Gearing an Elemental Shaman
Welcome to our Gearing Page for Elemental Shaman. This section will cover everything you need to know about equipping your character correctly.
If you have a new piece of gear for which you need gems and enchant advice, you can find everything on our dedicated page below.
The Importance of "Simming Yourself"
At this stage in the game, there are so many variables and layers of optimization that you can apply to your character that there is no way for a guide or anything else to tell you exactly what gear you should wear. This is why we always recommend simulating your own character using Raidbots. The website can help you choose set bonuses, trinkets, and combinations in a way tailored completely to your specific character. Learning to use this tool is essential to maximizing your potential, as there is simply no other way to consider all the variables.
Evaluating Upgrades
The easiest way, and also the method we suggest, to compare multiple items is to use Raidbots' Top Gear. Here, you can input an export from the Simcraft AddOn, select the items to compare, and it will find out which of the items are best.
Stats
Many people overthink the distribution of their secondary stats. An important thing to remember is that a higher quantity of stats is nearly always better than a better quality of stats. Because of this, wearing higher item-level gear with worse stats tends to be better than lower item-level gear with great stats. Keep this in mind when considering gear. For more stats information, please refer to our dedicated page.
Disclaimer Regarding BiS Lists
We only provide "Best in Slot" lists as a mandatory requirement stemming from certain guilds and players thinking they absolutely need to mindlessly chase that one item in that one slot and nothing else will do. Sometimes, raid leaders enforce a very strict "BiS list" for loot council without any nuance; other times, it is players themselves enforcing it on themselves.

Mythic+ only BiS List for Elemental Shaman
This list contains ONLY items available in Mythic+ dungeons in Season 3.
The main focus of this list is targetting Haste and Mastery pieces. It is not meant as an "equip all these items together" list. You still need to get some Versatility and a little Critical Strike after that.

Static Best in Slot lists are only an indicative tool in a vacuum; we recommend using the following tools: Raidbots Top Gear and its Droptimizer options.
Reshii Wraps for Elemental Shaman
The new Reshii Wraps cloak introduced in Patch 11.2 is a
new Artifact obtained through the campaign and upgraded regularly.
You should try to upgrade it whenever you can and use whichever secondary stat you
lack, having Mastery by default is reasonable.
Note the special boots Interloper's Chain Boots are particularly excellent
for us, and that
Band of the Shattered Soul is very good as well.
For more information on how to acquire or upgrade the belt, make sure to check out our dedicated guide!
Tier Set for Elemental Shaman
The 11.2 Elemental Tier Set bonuses are all desirable and none are dramatically
overpowered. You will almost certainly use only Farseer for raid content,
and
Stormbringer for most Mythic+ situations. Note that these should
not change rotational priorities or talent choice significantly for single-target,
other than us likely dropping
Primal Elementalist for
Liquid Magma Totem
with 4p. For Mythic+, we are likely to end up dropping all the elemental pet
synergy talents and path to
Splintered Elements with them once 4p is acquired.
Farseer Set Bonus
Shaman Farseer 11.2 Class Set 2pc
Shaman Farseer 11.2 Class Set 4pc
Farseer 2-piece:
Ancestral Swiftness summons an empowered
Ancestor for 15 sec that deals 10% increased damage and healing.
This is an extra Ancestor, in addition to the regular one already generated by
Ancestral Swiftness. The extra "empowered" Ancestor behaves exactly
like a regular Ancestor in every way, except that
Ancient Fellowship procs
will spawn a regular Ancestor.
This is a strong 2p significantly enhancing our damage 50% of the time. You do not really need to track this, simply play as normal. This makes it more desirable to potentially hold onto Ancestral Swiftness for a few seconds if important priority targets are about to show up.
Farseer 4-piece:
Ancestral Swiftness increases the damage and
healing of your spells by 25%, reduces the mana cost of your spells by 25% and
increases the recharge rate of
Lava Burst by 50% for 8 sec. You are likely
to be dropping
Primal Elementalist and
Echo of the Elementals.
The only important part here is the first one. This makes your Ancestral Swiftness
"window" even more powerful and those 8 seconds may be worth tracking in order to
try and maximize this damage window with all your hardest hitting spells before it
fades, similarly to how the last few seconds of Ascendance are played.
The mana cost reduction does essentially nothing, and the Lava Burst recharge rate
is much weaker than it reads, it gives you on average fewer than 2 extra Lava Bursts per minute.
Stormbringer Set Bonus
Shaman Stormbringer 11.2 Class Set 2pc
Shaman Stormbringer 11.2 Class Set 4pc
Stormbringer 2-piece:
Ascendance has a 100% chance
to grant a charge of
Tempest and every 9
Awakening Storms now
activates Ascendance for 6 sec.
Note that both Deeply Rooted Elements and
Shaman Stormbringer 11.2 Class Set 2pc
procs will grant the
Tempest charge, but will not grant the Tempest if
Ascendance is already active. The Ascendance proc functions
exactly like a Deeply Rooted Elements proc otherwise. Unfortunately, you will
likely want a new WeakAura to track your
Awakening Storms procs in order
to know when your next one will proc Ascendance. This bonus also has the benefit
of giving a nice reliable boost to your burst by giving you
Tempest
immediately when you press Ascendance.
Stormbringer 4-piece: Nature damage increased by 3%, and
Ascendance
empowers your next 2
Tempest to gather a storm above that deals 1.6 million
Nature damage to its primary target and reduced damage to nearby enemies after 1.5 sec.
Like the 2p bonus, Deeply Rooted Elements procs also give you this effect
unless you were already in
Ascendance form.
This is a strong multi-target bonus, additional targets receiving approximately
70% of the original damage. This special effect lasts 30 seconds and can stack multiple
times.
The Durable Information Securing Container Belt for Elemental Shaman
The Durable Information Securing Container belt introduced in Patch 11.1.7 functions as Season 2's
Cyrce's Circlet
equivalent, both mechanically and role-wise. It is obtained through Delves.
It has gradually scaling item level (up to 701) and modular special abilities, except instead of having to carry and swap out gems, you can simply "use" the item to change which of its abilities you want to use.
You will likely replace this belt with a good Hero track or any Mythic track belt.
We recommend using:
Static Charge or whichever secondary stat bonus sims the best for you for all content.
Best Trinkets for Elemental Shaman in The War Within Season 3
Raiding Trinket Tier List for Elemental Shaman
This Trinket Tier List is single-target biased, as this tends to be the most important aspect of Raiding. When Trinkets are equal on single-target, I will "break the tie" by looking into which Trinket performs better in AoE/mixed scenarios.
S-Tier
Araz's Ritual Forge — is our strongest, most desirable trinket this tier. It synergizes well with our
Ascendance burst, especially for
Farseer and even more so once you have
Shaman Farseer 11.2 Class Set 4pc. The cooldown is unfortunate but may make
First Ascendant more desirable.
Diamantine Voidcore WITH SET— When using a Voidglass weapon, this trinket is incredible. The damage is not actually anything crazy, and some trinkets will do slightly more especially outside of pure single-target. However, it boosts the voidglass shields which are already strong to new heights, giving you around 50% uptime on several million Health worth of shield (over 5 in Mythic item level) that refreshes regularly. Absolute must have combo in our opinion unless damage taken is somehow irrelevant.
Azhiccaran Parapodia — is a generally superior
Ara-Kara Sacbrood, and our best proc trinket, though it has the unfortunate issue of being more delayed than most, meaning there is a significant chance you get little benefit from it on pull, but it is overbudget otherwise.
A+-Tier
Astral Antenna — Strong trinket overall but you have to deal with the screen clutter purple ball (and you see the balls of whoever else also uses the trinket!) chasing you and if you have to move around enough you may lose procs altogether.
Lily of the Eternal Weave — This is just
House of Cards. Very strong but you may want to build less Mastery if you have it.
So'leah's Secret Technique — This is functionally a stat stick where you need to find someone who has the secondary you want and give him a small boost. It is generally strong since in raid you will always find someone with the secondary you want.
Ara-Kara Sacbrood — The king is back, except it is not the king any more, as it is generally a little worse than
Azhiccaran Parapodia but it remains a strong alternative.
Empowering Crystal of Anub'ikkaj — This solid trinket is back, though we generally have stronger alternatives available.
A-Tier
Signet of the Priory — Is like
Lily of the Eternal Weave but with a slightly longer effect and cooldown, which is generally worse unless you use
First Ascendant, in which case it is likely better.
Gigazap's Zap-Cap — Remains strong on two targets and weak in other scenarios.
B-Tier
Diamantine Voidcore WITHOUT SET — Without the set bonus, this trinket is just okay at best.
Perfidious Projector — Does a LOT of immediate damage, but after that is just a Haste stick for 2 minutes. Maybe there will be a niche for it, and it is nice for solo play, but the numbers are not there for long single-target fights.
House of Cards — even at a lower item level is still strong, but with the Season 3 nerf you will most likely replace it fairly quickly.
Sunblood Amethyst — Is much like
Perfidious Projector except its damage does not scale up with more targets, but the Intellect proc makes it vastly superior in pure single-target. However, you need to stand in a tiny, 5 yards circle that is often hard to see for 15 seconds, which is extremely problematic. If it is not a problem (say, for farm or if you know you can stand still when using it), then the trinket goes up a tier or possibly two.
Miniscule Mailemental in an Envelope — The numbers are simply nowhere near enough.
Naazindhri's Mystic Lash — The numbers are simply nowhere near enough.
Depleted K'areshi Battery — The numbers are simply nowhere near enough.
Soulbreaker's Sigil — Is simply too weak to choose unless you have little else
Essence-Hunter's Eyeglass — Slow-stacking Critical Strike is bad and you rely on luck to keep all your stacks up, as this one trinket for some reason refreshes each stack's duration with each proc.
C-Tier
Automatic Footbomb Dispenser — Has a fairly easy to use special effect but the damage seems to be less than advertised. It comes with a lot of guaranteed speed giving 10% movement speed on top of a potential regular tertiary roll, which is nice but it simply does not do enough damage in single-target.
Void-Touched Fragment — Not good if you are not killing adds very regularly.
Incorporeal Essence-Gorger — Low damage on a long cooldown, will give you Critical Strike unless you are fighting an Ethereal, which is bad.
Mythic+ Trinket Tier List for Elemental Shaman
This Trinket Tier List is AoE-biased for Mythic+, as this tends to be the most important aspect of Mythic+.
S-Tier
Araz's Ritual Forge — is our strongest, most desirable trinket this tier. It synergizes well with our
Ascendance burst, especially for
Farseer and even more so once you have

However, it boosts the voidglass shields which are already strong to new heights, giving you around 50% uptime on several million Health worth of shield (over 5 in Mythic item level) that refreshes regularly. Automatic Footbomb Dispenser — Has a fairly easy to use special effect but the damage seems to be less than advertised. It comes with a lot of guaranteed speed giving 10% movement speed on top of a potential regular tertiary roll.
Void-Touched Fragment — Depending on how many enemies you are killing, this could be decent but there is a lot of rng involved with the timing of the proc, making it quite awkward in practice.
Incorporeal Essence-Gorger — Low damage on a long cooldown.
Perfidious Projector — Does a LOT of immediate damage, but after that is just a Haste stick for 2 minutes. Maybe there will be a niche for it, and it is nice for solo play, but the numbers are not there unless you absolutely need to INSTANTLY kill some low Health targets.
Soulbreaker's Sigil — Is simply too weak to choose unless you have no alternative.
The Great Vault
This weekly loot system remains much the same. You can select ONE item out of a maximum pool of 9, depending on how many raid bosses you defeated, your Dungeon clears and how many Delves and Weekly World Quest you accomplished in the previous week.
You can learn more about this system on our dedicated Great Vault page.
Best Gear Crest Upgrades for Elemental Shaman
You will be able to upgrade your items via Crests such as
Gilded Undermine Crest. Once you have upgraded a slot to a certain item
level, upgrading other items of that slot to that item level is free.
When you upgrade with Crests, you should think of it as upgrading slots and not items.
Additionally, since Crests are a limited resource, you will want to obtain the highest item-level possible before upgrading a given slot, as this means you will spend fewer Crests on that slot in total. If you are at all capable of doing a +9 Dungeon, for example, it would be a VERY bad idea to upgrade an item from a +8 Dungeon, as those are wasted Crests you may not get back for a very long time.
We see a ton of players, even at a high level, mess up their upgrade priorities, and upgrading prematurely. Getting this right will put you far ahead of most players.
Below is the slot priority you should upgrade your items in. If you ever want to deviate from this, you should have a very good reason.
- Weapons
- Trinkets
- Helm/Chest/Legs
- Shoulders/Gloves/Belt/Boots
- Rings and Necks
- Cloaks and Bracers
Note that exceptions are possible, such as special items that have more Item Level scaling than their slot would imply.
Best Items to Upgrade for Elemental Shaman in The War Within
Unsurprisingly, you should sim your character to determine which upgrades give the most bang for your buck at any point in time. Beyond that, you generally want to maximize your weapon (and offhand), then your jewelry, and after that it is generally best to upgrade the armor slots that give the most stats: First Chest, Helm or Pants, then Gloves, Shoulders, Boots and Belt.
What to Craft as an Elemental Shaman in The War Within?
What you want to craft not only heavily depends on loot/vault RNG, but also on your progression level and whether you want immediate power to blast now, or want to maximize the medium/long term effectiveness of your character. In all likelihood, you will not fail to clear a raid encounter on week 1 or 2 just because you're missing a little potential DPS on your character, you will do so because of mechanical errors.
Our generic recommendation is not going to please most people, but aims to reach
the best middle-ground between getting power reasonably early and not regretting your
choice due to later loot/vault. As long as you do not have a Mythic track weapon,
wait for your 2nd Spark of Starlight before crafting and:
- If you have a Mythic track one-handed weapon (ideally
Voidglass Kris), craft a
Vagabond's Torch with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension and
Glyph-Etched Vambraces with
Writhing Armor Banding.
- If you have a Mythic track two-handed (ideally
Voidglass Spire) by now but no one-handed weapon, craft
Glyph-Etched Vambraces and either or
Glyph-Etched Binding or
Glyph-Etched Stompers (if you do not think you will get
Interloper's Chain Boots and already have a good belt) with
Duskthread Lining.
- If you did not get a Mythic track weapon from Vault or the raid, craft a
Vagabond's Bounding Baton with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension.
There are alternative possibilities:
- If you want to not have to think about it and craft something you know you will
keep forever, you can immediately craft
Glyph-Etched Vambraces with
Duskthread Lining and recraft it later to
Writhing Armor Banding if you get a good one-handed weapon and then craft
Vagabond's Torch with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension.
- You can also get much more power immediately by crafting the offhand right now, but you
are gambling on the fact you will get a good one-handed weapon, and may be extremely
sad when you get a Mythic staff (especially
Voidglass Spire) in Vault.
- You can get a lot of power right now by crafting an
Everforged Dagger with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension, and craft
Glyph-Etched Vambraces with
Writhing Armor Banding immediately as you get your second Spark. This means you give up on Voidglass weapons entirely, and seeing weapons in your Vault will make you sad. This is a reasonable choice if you are focused on Mythic+ and really want to go push key levels immediately.
Best Embellishments for Elemental Shaman
Embellishments are significantly weaker in The War Within compared to Dragonflight. As long as you get "something", it makes only a small difference what embellishment you get.
Our current generic recommendation is Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension
on your offhand as well as a
Writhing Armor Banding
to complement it, typically
Glyph-Etched Vambraces.
Note that Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension takes a long time
to stack and drops entirely if you spend more than a few seconds out of combat.
Alternatively you may want to get a couple of Duskthread Lining.
No other embellishment competes with these, though if you really have to craft
Jewelry, you can settle for an Elemental Focusing Lens.
Best Weapons for Elemental Shaman
Soulbinder Naazindhri drops Voidglass Spire and Fractillus
drops
Voidglass Kris. You will ideally want either of those, with
Voidglass Kris
being best in slot by a notable margin, because it allows you to use
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension
on a crafted offhand.
Nothing really competes with these, but people wanting an early power boost while
waiting for them may just craft a Vagabond's Bounding Baton with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension.
Best Jewelry for Elemental Shaman
The new Band of the Shattered Soul is a very rare item from Dimensius The All Devouring.
It does not have ideal secondaries but is good enough that its special effect makes it
worth using over anything else for the last 2 fights of the raid due to the presence
of significant Cosmic damage. That being said, it is just a nice bonus and you are
perfectly fine using anything else.
Best Professions for Elemental Shaman
While professions do not generally give player power, there are possible exceptions in some circumstances. Suppose you want to min/max your player power in all possible situations. In that case, you should be an Alchemist and an Engineer. Note that the actual uses of their unique bonuses are highly conditional and, for the most part, should not dictate your profession choice.
