Unlocking the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwolf Mines
In this section, we are going to tell you how to unlock the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwolf Mines, Level 1, 2, and 3.
Unlocking the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwolf Mines, Level 1
The mine appears when you upgrade your Town Hall to Level 2. It is locked at first and you must complete a Level 92 quest to unlock it. The quest is given to you at the mine: Things Are Not Goren Our Way (Alliance) or Things Are Not Goren Our Way (Horde). It requires you to clear the Gorens from the mine and kill Stonetooth, their leader.
Unlocking the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwolf Mines, Level 2
To upgrade the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwolf Mines to Level 2, buy the Garrison Blueprint: Lunarfall Excavation, Level 2 (Alliance) or Garrison Blueprint: Frostwall Mines, Level 2 from Sparz Boltwist (Alliance) or Rezlak (Horde). Both NPCs are located next to the Architect Table in your Garrison's Town Hall. The blueprint costs 1,000 .
Unlocking the Lunarfall Excavation / Frostwolf Mines, Level 3
To upgrade the mine to Level 3, you need to loot 500 Draenic Stones from your mine in order to earn the Draenic Stone Collector achievement. Miners can also loot these stones when mining ore in Draenor.
Mining Ore and Carts
The ore nodes in your mine can be mined without having Mining as a profession. Each of them contain either Blackrock Ore or True Iron Ore, a few Draenic Stones, and sometimes a few Primal Spirits. The nodes respawn every day (at the time when the daily quests are reset). The size of your mine increases as you upgrade it, so you have a lot more nodes in a Level 3 mine than you do in a Level 1 mine.
To give you an idea, a Level 1 mine can provide you with 15-20 Blackrock Ore, True Iron Ore, and Draenic Stones a day. A Level 3 mine with a follower can provide you with 150x Blackrock Ore, 150x True Iron Ore, and 50x Draenic Stones.
Mining carts start spawning when you upgrade your mine to Level 2. Each cart can be looted for extra Blackrock Ore or True Iron Ore. These carts can also contain Miner's Coffee, which increases your running speed in your mine, Preserved Mining Pick, which increases your mining speed in your mine, Primal Spirits, and Draenor Archeology fragments. A Level 2 mine can spawn about 5 carts.
A Goren sometimes spawns when you attempt to open a node in your mine. Killing it gives you about 15 of the ore you were trying to gather.
Work Orders
Starting a Work Order costs 5x Draenic Stones, takes 4 hours to complete, and rewards you with 5 of a ore. You will sometimes get a few Apexis Crystals as well.
At Level 1, you can only queue 7 Work Orders. At Level 2, this number increases to 14 and at Level 3 to 21. Having a Storehouse Level 3 further increases the number of Work Orders you can place by 15.
Assigning a follower with the Mining trait to your mine increases the yield of the Work Orders. A Level 100 follower gives you 7 ores per Work Order.
