If you thought Insane in the Membrane was a challenge, we’ve got a surprise for you! A level 42 Gnome Mage has reached Exalted with Darnassus in WoW Classic, without access to the usual Runecloth turn-ins. Even more impressively, this feat was achieved not once, but twice…
No Runecloth, No Problem!
At level 42, the Runecloth reputation quests are not available. So how did this player do it? The answer is both simple and incredibly time-consuming: 1,800 Hippogryph Eggs!
Each egg needs to be put in the Super-Egg-o-Matic machine in Gadgetzan, and then the nearby NPC will grant you 10 reputation with Darnassus. Multiply that by 1,800 and you get the 18,000 reputation needed to go to Exalted.
One Egg at a Time

To earn the reputation, the player had to collect Hippogryph Eggs from southern Feralas, just below the Ruins of Isildien, then travel all the way to Gadgetzan to turn them in. Here’s the catch: you can only carry one egg at a time.
That meant making the full trip 1,800 times.
Each round trip took up to 25 minutes, and with no way to speed it up beyond travel efficiency, the grind stretched into a whopping 34 days of /played time—over 800 real-world hours of dedication.

Not Their First Time
The player who goes by the name “Omelette” actually completed this insane grind TWICE. The first time was in 2020, right before the Ahn’Qiraj War Effort made reputation gains easier. Fearing no one would believe it, they redid the entire thing for proof!

Could It Have Been Faster?
Redditors quickly jumped in to theorycraft faster methods. One suggested storing 12 eggs at a time with a vendor in Feathermoon, then mass turning them in. This could nearly double the pace to 5 eggs per hour, but required constant, high-attention play.
Why Level 42?
Not for memes! The quest isn’t available until level 42.
What’s Next?
Now that the grind is over (again), players are already taunting Omelette to attempt the same on Hardcore! While that would be crazy, Omelette says it would be impossible to finish before the War Effort launch, rendering all their efforts useless!
