Hand of Nilganihmaht Guide: How to Acquire this Secret Mount in Shadowlands 9.1
Nilganihmaht Control Ring
This is one of the more secret and complex mounts to unlock in Patch 9.1. You need to collect 5 rings: Nilganihmaht's Stone Ring, Nilganihmaht's Runed Band, Nilganihmaht's Gold Band, Nilganihmaht's Silver Ring, and Nilganihmaht's Signet Ring. Obtaining all 5 rings might take a while due to some of them being doable only at certain times making this also one of the more time-consuming mounts to get. After collecting all five of the rings you will have access to the mount.
"Of all the giants who dared defy the Jailer, Nilganihmaht was the most arrogant. For this transgression, the giant's severed hand was hidden within a veil of torments, and the rings that could summon it back were scattered across the Maw."
The Rift
You will need access to the Rift phase of The Maw in various points of this journey to acquiring the Nilganihmaht Control Ring. To enter the Rift phase you have multiple options:
- Unbalanced Riftstone — available during Night Fae Assault from the quest A Shady Place
- Repaired Riftkey — purchased from Archivist Roh-Suir; requires Tier 4 with The Archivists' Codex or random drop from Korthia Treasures and Rares.
- Collapsing Riftstone — random drop from Rares or Treasures.
The Rift Portals in Korthia are a random spawn so you need to go and see which of the following are up.
- Rift Portal 1 — /way 41.11, 42.15
- Rift Portal 2 — /way 53.71, 71.77
- Rift Portal 3 — /way 61.81, 44.6
- Rift Portal 4 — /way 56.81, 74.62
- Rift Portal 5 — /way 59.41, 53.70
- Rift Portal 6 — /way 43.50, 46.82
When using a Repaired Riftkey or Collapsing Riftstone you will only have 15 minutes inside the Rift so be sure to make good use of your time there.
Nilganihmaht's Stone Ring
In order to get Nilganihmaht's Stone Ring you need to collect 4 Quartered Ancient Rings from various places in The Maw.
- This ring can only be accessed when the Necrolord Assault is active in The Maw.
- Accept and complete the quest Putting A Plan Together to get access
to the Overcharged Centurion.
- If this quest is not available in the current assault, then you cannot complete this ring and must wait for another Necrolord Assault to appear.
- The first Quartered Ancient Ring is found inside a Mawsworn Chest at /way 35.0, 69.7; use the Overcharged Centurion's Purestep Ascension ability to climb on top of the wall.
- The second Quartered Ancient Ring is a reward from a quest called
Clearing the Walls.
- Go to /way 30.3, 55.9 and loot the Mawsworn Chest there or others in the area. These can contain a Defense Map which starts the quest.
- You need to be inside the Overcharged Centurion in order to finish this quest.
- After finishing the quest the second ring will be given as a reward.
- The third Quartered Ancient Ring is dropped by
Maw Mad Construct found inside Perdition Hold.
- He will only spawn after you have collected at least one of the other Quartered Ancient Rings.
- When he spawns you will see an announcement saying: "You cannot have it! It is mine, stay away filthy Maw Walkers!".
- The fourth Quartered Ancient Ring is a random spawn on the floor at
Perdition Hold that only becomes available after you collect at least one of the
other rings.
- To make it easier to find the fourth ring you can buy a Trained Gromit Carrier from Archivist Roh-Suir in Korthia, which helps in finding treasures.
- Once you have collected all the 4 rings go to the Soulsteel Forge at /way 38.8, 39.7 in The Maw and combine them together to make Nilganihmaht's Stone Ring.
Nilganihmaht's Runed Band
Nilganihmaht's Runed Band is one of the easier rings to obtain as it just requires you to kill a rare enemy called Torglluun in the Rift phase of The Maw.
- Use one of the ways mentioned above to enter the Rift Phase;
- Make your way to /way 29, 25 in The Maw — you can use a Cypher of Relocation to quickly move from Korthia to The Maw;
- Kill Torglluun and loot the ring from him.
Nilganihmaht's Gold Band
- Make your way to /way 19.08,38.50 in The Maw.
- Jump on the blue ice and and start making your way up to the top.
- Nilganihmaht's Gold Band is located at /way 19.17, 32.30, which is the highest peak of the mountain.
Nilganihmaht's Silver Ring
Nilganihmaht's Silver Ring is within the Domination Sealed Chest located in The Maw at /way 66.12, 57.38. It is locked and needs 4 Seal Breaker Keys to be opened.
- The first key is found within a Feeder's Hand and Key, which is a drop from an Elite called Ylva found at /way 66.3, 42.1. You might need to find a group to take this beast down.
- The second key is a random drop from Helgrade Supply Caches scattered
around Helgarde Keep.
- You can purchase a Trained Gromit Carrier from Archivist Roh-Suir in Korthia to make finding caches a lot easier.
- The third key is located inside a building whose entrance is at
/way 66.91, 56.09.
- Make your way down the stairs until the end and you will see the key hanging on the right side of the wall — you have to be out of combat in order to loot the key.
- The fourth key is a random drop from Elites within Helgarde Keep. Either try to kill them solo or find a group to speed up the process until you get the key.
- After obtaining all 4 Seal Breaker Keys, go back to the Domination Sealed Chest and loot Nilganihmaht's Silver Ring.
Nilganihmaht's Signet Ring
Nilganihmaht's Signet Ring is a drop from Exos, Herald of Domination, a rare in The Maw that has to be summoned. To summon Exos you need to create Domination's Calling which in turn requires you to obtain 3 items from 3 other summoned rares. All 3 of the enemies you have to kill need to be summoned at different locations and they all require 3 players casting Convocation of Pain at the corners of the platforms in order to appear. However, note that you do not personally need Domination's Calling to access Exos if another player who already has it is willing to assist you.
- Dominion Etching: Pain — dropped by Talaporas, Herald of Pain at /way 28.9, 11.6;
- Dominion Etching: Loss — dropped by Apholeias, Herald of Loss at /way 19.4, 41.4;
- Dominion Etching: Grief — dropped by Ekphoras, Herald of Grief at /way 42.1, 21.2;
After obtaining the 3 Etchings, combine them together to make Domination's Calling. Then, go to /way 46.0, 47.7 and use Domination's Calling inside the room to create a portal. Use the portal and slay Exos, Herald of Domination to obtain Nilganihmaht's Signet Ring.
Combining The Rings
After you have all five rings — Nilganihmaht's Stone Ring, Nilganihmaht's Gold Band, Nilganihmaht's Silver Ring, Nilganihmaht's Signet Ring, and Nilganihmaht's Runed Band, access the Rift phase of The Maw and go to the cave located at /way 25.5, 36.8 When inside the cave go and place the 5 rings on the Hand of Nilganihmaht. With all five rings restored, the Hand becomes active and provides you with the Gotta Hand It To Ya quest that rewards you the with the mount: Nilganihmaht Control Ring
