Talent and Essence Cheatsheet
Wrathion, the Black Emperor
We advise you to use the following essences against Wrathion, the Black Emperor.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
If your group is struggling a lot with killing groups of Crackling Shards, you can opt into a more aggressive AoE build by taking Resonance and Reverberate, but this is only suggested if you really need the extra add damage.
Tips
Make sure you watch the boss mod timer for Smoke and Mirrors, and do not activate your cooldowns, like Arcane Power, right before he casts it, as he becomes immune after the cast.
During the Smoke and Mirrors phase, prioritize single isolated Crackling Shards, since Arcane can burst these down quickly. If you went for the more AoE focused build listed above, you should instead focus down the groups of Shards.
Mythic Tips
There are no Arcane Mage tips on Mythic Difficulty.
For more information, please refer to our Wrathion, the Black Emperor guide.
Maut
We advise you to use the following essences against Maut.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
During the second phase, you should watch your health carefully, since you will be reflecting all damage you do to the boss. You can use Greater Invisibility to reduce this damage if you are falling low. It is generally not recommended to use your DPS cooldowns in this phase unless specifically discussed with the healers, as the odds of killing yourself with the large burst that Arcane does is very high.
When an Orb gets soaked, you will get a large amount of Mana regeneration. When you have this bonus Mana regen, you should be able to constantly remain in your burn phase, and do not have to do any Mana conservation.
Mythic Tips
You should Remove Curse yourself when afflicted by Ancient Curse, rather than running into Devoured Abyss.
For more information, please refer to our Maut guide.
The Prophet Skitra
We advise you to use the following essences against The Prophet Skitra.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
You can use Shimmer to Shimmer through the Images of Absolution without taking any damage from them.
For more information, please refer to our The Prophet Skitra guide.
Dark Inquisitor Xanesh
We advise you to use the following essences against Dark Inquisitor Xanesh.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
We do not have any boss specific tips for this fight for Arcane Mages.
Mythic Tips
There are no Arcane Mage tips on Mythic Difficulty.

The Hivemind
We advise you to use the following essences against The Hivemind.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
This fight has a lot of cleave and AoE, however, depending on the strategy used by your group, you can either focus on boss damage, or you can pick Resonance and Reverberate to focus down Aqir Drones, but this is not really advised unless you are struggling on killing Drones.
Tips
You can use Shimmer to avoid getting hit by the Aqir Drones, and kite them over other Drones, so they can be AoEd down more efficiently.
Mythic Tips
There are no Arcane Mage tips on Mythic Difficulty.
For more information, please refer to our The Hivemind guide.
Shad'har the Insatiable
We advise you to use the following essences against Shad'har the Insatiable.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
Arcane Mages are good at dealing with the Entropic Buildup pools. You can not use Ice Block to remove the debuff from soaking the pool, however, you can use it to stop the damage from it while Ice Blocked. Additionally, when Ice Block is on cooldown, you can use Greater Invisibility to reduce the damage taken from soaking.
To optimize DPS, you should activate Alter Time and then use Shimmer to Shimmer out of the raid to the edge of the room when you are fixated by the Living Miasma. You can then re-activate Alter time to instantly heal back to full health and get back into the group.
Mythic Tips
There are no Arcane Mage tips on Mythic Difficulty.
For more information, please refer to our Shad'har the Insatiable guide.
Drest'agath
We advise you to use the following essences against Drest'agath.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
When affected by Mutterings of Insanity, you should use Shimmer to get far away from the rest of the raid.
We suggest Overpowered over Enlightened on this fight to increase your burst DPS on the boss when affected by Void Infused Ichor. If you need more overall DPS at the cost of a bit of boss damage, Enlightened can be used.
You should aim to have your cooldowns ready for most of the times you take the buff from a Void Infused Ichor, to maximize damage to the boss.
Mythic Tips
You can use Ice Block to remove the debuff from Mutterings of Insanity (or the stun if you do not remove the debuff before it expires) to avoid getting stunned altogether. This can be useful if you get it during Arcane Power to ensure you spend as little time stunned as possible, especially if your healers usually take a couple of seconds to dispel the stun.
Although not a Mythic specific tip, it is extra important on Mythic to line up your cooldowns with taking the Void Infused Ichor, since Arcane can do large amounts of boss damage compared to other classes in these short burst windows.
For more information, please refer to our Drest'agath guide.
Vexiona
We advise you to use the following essences against Vexiona.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
You should try to line up your Touch of the Magi usages with the adds, especially when running Arcane Echo to get a lot of free cleave DPS out of it.
>Tips
When you get Encroaching Shadows, you should activate Alter Time and then use Shimmer to get away from the raid and re-activate Alter time to get back into the group.
Mythic Tips
On Mythic, it is generally advised to just take the single target DPS build, as there is a low chance the group will lack enough AoE DPS to deal with the adds, and the only real DPS check is the final phase, which is a pure single target phase.
For more information, please refer to our Vexiona guide.
Ra-den the Despoiled
We advise you to use the following essences against Ra-den the Despoiled.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
Phase 1
When affected by Unstable Vita, you will want to activate Alter Time and then use Shimmer to Shimmer to one of the assigned locations to deal with Unstable Vita. When you are done dealing with the Unstable Vita, you can re-activate Alter Time to get back into your normal position.
You can use Ice Block to solo soak the Void Collapse if you get affected by it. On Normal and Heroic, you can also use Greater Invisibility to solo soak this.
You should try to line up Touch of the Magi with the various adds that spawn in this phase to maximize the cleave from Arcane Echo.
Phase 2
You should use Shimmer to quickly break the Charged Bonds.
Mythic Tips
You can use Ice Block to get rid of the Corrupted Existence, so you can be healed to full health.
For more information, please refer to our Ra-den the Despoiled guide.
Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn
We advise you to use the following essences against Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
Intermission Phase
When affected by Cursed Blood, you can cast Alter Time and then use Shimmer to quickly Shimmer out of the group and then re-activate Alter Time to get back into position.
Mythic Tips
If your group uses the strategy where Cursed Blood does not get dispelled at all, make sure you do not use Ice Block while you have it, as it will instantly dispel it, and most likely cause a wipe. You can still use Greater Invisibility to reduce the damage you take.
For more information, please refer to our Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn guide.
Carapace of N'Zoth
We advise you to use the following essences against Carapace of N'Zoth.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Generally the small adds on this fight are automatically cleaved down by the group, but if you really want or need to do extra damage to them, you can opt into Reverberate and Resonance.
Tips
Phase 1
You can use Alter Time followed by Shimmer to quickly get away from other players when affected by Madness Bomb and then re-activate Alter Time to heal back to full health and get back to your position.
Intermission to Phase 2
You can use Arcane Explosion while moving towards the Synthesis Growths, to reduce the size of the Mycelial Cysts.
Phase 2
Make sure to watch the timer for Occipital Blast to avoid using your cooldowns right before N'Zoth casts this spell, as you will very likely have to move.
Phase 3
Just like in Phase 1, you should Alter Time followed by Shimmer to get away from other players when affected by Insanity Bomb. Generally speaking, you will want to ignore DPSing the Nightmare Antigen adds and let cleave classes kill these at the correct time, and focus on DPSing the boss, but this will depend on your strategy.
Mythic Tips
During the intermission phase, you should try to get yourself assigned to the right side pathway. This side contains Synthesis Growths that are grouped together (all the way in the back, 2 sets of 3), allowing you to cleave them with Touch of the Magi together with Arcane Echo to do big burst to them.
For more information, please refer to our Carapace of N'Zoth guide.
N'Zoth the Corruptor
We advise you to use the following essences against N'Zoth the Corruptor.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
Tips
Phase 1
Your main job in this phase early on should be to focus on killing Exposed Synapses that are being killed next. However, when Psychus gets multiple stacks of Synaptic Shock, if it is viable for your group setup, you should let classes that can cleave and multi-dot focus on dealing with the Synapses, while you focus purely on Psychus damage.
When Psychus has a lot of stacks of Synaptic Shock, you can use all your DPS cooldowns. What is considered "a lot" depends on your strategy. Generally speaking, 6 to 7 stacks is when you should use all your DPS cooldowns. Usually, the first time you are in the dream phase, you will not have to use any DPS cooldown on Psychus and can instead save them for the boss, but in the later dream phase, using cooldowns as described above is advisable.
Phase 2
When affected by Paranoia, you should use Shimmer to get to your linked partner as quick as possible.
When you go back into the dream realm, you should play it the same as described in Phase 1.
Phase 3
Since Phase 3 is largely a DPS check phase, you should focus on optimizing your damage here. The main thing to look for is that you do not use Rune of Power shortly before Evoke Anguish as this will force you to move out of your Rune.
Mythic Tips
Since this fight has some very strict DPS checks, and has very important timing windows, you will most likely have to discuss your Arcane Power windows with the raid team. In general, you will want to make sure that you have it ready for when you are on Psychus, so you can use your cooldowns when Psychus has around 6 stacks, and on the boss burn phases during Phase 1 when you are not assigned to Psychus.
Generally speaking, Ice Block is assigned to soak 2 sets of Harvest Thoughts casts. If you are assigned to do this, simply use Ice Block shortly before the Harvest Thought casts finishes. On some of the Harvest Thought immunity assignments, it will be followed by a Evoke Anguish shortly after. If this is the case on your Ice Block assignment, make sure you stay in Ice Block until the Evoke Anguish has finished casting as well, since if you are in an Ice Block before the casts finishes, you will not get the debuff at all. It is worth noting, you cannot use Greater Invisibility to immune the Harvest Thoughts. Greater Invisibility will allow you to live through the damage, but you will still lose all of your sanity and thus get mind controlled.
A note on Ice Block usage: If you are assigned to use Ice Block during the Harvest Thoughts cast around 8 minutes, make sure you use it slightly early. (so around 8.04, instead of the 8.07 where the cast finishes), so you can use Ice Block again at 12.05 for the Evoke Anguish that goes out at that point.
A good way to optimize DPS around Evoke Anguish is to use Alter Time in a safe spot away from the Anguish assignments, and then use Shimmer to get to your assigned spot, and re-activating Alter Time to get back to your safe spot after the pool of Anguish has dropped.
