Discipline Priest Healing Uldir Raid Guide — Dragonflight 10.2.5
On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Discipline Priest for each boss of the following raid: Uldir. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — Dragonflight 10.2.5.
Discipline Priest Boss Advice: Uldir, Halls of Control
In this section, you will find information pertaining to each boss individually in the Uldir raid. It is recommended that you follow the standard talent build found in the Builds, Talents, and Glyphs section of the guide unless otherwise advised, on a per-boss basis. As this is an upcoming raid, the current information is based on beta testing and theorycrafting using Warcraft Logs and will be updated over time. As each boss is hardest on its Mythic difficulty mode, we will first explain the healing strategy for Mythic, followed by a short explanation on what changes in this strategy, if anything, for Heroic.

Taloc

In Mythic, this boss has a very spiky damage pattern due to
Cudgel of Gore and
Hardened Arteries. When playing with
the suggested talent build, use
Power Word: Shield,
Shadowfiend, double
Power Word: Radiance and
Evangelism immediately before one
of these abilities hits the raid, then follow it up with
Schism as
the damage hits, as well as
Power Word: Solace,
Penance,
and
Halo, with
Smite as a filler. By
the time your
Atonements fall off, the raid should be topped off
again, or close to, allowing you to focus on dealing damage to the boss / using
single-target heals until the next
Cudgel of Gore and
Hardened Arteries casts. It is important to keep Atonement on those
in the raid carrying
Plasma Discharge, as they are the most at risk
of dying.
Alternatively, it is worth mentioning that using Luminous Barrier
on this encounter may provide a better cooldown than running
Evangelism. The intermission during this encounter does not require
a cooldown, making Evangelism either unused, or used on a low damage part of
the encounter. In addition to this, the people in danger during this fight are
those who are carrying
Plasma Discharge away from the group and
cannot stand inside
Power Word: Barrier when
Cudgel of Gore
occurs. Luminous Barrier allows you to provide an absorb to those who are most
in danger, while still providing a cooldown for your raid. Running Luminous
Barrier also syncs well with
Rapture to handle all of the Cudgel of
Gore occurances. You can Rapture the first, Luminous Barrier the second, Rapture
again on the third and Luminous Barrier will be back up for the first Cudgel
of Gore in the second phase, after the intermission. This process would repeat until
the boss is dead.
In Heroic, while the damage intake is still spiky, the intervals between
these spikes are larger, since Cudgel of Gore is the only raid damage
you need to worry about.

Similar to Taloc, this boss has a very spiky damage pattern, dictated by
players passing through Defense Grid, and you should aim to use the
Taloc pre-damage strategy when players are about to go through. While it is
likely possible that you can have a huge amount of players going through at
once while using all raid cooldowns, the most likely scenario in Mythic is that
you will be sending small teams every ~20 seconds, because of dangerous adds
that spawn when players go through. As a Discipline Priest, you will want to
keep a close eye on the spawned add. If they are not interrupted, they will cast
Clinging Corruption and the raid will require additional healing.
In Heroic, damage is lower and the spawned adds are much less dangerous than the Mythic ones, allowing more people to pass through at each time. In case your guild's strategy involves using multiple raid cooldowns while a lot of people go through, you will want to consider saving your cooldowns for those windows.

In Mythic, we will need to handle Malodorous Miasma /
Putrid Paroxysm
spreading to nearby people whenever they tick, which forces a heavy spread on
the raid at all times. Given your raid spreads properly, you will just need to
focus healing on targets with the debuff, who will be taking large amounts of
damage. It is recommended to maintain Atonement on those players and weave in
damage. Because of the single target healing required, using
Penance
defensively more than normal is a definite option.
In Heroic Malodorous Miasma /
Putrid Paroxysm do not
spread, making positioning requirements much more relaxed.

Most of the incoming unavoidable damage in this fight will come from
Surging Darkness, which hits the raid over a prolonged period
of time and requires you to heal while moving. To handle healing this ability,
you will want to ensure you use
Rapture as needed, or apply
Atonements with
Power Word: Radiance, followed up by
Penance and
Power Word: Solace while on the run. Due to
Eye Beam and
Roiling Deceit (which, if not handled
correctly, will cause a lot of raid damage through
Shadow Nova), the probability of unexpected near-lethal damage
is high. Keeping cooldowns at the ready is important to help the raid recover.
Also, in the last phase, we are a decent choice for the
Corruptor's Pact buff, as we can unload what cooldowns we have
available before being mind-controlled. Despite this, other healers may be
better fit for this buff, as Discipline is gated by Power Word: Radiance having
a recharge time, thus limiting our ability to convert mana into healing.
In Heroic, Eye Beam /
Roiling Deceit are never
active at the same time and are disabled upon entering a certain boss health
threshold. This makes the fight much easier, but does not change our overall
healing strategy.
Vectis

This fight is all about controlling stacks of
Lingering Infection. As time goes by, these will grow and make
casts of
Contagion more deadly, especially as it is likely the
raid will be affected by
Immunosuppression at the same time. As
Contagion is cast about every 20 seconds, this is a great fight for Discipline,
as it lines up well with the
Power Word: Radiance recharge of 20
seconds, meaning you can line up one Power Word: Radiance per Contagion cast.
In Heroic, Lingering Infection does not have the extra
effects that cause the encounter to snowball out of control after players hit 6
stacks and above, thus allowing for a more relaxed positioning and control of
the stacks.
Zul, Reborn

Other than Dark Revelation bursts, damage starts low and ramps up
throughout this encounter. Be aware that damage will heavily ramp up post 40%
boss health, due to
Locus of Corruption applying a lot of
Corrupted Blood stacks to everyone in the raid.
Erupting Darkness can also cause massive, unexpected raid
damage. Due to this, it is important to keep in mind that
Absorbed in Darkness soakers and players
with
Unleashed Shadow will require heavy single target healing as
well throughout all the fight. Maintain
Atonement on them to provide
healing and be ready to defensively
Penance those players as
needed.
In Heroic you only need to deal with Corrupted Blood after the
boss hits 40% health and there is only one
Dark Revelation to deal
with every minute, instead of the two in Mythic. This vastly reduces the
healing requirements of the encounter and allows you to save most of your Mana
for the end of the encounter.
Mythrax the Unraveler

During this encounter, the raid is spread out at least 5 yards from each
other due to Oblivion Sphere, meaning
Power Word: Radiance
should still have a decent effectiveness. Players will have their maximum health
reduced by
Annihilation, which gives us less time to heal before
deaths occur. This being said, there will be spikes of raid damage happening
regularly from
Imminent Ruin and
Crashing Oblivion that
we can help heal efficiently with our cooldown spells, as explained on Taloc.
In Heroic, the dangerous healing mechanics are mostly the same as Mythic, and thus the same strategy should be used.
G'huun

Most of the damage taken in this fight comes from
Reorigination Blast,
Putrid Blood and
Explosive Corruption. While the healing gets much more intense
towards the end, when you can no longer remove Putrid Blood stacks with
Blood Feast, this is a very long, intense fight, that will strain
your Mana to the limit and require excellent cooldown management.
In Heroic, Explosive Corruption is much less threatening, but you
still need to contend with the other damage sources, which can be handled with
the same strategy as Mythic.
