Foreword

One of the biggest differences between Classic and other iterations of WoW is the widespread usage of consumables. There are few limits to how many consumables you can use, and consumables can be incredibly powerful. Consumables can be extremely useful in all aspects of the game and can be a big difference in PvP, as well as raiding. Below is a list of all the possible consumables that you would be able to get and make use of as a Protection Paladin.

For almost every other class and specialization in the game, this is where we would say that consumables are strong, but not required. Protection Paladins are the exception. If you play a Protection Paladin, you should be prepared for heavy consumable usage, especially with Mana consumables. You are already at a huge disadvantage, and not using consumables will cement you as being completely non viable instead of being barely workable.

World Buffs

World buffs are buffs that you will not be able to get on your own. Generally, these are buffs you will go and get with your guild if you want to stack all possible buffs for a raid. Generally, these require some sort of raid-related activity to obtain.

  • Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer Icon Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer increases your chance to critical hit with spells by 10%, with melee or ranged attacks by 5%, and your attack power by 140. Everyone in Stormwind will receive this buff once someone turns in the Head of Onyxia Icon Head of Onyxia, which drops off of Onyxia in Onyxia's Lair. This buff can also be obtained by doing the exact same thing with the Head of Nefarian Icon Head of Nefarian/Head of Nefarian Icon Head of Nefarian from Nefarian in Blackwing Lair. They are the exact same buff and they do not stack.
  • Songflower Serenade Icon Songflower Serenade increases your Critical Strike Chance by 5% and adds 15 to all of your stats. You receive this buff by cleansing a Corrupted Songflower and then looting a Cleansed Songflower in Felwood.
  • Resist Fire Icon Resist Fire increases your Fire Resistance by 83. While in Upper Blackrock Spire, have a Priest use their Mind Control Icon Mind Control ability on a Scarshield Spellbinder to have them cast this on all raid members.
  • Spirit of Zandalar IconSpirit of Zandalar increases all of your primary stats by 15% and your movement speed by 10% for 2 hours. This buff works the same way as the Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer Icon Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer, but is gained from being in Booty Bay when someone turns in the Heart of Hakkar Icon Heart of Hakkar from Hakkar in Zul'Gurub.
  • Fengus' Ferocity IconFengus' Ferocity, Mol'dar's Moxie IconMol'dar's Moxie, and Slip'kik's Savvy IconSlip'kik's Savvy are all 2-hour buffs that can be obtained from Dire Maul North by talking to the various ogre bosses after successfully completing a tribute run. You do not actually need to complete the run yourself, you just need to run into an instance where a run was completed and talk to Guard Fengus, Guard Mol'dar, and Guard Slip'kik. The buffs will give you 200 AP, 15% Stamina, and 3% spell crit chance, respectively.
  • Whenever the Darkmoon Faire is active, you can get a 10% damage buff, a 10% stat buff to a specific stat, or +25 to all resistances by answering some questions from the fortune teller Sayge in the faire. You can effectively choose which buff you want by answering his questions in the specific way.

Best Raid Consumables for Protection Paladin

While this guide lists all of the potentially useful consumables that you could ever make use of, you most likely will not need most of them. This is the shorter list for what are considered the most important consumables to have while raiding.

The Elixir and Juju buffs all increase your damage, while the other potions and runes give you health or Mana. While it is important to have health potions, bandages, and a Healthstone available just in case, you probably will not end up using them. You will certainly make use of your Mana consumables, however, as you will have a low Mana pool (especially early on), and more Mana means more spell casts during a fight, which can be a large damage increase, depending on how long the encounter might be.

It is also important to realize that the first raid is Molten Core, where the most common type of damage you will take is Fire damage. Some of the harder bosses, such as Ragnaros, can deal lots of Fire damage, and you might want to consider having these defensive Fire Resistance consumables, just in case you need them.

All On-Use Consumables for Paladins

5.1.

Health and Mana

Potions all share a cooldown. You cannot use multiple potions at the same time, and when you use a potion, it will start its cooldown for all potions. That being said, it is still useful to have multiple potions in your bags for different situations. Being in combat does not affect your potion cooldown or availability.

5.2.

Damage

Engineering bombs share cooldowns as well, so you do not need many different ones.

  • Oil of Immolation Icon Oil of Immolation deals pulsing AoE Fire damage for 15 seconds. It is crafted through Alchemy.
  • Stratholme Holy Water Icon Stratholme Holy Water deals damage to Undead enemies around the targeted area when thrown. It drops from Stratholme.
  • Goblin Land Mine Icon Goblin Land Mine places a mine that deals Fire damage when triggered and is crafted through Engineering.
  • Goblin Sapper Charge Icon Goblin Sapper Charge instantly creates an explosion that deals AoE Fire damage to enemies around you. It is crafted through Engineering.
  • Crystal Charge Icon Crystal Charge deals Fire damage to enemies within 3 yards of the targeted area when thrown. It is a quest reward from Un'Goro Crater. This shares a cooldown with Engineering bombs, so is useful only if you are not an Engineer.
  • Dense Dynamite Icon Dense Dynamite deals Fire damage at a target location after a short cast. It is crafted through Engineering.
  • Thorium Grenade Icon Thorium Grenade deals Fire damage at a target location after a short cast and incapacitates enemies hit for 3 seconds. It is crafted through Engineering.
  • Iron Grenade Icon Iron Grenade deals Fire damage at a target location after a short cast and incapacitates enemies hit for 3 seconds. It is crafted through Engineering.

All Buff Consumables for Paladins

6.1.

Flasks

Flasks have a restriction, which is that you can only have one flask active at any given time. It is also worth noting that flasks are some of the most expensive consumables in the game since they require Black Lotus Icon Black Lotus to craft. You should use these sparingly, especially early on when gold will be very tight.

6.2.

Offensive

  • R.O.I.D.S. Icon R.O.I.D.S. increases your Strength by 25 for 1 hour. While using this item triggers a 1-hour cooldown on similar items (such as Ground Scorpok Assay Icon Ground Scorpok Assay), you can still stack the different buffs together by logging out, which will make the cooldown go down, but not the duration of the buff on your character. You get this item from completing Rage of Ages (repeatable quest) in the Blasted Lands.
  • Elemental Sharpening Stone Icon Elemental Sharpening Stone increases your melee crit chance by 2%. It is crafted through Blacksmithing.
  • Elixir of the Mongoose Icon Elixir of the Mongoose increases your Agility by 25 and your Critical Strike Chance by 2%. This is crafted through Alchemy.
  • Juju Power Icon Juju Power increases your Strength by 30. This is a quest reward given by Witch Doctor Mau'ari in Everlook, Winterspring.
  • Juju Might Icon Juju Might increases your Attack Power by 40. This is a quest reward given by Witch Doctor Mau'ari in Everlook, Winterspring.
  • Juju Flurry Icon Juju Flurry increases your attack speed by 3%. This is a quest reward given by Witch Doctor Mau'ari in Everlook, Winterspring.
  • Wizard Oil Icon Wizard Oil increases your spell damage by 24. This is crafted through Enchanting.
  • Greater Arcane Elixir Icon Greater Arcane Elixir increases your spell damage by 35 for 1 hour. This is crafted through Alchemy.
  • Winterfall Firewater Icon Winterfall Firewater increases your size and Attack Power by 35 for 20 minutes when used. This is obtained from killing Winterfall Furbolgs, which are also needed for the Juju Power Icon Juju Power quest. Does not stack with Juju Might Icon Juju Might.
6.3.

Defensive

6.4.

Food and Drink

Similar to flasks, you can only have one food and one drink active at any time.

6.5.

Specific Resistances

The same potion rules apply to the protection potions; once you use one, it will start a cooldown on all of your potions based on the cooldown of the potion you used.
