Catalyst Guide for Midnight
The Catalyst is a console used to convert eligible non-set seasonal gear into class set pieces, and older non-set items can also be converted for transmog purposes. Read on to learn more on where to find it, and which items and pieces are worth catalyzing.
What is the Catalyst?
The Catalyst is a console located in Silvermoon City that lets you convert eligible seasonal non-set gear into class set pieces and older gear from previous seasons for transmog. This serves as a bad luck protection, and makes completing set bonuses on multiple characters much easier, without ever having to step foot into a raid!
Midnight Raid Sets
Any item you Catalyze will also gain the appearance of its corresponding tier set item.
For more on the Midnight Season 1 sets, including set bonuses and appearances, check our guide below:
Which Items Can Be Converted Into Class Sets?
The following seasonal non-set items can be converted with the Catalyst:
- PvP Gear (Honor / Conquest / War Mode);
- All PvE Gear of Veteran Rank or higher.
- You can only transform the following items slots into class set pieces: Head, Shoulder, Chest, Hands, Legs. Converting other item slots will still change the item and possibly its stats, but it will not count towards granting the Season 1 Set bonuses.
When Will the Catalyst Become Available?
The Catalyst is available from the beginning of Midnight Season 1, starting on March 17, 2026.
Catalyst Charges
The Catalyst uses charges to convert non-set items into class set pieces.
In Midnight Season 1, the charges are called
Crystallized Dawnlight Manafluxes.
To convert non-set items into class set pieces, you must spend charges. The charges will accrue automatically. You will receive your first charge when a new season begins and an additional charge every two weeks after that; however, Midnight also introduces some new ways to accrue charges, as you will learn below!
How to Earn Catalyst Charges?
You will receive your first charge when a new season begins and additional charges every two weeks.
You can also earn an additional charge once per season by earning the
Midnight Season 1: Champion of the Dawn
achievement by completing one of the following:
- Earning 1,600 Rated PvP rating;
- Earning 2,000 Mythic+ rating;
- Defeating the final boss of the March on Quel'Danas raid, Midnight Falls, on Heroic or Mythic Difficulty.
The achievement will provide you with a
Crystallized Dawnlight Manaflux, granting you +1
Catalyst charge.
Please Note: Due to the staggered release schedule of Midnight's Season 1 raids, obtaining your additional
guaranteed Catalyst charge from the raid will be delayed until March 31 at the earliest, as March on
Quel'Danas is the last raid of the three to release. If rushing your second Catalyst charge is crucial to your
gearing strategy, Mythic+ opens the week before for a chance to push your 2,000 Mythic+ rating. However, rated PvP
is available starting March 17th, making it the earliest possible source of your extra
Crystallized Dawnlight Manaflux.
In Midnight, acquiring a class' 4-piece bonus now unlocks a character-specific Feat of Strength,
Midnight Season 1: Catalyst Unbound, that enables Catalyst charges to drop from regular content:
raid bosses, Mythic+, Bountiful Delves, and Rated PvP, on that character for the remainder
of the season. This change should drastically increase the number of charges available to players,
preventing some of the saving-up of charges that many raiders had to consider throughout the season
in earlier expansions.
Can I Catch Up on Catalyst Charges?
Sadly, there is no catch-up system in place for Catalyst charges. When you log in to the game after a while, you will receive only 1 charge. Therefore, we recommend you to log in to the game with all your max-level alts, even if you do not plan on playing them, so they receive their Catalyst charge, whenever a new one becomes available. However, the added Feat of Strength (mentioned above) will increase the number of charges you accrue as long as you are regularly playing your most important characters, making the lack of catch-up system less impactful.
You can have a maximum of 8 charges on 1 character.
How Does the Catalyst Work?
Interact with the Catalyst by clicking on it until you see the Catalyst window open.
Click the big "+" sign to select an eligible item from the dropdown.
Now, you will see your non-set item on the left and the resulting converted set item on the right. When you are happy with the result, hit the Transform button, and you are done.
Converting Older Gear for Transmog
Older gear from previous seasons can no longer be upgraded. However, it can be converted for transmog using the Catalyst for free.
Catalyst Breakpoints for Midnight Season 1
Depending on the item level of the catalyzed Season 1 gear piece, you will be able to obtain different set appearances from the Season 1 raids. Below are the item level breakpoints:
- Raid Finder Appearance: Item Level 233-243;
- Normal Appearance: Item Level 246-256;
- Heroic Appearance: Item Level 259-269;
