Best MoP Remix Leveling Build for Brewmaster Monk

On the whole, your time when leveling a Brewmaster Monk in Mists of Pandaria: Remix will feature the same general build whether you are engaging purely in quest content or are playing exclusively in dungeons and raids. It features all of your traditional defensive tools and an emphasis on gaining mobility early on to better traverse the world. Due to being more leveling-oriented, it will also feature some talents dedicated to convenience, such as the occasional instant-cast Vivify Icon Vivify from Vivacious Vivification Icon Vivacious Vivification in easier content.

As you approach the maximum level of 70 and are looking to potentially move on to some of the harder content available in Mists of Pandaria: Remix, consider shifting to one of the builds located on our main Brewmaster Monk talent page.

Best Gems for Brewmaster Monk in MoP Remix

Gems are one of the unique ways to augment your character in MoP Remix, offering offensive, defensive, and utility benefits. Here, we list the best gems for each type. To learn more about Gems in MoP Remix in general, check out our dedicated page below.

4.1.

Best Meta Gem

  • Thundering Orb Icon Thundering Orb — this is your strongest overall choice, providing massive amounts of AoE damage and even damage reduction during the channel. Be aware that it may frequently draw the attention of enemies you are not currently in combat with as well!

Your best Meta Gem as a Brewmaster Monk will largely depend upon the type of content you are trying out in Mists of Pandaria: Remix. However, as all but one Meta Gem shares the same 3-minute cooldown, they are meant to be fairly competitive with one another in performance. Do not be afraid to experiment with any alternatives that sound exciting to you. In particular, be on the lookout for these other options to try instead:

  • Bulwark of the Black Ox Icon Bulwark of the Black Ox — your time spent channeling this ability will be based on how long its absorb is active. Increase your power with it by using a damage reduction ability beforehand.
  • Oblivion Sphere Icon Oblivion Sphere — although the detonation of this ability has a 4-second delay, its increased damage taken debuff will instantly apply to any enemies within the reticle, making this a valuable ability to set up further damage.
  • Lifestorm Icon Lifestorm — if you are looking to better support your group, this gem's effect offers a handy balance of damage and healing. You also do not need to stand in any of the flowers created by it to gain their bonuses.
4.2.

Best Cogwheel Gem

  • Blink Icon Blink — a Brewmaster Monk has no shortage of mobility, but an extra teleport on a short cooldown is hard to ignore. On top of that, it offers a convenient way to remove stuns and even root effects from yourself!

As cogwheel gems are focused almost entirely on providing mobility effects, they are naturally more useful to classes with limited movement. However, you may also opt for some alternative benefits on a couple of cogwheel gems listed below:

  • Dark Pact Icon Dark Pact — this gem can be used as an additional defensive cooldown that is frequently available. Due to being a tank with higher maximum health, its created shield is truly massive.
  • Heroic Leap Icon Heroic Leap — if you would like to add a small amount of extra damage, this gem may be used to leap into the fray on a very short cooldown.

As a final word of caution, be aware that the Roll Icon Roll Cogwheel Gem acts as a separate version of Roll Icon Roll with one charge on a 15-second cooldown. Using it will require a separate keybind, and it will not benefit from any of your talents as a Monk that normally affect it, such as Chi Torpedo Icon Chi Torpedo.

4.3.

Best Prismatic Gems

Due to Prismatic Gems providing an incredible amount of secondary stats over time as you acquire more prismatic sockets in your leveling, you generally will want to focus on them as you would normally do so on a Brewmaster Monk. Essentially, focus on acquiring "more" stats rather than "better" stats. Only once you have created a large collection of higher-tier gems should you bother to be more picky. With that in mind, listed below is the general priority of prismatic gems of the highest "rank":

  • Perfect Swift Opal Icon Perfect Swift Opal — your main limit in leveling during Mists of Pandaria: Remix will be how quickly you can get from one location to another, even when unable to mount.
  • Perfect Hungering Ruby Icon Perfect Hungering Ruby — many of your gear effects in this mode will be based on performing healing or staying above specific health amounts.
  • Perfect Versatile Diamond Icon Perfect Versatile Diamond
  • Perfect Deadly Sapphire Icon Perfect Deadly Sapphire
4.4.

Best Tinker Gems

The large variety of available Tinker Gems means that it could be some time before you acquire a full suite of options. This, in combination with how many you can equip at once, means that there will be plenty of viable options to use, even if they are not shown on this particular list. Begin to make use of the listed choices as you gain access to them.

  • Memory of Vengeance Icon Memory of Vengeance — this gem replicates an old passive effect on all tank specializations in Mists of Pandaria, granting a buff to your primary stat (Agility) based on how much damage you have recently taken. With this gem, your damage and defenses will soar, provided you can survive a massive initial damage intake from pulling so aggressively with it. Wear this gem at all times when you are doing group content, such as dungeons or raids.
  • Fervor Icon Fervor — as tank specializations come with more maximum health, so too does the damage from this gem increase. With the help of extra healing or leech, you will reliably activate its effect.
  • Slay Icon SlayTouch of Death Icon Touch of Death is already an incredible ability for leveling. With this gem, you are now effectively casting it on every enemy you come across; this is relevant for dungeon and raid enemies in particular. If traditionally questing, you may instead ignore it.
  • Sunstrider's Flourish Icon Sunstrider's Flourish — there is a 1-second cooldown on how often this gem can trigger, but due to the damage being based on the gem itself, your Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind is turned into a much stronger rotational ability with it.
  • Windweaver Icon Windweaver — although it is disguised as a (still strong) utility gem, the Haste buff provided to others should not be ignored. If enough players in your party are also using it, the stat can be ignored for gearing purposes.
  • Brittle Icon Brittle — while it is entirely useless when fighting a single target, this gem's power will ramp up quickly in AoE pulls. Although it will not store the damage from your other gear effects, the increased Agility from Memory of Vengeance Icon Memory of Vengeance will also translate to more damage done by your abilities and more Brittle Icon Brittle damage in turn.

These six Tinker Gems above represent the most important powers available to you when leveling. Once you have obtained them, the following Gems represent smaller, less impactful power spikes or those with more group-based effects.

  • Mark of Arrogance Icon Mark of Arrogance
  • Explosive Barrage Icon Explosive Barrage
  • Wildfire Icon Wildfire
  • Victory Fire Icon Victory Fire
  • Incendiary Terror Icon Incendiary Terror
  • Quick Strike Icon Quick Strike
  • Lightning Rod Icon Lightning Rod
  • Brilliance Icon Brilliance
  • Freedom Icon Freedom
  • Enkindle Icon Enkindle
  • Cold Front Icon Cold Front
  • Frost Armor Icon Frost Armor
  • Bloodthirsty Coral Icon Bloodthirsty Coral
  • Holy Martyr Icon Holy Martyr

Leveling Rotation for Brewmaster Monk

Brewmaster Monks often do not follow a rigid rotation so much as they obey a priority system. This means that when following the list below, you should use the ability that is highest on it and can be used at that moment. In general, this will become a cycle based around the 4-second cooldown of Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick, where you will be thinking of the next three abilities to press after each of its casts. Once you have gained your cooldowns at higher levels, they will be similarly spaced out due to all being on the global cooldown.

As an additional reminder, when using our slider, note that some talents may appear sooner than you expect them to in the rotation. This reflects your ability to select them at an earlier level if you would prefer to, or even defer them until later if you have a more personalized priority in mind.

  1. (Optional): Use Provoke Icon Provoke to force an enemy to run to you or briefly "tag" them with Crackling Jade Lightning Icon Crackling Jade Lightning, provided you immediately cancel its cast afterward.
  2. (Optional): Use Provoke Icon Provoke to force an enemy to run to you (at high speed if Hasty Provocation Icon Hasty Provocation is talented) or briefly "tag" them with Crackling Jade Lightning Icon Crackling Jade Lightning, provided you immediately cancel its cast afterward.
  3. (Optional): Use Provoke Icon Provoke to force an enemy to run to you or briefly "tag" them with Crackling Jade Lightning Icon Crackling Jade Lightning, provided you immediately cancel its cast afterward. If you are using Summon Black Ox Statue Icon Summon Black Ox Statue, place it near multiple enemies to get all of their attention at once.
  4. If talented, use Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind or throw Exploding Keg Icon Exploding Keg before directly engaging your targets. With Special Delivery Icon Special Delivery, you will instead passively deal damage.
  5. (Optional): Use Touch of Death Icon Touch of Death to instantly kill the target if it is usable. Recommended for tougher enemies or for quest bosses.
  6. Cast Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash as your opening ability when entering combat and on cooldown afterward.
  7. Cast Weapons of Order Icon Weapons of Order, if talented to deal additional damage to your targets. Make sure you are standing near your enemies when casting Weapons of Order Icon Weapons of Order with Chi Surge Icon Chi Surge talented to reduce its cooldown.
  8. Cast Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick whenever it is available.
  9. Cast Breath of Fire Icon Breath of Fire on enemies that have been hit by Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash to have them deal less damage to you.
  10. Cast Rising Sun Kick Icon Rising Sun Kick whenever it is available.
  11. Cast Expel Harm Icon Expel Harm as necessary to offset your damage taken.
  12. Refresh your Rushing Jade Wind Icon Rushing Jade Wind, if talented.
  13. Cast Chi Burst Icon Chi Burst, if talented, on cooldown to deal more damage and heal yourself.
  14. Cast Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm as a filler, but do not go below 40 Energy.
  15. Cast Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm as a filler if fighting one target, but do not go below 40 Energy.
  16. Cast Spinning Crane Kick Icon Spinning Crane Kick as a filler time if fighting multiple targets, but do not go below 40 Energy.
  17. Cast Expel Harm Icon Expel Harm if you are in need of healing and to gather your Gift of the Ox Icon Gift of the Ox/Spirit of the Ox Icon Spirit of the Ox spheres.
  18. In an emergency, you may instantly cast Vivify Icon Vivify once every 10 seconds due to Vivacious Vivification Icon Vivacious Vivification. This is largely to be used for convenience during leveling.
6.1.

Active Mitigation

  • Maintain Shuffle Icon Shuffle by continuing to cast Blackout Kick Icon Blackout Kick and Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash on cooldown to smooth out your damage taken.
  • Cast Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew on cooldown, saving one charge for emergencies when actively fighting an enemy and suffering damage from Stagger Icon Stagger. Try to focus on using it right after taking a big hit from an enemy!
  • Cast Celestial Brew Icon Celestial Brew largely on cooldown to temporarily absorb all damage taken. You may hold onto it for short periods of time if you know a large spike of damage is incoming.
  • Yu'lon's Grace Icon Yu'lon's Grace will passively generate a shield that absorbs magic damage while you are in combat.
  • Zen Meditation Icon Zen Meditation is your strongest form of damage reduction, but you cannot move or use another ability while it is channeled. It will also end if you are hit by a melee attack!
  • Dampen Harm Icon Dampen Harm can be used as a powerful defensive cooldown that gives you even more damage reduction against larger hits.
  • Fortifying Brew Icon Fortifying Brew represents your "big" defensive cooldown, giving you extra health and damage reduction while active. Its cooldown may look long, but your Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash and Tiger Palm Icon Tiger Palm casts will reduce it.
