an easy kill, if your group watches out for the Sand Traps.
Kurinnaxx Summary by Role
Tanks
- Face the boss away from the raid to avoid his Wide Slash.
- Have at least two tanks to deal with the Mortal Wound stacking mechanic. You will want to swap at around 5 stacks.
- A group of adds will spawn during the fight, so the off-tank at the time will need to pick them up as quickly as possible.
- Kurinnaxx enrages at 30% health, so save defensive cooldowns for the end of the fight.
Healers
- Watch out for the tank's Mortal Wound stacks, as this will reduce the healing that they receive.
- When the group of adds spawns, try to limit your healing threat during that time, if possible, to allow the tank to quickly gather up all of the adds. If stopping is impossible, then just make sure you are watching in case you pick up the adds by accident.
- Pay attention to the ground to watch for Sand Traps.
- Kurinnaxx enrages at 30% health, so save defensive cooldowns for the end of the fight.
DPS
- All DPS need to stay behind the boss.
- Ranged DPS will need to swap to the adds that spawn to quickly AoE them down.
- Pay attention to the ground to watch for Sand Traps.
- Kurinnaxx enrages at 30% health, so save your cooldowns for the end of the fight.
General Tips for Kurinnaxx
- Keep the boss facing away from the raid, with the tanks swapping in front of him.
- The most dangerous part of the fight is when the adds spawn, so make sure the tank is ready to pick them up and all of the ranged DPS are ready to AoE them down.
- Pay attention to the ground to watch for Sand Traps.
- Kurinnaxx enrages at 30% health, so save your cooldowns for the end of the fight.
Strategy for Kurinnaxx
Kurinnaxx is relatively simple strategically compared to most other bosses. The entire fight comes down to only a few mechanics, mainly keeping him facing away from the raid with the tanks swapping correctly. The boss will be stacking Mortal Wound on the current tank, so your tanks need to just swap at around 5 stacks. The trickiest part of the fight comes from when the adds spawn, and the tanks will need to check if they need to swap before the off-tank runs to pick up all of the new adds. These adds are fairly weak with low health, so the ranged DPS can AoE them down quickly, but they still need to be tanked. The last major thing to watch out for is the boss's enrage at 30% health, so just be ready with cooldowns to make that part of the fight go quickly.
The only major mechanic that healers and DPS will need to watch for is his Sand Traps. Every so often, Kurinnaxx will spawn sand traps under the raid, which will detonate shortly after spawning, dealing large amounts of damage and severely reducing your hit chance for 20 seconds. These can always be avoided as long as players are ready for them, so having someone call out when they spawn is usually a good idea.
