Devastation Evoker DPS Easy Mode — The War Within (11.0.7)
On this page, we explain how to easily play Devastation Evoker in World of Warcraft — The War Within (11.0.7), using the simplest rotation, talent tree, stat priority, gear setup, etc., without sacrificing performance.
The Basics of Devastation Evokers in The War Within
This page is intended for players who are new to the game or class, have no intentions of raiding Mythic difficulty or simply want a more straightforward way to play their specialization without being overwhelmed by the numerous subtleties and active abilities that need to be taken into consideration for optimal play.
The Devastation Evoker playstyle is very fluid where you will always be casting something which interacts with your next cast due to various interactions with talents.
You want to cast your Empowered spells ( Fire Breath and
Eternity Surge)
as often as possible, as they are your hardest-hitting spells. Delaying these
could
lead to a significant loss of DPS.
For more information on what each spell does for Devastation Evoker, we have linked the page below, which goes into more detail on this:

This build will be used in single-target situations.

Beginner AoE and Mythic+ Talents for Devastation Evoker
This is our recommended build for AoE scenarios. This works well for AoE fights in raids, as well as most Mythic+.

Beginner Devastation Evoker DPS Rotation
The primary focus for Devastation is split into 3 different rotational aspects. Firstly, your Empower spells; these are short cooldown, high damage abilities that will also give beneficial interactions with your other non-Empowered abilities.
Secondly will be your Essence spenders, which are Disintegrate and
Pyre; you want to ensure that you never overcap your Essence
and let it go to waste.
Thirdly are your "filler" abilities, in the form of Living Flame and
Azure Strike; these abilities cost nothing and will proc free Essence
spenders as well as an assortment of other beneficial effects, depending on
your current talents.
Beyond these 3 core aspects of the class, you will have certain longer cooldown abilities that you will want to use to increase your damage; this list is very limited.
Dragonrage — this is your only substantial damage cooldown, which will give your Mastery (
Mastery: Giantkiller) full effectiveness regardless of the target's current health and will let your filler abilities give you guaranteed free Essence spenders on each cast. The effect of Dragonrage is extended each time you use an Empowered spell.
Deep Breath — this is a long cooldown AoE breath that can be talented to include a Stun. Its damage is much more potent in The War Within, and it becomes a much better part of our core kit.
AoE Rotation for Devastation Evoker
The only real difference is when you focus exclusively on AoE instead of
single target is that you will be max channeling the Empowered spell
Fire Breath, and then replace Living Flame with Azure Strike and
Disintegrate with Pyre.
Defensive Spells for Devastation Evoker
Obsidian Scales is your main defensive, which will reduce all damage
you take by 30%. You can talent into a second charge of this, meaning you can
always have a significant damage reduction for predictable incoming damage
windows.
Renewing Blaze is another strong defensive, which will make all the
damage you take over the next 8 seconds also heal you in the form of a HoT with
the same 8-second duration. This is very potent for long periods of medium-high
damage, as it will keep your health pool high and limit your risk of
dying.
Twin Guardian is a follow-up talent that requires you to take
Rescue to unlock. This will cause you and the target you rescue to
receive a shield for 30% of your max health, lasting 5 seconds upon cast. This
is great for dealing with those one-shot mechanics or when someone else needs a
helping hand.
Zephyr will give you and 4 nearby allies a 20% damage reduction from
AoE abilities for a short duration. This can be situationally amazing,
particularly in Mythic+.
These are the defensive utility talents and abilities for Devastation Evoker, for more details, we recommend you check out the Spell Glossary page below.

Stat Choice for Devastation Evokers
The general stat priority for a Devastation Evoker is seen below. This is very much a rough guideline and is designed for players who do not wish to sim their character. If you are simming your character, please disregard this stat priority completely and follow your sim!
Currently, item level is by far the most important aspect of gearing. Following that, Critical Strike is your highest value stat, followed by Haste and Versatility. If at all possible, you would want to prioritize your stats like this:
- Item Level;
- Critical Strike;
- Haste;
- Versatility;
- Mastery.
On Jewelry (and pieces without Intellect on them), the priority is as follows:
- Critical Strike;
- Item Level;
- Haste;
- Versatility;
- Mastery.
The stats page will go into more detail on exactly what exactly each stat does for us Devastation Evokers.
Basic Rotation opener for Devastation Evokers
The priority system for Devastation Evoker is not very complicated
as a whole, the majority of your time casting will be spent channeling
Disintegrate and using an assortment of abilities off cooldown
then filling in with
Living Flame where needed.
- Pre cast
Living Flame.
- Cast
Dragonrage
- Cast
Eternity Surge at rank 1.
- Cast
Fire Breath at rank 1.
- Cast
Deep Breath.
- Cast
Disintegrate x2.
- Cast
Shattering Star.
- Cast
Disintegrate until you run out of Essence.
- Cast If you run out of Essence and none of the previously listed abilities are ready to be used, cast
Living Flame.
A very simple and effective way to ensure you are doing things almost perfectly with very little afterthought, is to be sending Eternity Surge/
Deep Breath/
Fire Breath/
Shattering Star
off cooldown, this will end up being correct in nearly every situation.
You can go to the rotation page to find out more about the rotation and how it changes at different target counts and with different talents here.
