Talent and Essence Cheatsheet
Wrathion, the Black Emperor
We advise you to use the following essences against Wrathion, the Black Emperor.
- Major Slot
- The Crucible of Flame — Rank 3: Concentrated Flame + Ancient Flame
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Wrathion is a standard dragon, with both Tail Swipe and Searing Breath, which you will need to face away from the raid and avoid them getting hit by the tail.
His tank debuff is Searing Armor; taunt swap when your debuff falls off.
For more information, please refer to our Wrathion, the Black Emperor guide.
Maut
We advise you to use the following essences against Maut.
- Major Slot
- The Crucible of Flame — Rank 3: Concentrated Flame + Ancient Flame
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Tank the Dark Manifestation adds 20 yards away from the boss, so he does not absorb their Mana.
Drag the Dark Manifestation adds into the Void zones to stop them from casting Dark Offering.
Generally, 1 tank solo tanks the boss and 1 tank handles the adds.
For more information, please refer to our Maut guide.
The Prophet Skitra
We advise you to use the following essences against The Prophet Skitra.
- Major Slot
- The Crucible of Flame — Rank 3: Concentrated Flame + Ancient Flame
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Tanks should swap when their stacks of Shadow Shock fall off, at around 4-6 stacks.
Mass Entanglement can help create gaps in the room for your team to dodge together.
This fight only has magic damage, so armor does not have any value.
For more information, please refer to our The Prophet Skitra guide.
Dark Inquisitor Xanesh
We advise you to use the following essences against Dark Inquisitor Xanesh.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Wild Charge is great value on this fight, due to the tank mechanic Abyssal Strike having a small knockback aspect.
Position the boss in a safe area, so your raid members can safely stand in Void Ritual, which spawns circles around the boss to soak.
Stampeding Roar is very useful to help speed your raid to the safe areas around the room during the dance phase of Torment.
For more information, please refer to our Dark Inquisitor Xanesh guide.
The Hivemind
We advise you to use the following essences against The Hivemind.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Tanks have to stack and separate the bosses based on their phases.
The Aqir Drones do not have a threat table, just stack them and AoE.
With Balance Affinity, it is possible to continue to hit both bosses, even while they are in their separated phase.
For more information, please refer to our The Hivemind guide.
Shad'har the Insatiable
We advise you to use the following essences against Shad'har the Insatiable.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
This boss casts 2 tanks mechanics, Crush and Dissolve. Taking both of these debuffs will be painful, so have one tank take the crushes, the other tank take dissolves.
The boss will enrage at 33% HP, so try to have some cooldowns saved.
For more information, please refer to our Shad'har the Insatiable guide.
Drest'agath
We advise you to use the following essences against Drest'agath.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Stay in melee range of the boss or he will grip people into him and smack them.
Run your debuff out to the appendages, to make them take increased damage.
For more information, please refer to our Drest'agath guide.
Vexiona
We advise you to use the following essences against Vexiona.
- Major Slot
- Worldvein Resonance — Rank 3: Worldvein Resonance + Lifeblood
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Quickly pick up adds to avoid them meleeing any raid members.
When tanking either the boss or the Void Ascendant, face them away from the raid, as they both have breath mechanics.
Be high health when Shattered Resolve is expiring.
For more information, please refer to our Vexiona guide.
Ra-den the Despoiled
We advise you to use the following essences against Ra-den the Despoiled.
- Major Slot
- The Crucible of Flame — Rank 3: Concentrated Flame + Ancient Flame
- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
In Phase 1, taunt swap when the add spawns or at 1 stack of Nullifying Strike.
This is an interesting tank fight as the main tank mechanic, Decaying Strike, leaves a Decaying Wound. This means you will want to aim to be as low as possible without dying to negate the most damage.
For more information, please refer to our Ra-den the Despoiled guide.

- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier

Tips
Taunt swap the Fury of N'Zoth after he casts Mandible Slam, usually at 2-3 stacks, depending on phase.
Move away from the raid with any Bomb debuffs you get.
In Phase 2, Druids can shapeshift the slowing puddles on the ground to walk around freely and better position yourself to hit the growth adds on the walls.
For more information, please refer to our Carapace of N'Zoth guide.

- Minor Slots
- Nullification Dynamo — Rank 3: Null Barrier
- Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife
- The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence
Tips
Pick up Psychus and drag him around the room killing tentacles, make sure they die while he is standing on them to give him the debuff.
Taunt swap the Thought Harvesters after they cast Mindwrack.
Druids can use Typhoon to know back the small Psychophage adds to avoid the nasty Sanity draining puddle they drop shortly after dying.

This guide has been written by Pumps who has played since Vanilla and has tanked in Honestly, the #1 Oceanic raiding guild, since Mists of Pandaria. He also played in the first MDI Mythic+ Dungeon Tournament, where his team placed second. His mindset on tanking has always been taking the utility and damage one can bring to the raid to the next level. He was the #1 Rank DPS Guardian Druid for 5 tiers in a row and top the 1-6 for the last 12 tiers, playing Guardian Druid, Brewmaster Monk and Protection Warrior mainly based on what is the strongest for progression at the time.
