Talent and Essence Cheatsheet
Wrathion, the Black Emperor
We advise you to use the following essences against Wrathion, the Black Emperor.
- Major Slot
- Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection
- Minor Slots
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- Essence of the Focusing Iris — Rank 3: Focused Energy
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
Tips
This is a 2-phase encounter with pure single-target during Phase 1 and a brief intermission with multiple targets and some AoE potential in Phase 2.
Use Demonic Circle and eventually Demonic Gateway to minimize movements, if you are targeted by Incineration. Alternatively place Demonic Gateway to help reach the safe spot during phase 2, for classes/spec with less mobility.
During Phase 2, Rain of Fire will reveal Assassin, impairing their ability to stun a player for 10 seconds.
For more information, please refer to our Wrathion, the Black Emperor guide.
Maut
We advise you to use the following essences against Maut.
Tips
This is yet another 2-phase boss with frequent opportunities to cleave an additional add during Phase 1.
Make use of Demonic Gateway to nullify Dark Manifestation pull, but make sure to not touch existing void zones. Since this add will only lose mana and not health, this is a great fight to have a high uptime of Flashpoint.
Drain Essence can be dispelled with your Imp' Singe Magic, but make sure to not overlap too many AoE explosions, and to be at least 8 yards away from everyone else.
Time cooldowns to get 1 activation per Maut's Obsidian Skin, as it is extremely important to deal as much damage as possible during that phase.
For more information, please refer to our Maut guide.
The Prophet Skitra
We advise you to use the following essences against The Prophet Skitra.
Tips
This is a single-target encounter with periodic add spawns and a fair bit of movement involved.
Make use of Demonic Gateway and Demonic Circle to minimize movements when affected by Shred Psyche.
Images of Absolution are immune to damage for the first 30 seconds and can be stunned with Shadowfury or banished with Banish. They still generate resources if you apply Immolate and will increase the uptime of Flashpoint.
During Phase 2, when the Illusionary Projections appear, feel free to apply your Damage over time spells and Havoc, in order to gain resources and increase your single target damage, but make sure to not accidentally kill the wrong ones to avoid unleashing heavy damage on the whole raid.
For more information, please refer to our The Prophet Skitra guide.
Dark Inquisitor Xanesh
We advise you to use the following essences against Dark Inquisitor Xanesh.
Tips
This is a strict single-target fight in normal and heroic, with lot of movements involved. Mythic difficulty will also spawn adds.
Movement options like Demonic Circle, Burning Rush and Demonic Gateway can help when dealing with both Soul Flay and Void Ritual, however be mindful of your gateway placement as subsequent Ritual Obelisk can still damage players when spawning in between Gateway portals.
Unending Resolve can be used in a pinch to soak Azshara's torment when Voidwoken.
For more information, please refer to our Dark Inquisitor Xanesh guide.
The Hivemind

- Major Slot
- Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection
- Minor Slots
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- Purification Protocol — Rank 3: Purification Protocol
- Blood of the Enemy — Rank 3: Blood-Soaked
Tips
Two targets fight with multiple adds waves during the course of the fight and a second alternating phase where focused damage is paramount instead.
This is a two-target fight with multiple adds waves during the course of the fight and a second alternating phase where focused damage is paramount instead.
During Tek'ris' Hivemind control, the 2 bosses will be stacked and adds waves will spawn. Keep Havoc on cooldown and the bosses Immolated. Both Cataclysm and Fire and Brimstone can net an absurd amount of shards, but if your raid melt adds too quickly it is better to spend shards on Chaos Bolts on bosses and priority damage rather than on Rain of Fire. Pay attention to Echoing Void timer and make sure to be at least 4 yards from anybody in your raid, to avoid unnecessary damage.
During Ka'zir's Hivemind control time your cooldowns around Volatile Eruption, in order to nuke them before the timer expires. Place a Demonic Circle at the edge of the boss room to easily dodge Acidic Aqir.
For more information, please refer to our The Hivemind guide.
Shad'har the Insatiable
We advise you to use the following essences against Shad'har the Insatiable.
Tips
This is a single-target fight split in 3 phases with a fair amount of movements involved.
Place Demonic Circle at the edge of the arena to quickly separate yourself from the rest of the raid when Living Miasma fixates on you.
Due to the nature of the encounter, talenting Demon Skin can mitigate a lot of incoming damage, but Dark Pact has its uses too, when soaking Entropic Buildup, coupled with Unending Resolve to mitigate most of the damage over time.
While you can technically tank 1 hit from Breath and/or Eruptions, it is better to avoid them.
Depending on the strategy used, Demonic Gateway can be used to cross over the damaging water and reach the only other emerged terrain in the
For more information, please refer to our Shad'har the Insatiable guide.
Drest'agath
We advise you to use the following essences against Drest'agath.
Tips
This is an encounter with multiple high HP targets, with the boss being vulnerable only once per minute when debuffed by Void Infused Ichor.
The fight will offer up to 4 targets that will net a constant flow of resources, through Immolate, allowing Destruction to efficiently cleave with Havoc, especially when using Rolling Havoc.
Place Demonic Gateway to help whole raid handle the Mutterings of Insanity mechanic, and remember Imp Singe Magic can dispel the Unleashed Insanity 12 seconds stun.
Make use of Demonic Circle to minimize movements while still avoiding ground targeted damage from various abilities.
When Maw of Drest'agath is up make sure to be at least 4 yards away from everyone else to avoid the splash damage from Acid Splash.
For more information, please refer to our Drest'agath guide.
Vexiona
We advise you to use the following essences against Vexiona.
Tips
This is a single-target fight with frequent cleaving opportunities.
Make use of Demonic Circle to deal with the Encroaching Shadows debuff and minimize movements. Demonic Gateway can be used during the intermission to help the raid dodge Vexiona's deadly breath.
Time Cataclysm for each add wave as the resources generated will be noticeable.
During the last phase, Demonic Circle will be extremely beneficial to handle the Heart of Darkness mechanic, but make sure to have someone nearby when you teleport back, else you will suffer fear and additional void corruption stacks.
For more information, please refer to our Vexiona guide.
Ra-den the Despoiled
We advise you to use the following essences against Ra-den the Despoiled.
- Major Slot
- Memory of Lucid Dreams — Rank 3: Memory of Lucid Dreams + Lucid Dreams
- Minor Slots
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Strive for Perfection
- Breath of the Dying — Rank 3: Lethal Strikes
Tips
This is a 2-phase single-boss fight with periodic priority targets.
Pool resources to burst the desired Essence of choice each time they spawn.
Make use of Demonic Circle to bait the Unstable Vita and minimize movements; Demonic Gateway smart placement can also help the rest of the raid in that situation.
Dark Pact can be talented to help dealing with Unstable Void mechanic, trivializing the incoming damage.
During Phase 2, Demonic Circle can be used to quickly break Charged Bonds.
Burning Rush can be used when affected by Corrupted Existence to avoid reaching max health during the debuff.
For more information, please refer to our Ra-den the Despoiled guide.
Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn
We advise you to use the following essences against Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn.
Tips
This is a single-target boss split in 2 phases with additional enemies spawning periodically that can be used to funnel more priority damage.
Touch of the Corruptor targets can be crowd controlled but it is generally better to avoid fear/horror effect as those might push players in contact with others not mind controlled.
Blood of Ny'alotha from organs can be stunned with Shadowfury.
Singe Magic can be used to dispel both Blood of Ny'alotha Recurring Nightmare damage over time and the Cursed Blood, but try to not trigger too many Cursebreaks at the same time.
For more information, please refer to our Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn guide.
Carapace of N'Zoth
We advise you to use the following essences against Carapace of N'Zoth.
Tips
This is a multi-target fight with 3 different phases.
During Phase 1, save resources to burn the Gaze of Madness when it spawns, and place Demonic Circle in a position where you will not hit anyone if targeted by Madness Bomb. Avoid Tentacles slams and place Demonic Gateway close to Wrathion to help with movements when people use the Extra Action Button.
During Phase 2, Burning Rush will bypass the movement speed reduction from Mycelial Cysts growth, and smart Demonic Circle and Demonic Gateway placement can facilitate navigating through the sides.
In the last phase, keep avoiding Tentacle smashes and spread out if targeted by Insanity Bomb.
For more information, please refer to our Carapace of N'Zoth guide.
N'Zoth the Corruptor
We advise you to use the following essences against N'Zoth the Corruptor.
