Havoc Demon Hunter DPS Liberation of Undermine Raid Guide — The War Within (11.1.0)
On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Havoc Demon Hunter for each boss of the following raid: Liberation of Undermine. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — The War Within (11.1.0).
Introduction
Below, you can find class and spec-specific advice for every fight in Liberation of Undermine. If you are looking for a general overview of the Raid that is not spec-specific, check out our dedicated Liberation of Undermine Boss guides.
On this page, you will find tips and tricks specifically tailored toward Havoc Demon Hunters and its toolkit. It does not include general tips for mechanics, which are included in the full raid guide instead, whereas this page assumes that you are already familiar with most of the major mechanics of each encounter.
Our general recommendation for all encounters is Aldrachi Reaver,
both due to its stronger throughput and the additional funnel damage it can
bring.
All recommendations are progression-based tips and will not necessarily be the best for an overall DPS ranking.

Liberation of Undermine Raid Builds, Tips, and Tricks for Havoc Demon Hunter
Tips for Vexie Fullthrottle for Havoc Demon Hunter
Vexie and the Geargrinders is an AoE fight in the primary phase, with
a single-target burn intermission. As Havoc brings a lot of built-in cleave,
going for a single-target focused build and using adds for funnel into the boss
with Aldrachi Reaver is best suited here.
Defensive Tips
- Use
Blur if targeted by
Spew Oil as you will get hit by the initial pool landing. Have charges of
Fel Rush saved for this as well to drop it in a good position.
Cooldown Usage
- The burn intermission happens at the earliest at 1m45s and lasts for 45
seconds, meaning you can safely send
Metamorphosis and have it come back up for then.
Mechanical Tips
- Make sure to keep
Reaver's Mark applied to The Geargrinder to funnel any AoE damage into it via
Wounded Quarry.

Tips for Cauldron of Carnage for Havoc Demon Hunter
The Cauldron of Carnage combines a single-target main phase and a
2-target cleave intermission, repeating until the encounter is complete. Havoc
brings enough built-in cleave with a single-target build to cover the
intermission, so the higher throughput Aldrachi Reaver is recommended.
Defensive Tips
- There are no specific defensive requirements for this boss, so use
Blur freely when you feel unsafe. Use
Netherwalk if you are caught in a bad spot on either side.
Cooldown Usage
- Aim to use
Metamorphosis during the intermission. You should be able to get one use in at the beginning and have it align naturally after.
Mechanical Tips
- For the Flarendo side you need to actively dodge a lot of mechanics,
so use
Fel Rush carefully if you're in a bad position, and avoid dashing into other waves.
- For the Torq side you need to be much more careful with movement to
avoid being stunned. Stutter step during
Thunderdrum Salvo to avoid the swirlies while avoiding a lethal stun. Be very careful using movement tools like
Vengeful Retreat here as it still builds up the stun meter.

Tips for Rik Reverb for Havoc Demon Hunter
Rik Reverb is predominantly a single-target encounter, however the add
spawns triggered by Sparkblast Ignition need to die as quickly
as possible to avoid a wipe. Havoc's single-target loadout brings enough tools
to cover this, so a standard
Aldrachi Reaver build works best.
Defensive Tips
- Use
Blur if assigned to soak
Lingering Voltage. If not, make sure to use it if targeted by
Faulty Zap.
Cooldown Usage
Eye Beam should naturally line up with
Sparkblast Ignition spawns, and you should aim to hold it for these to burst down the largest clump.
Mechanical Tips
- Be careful of positioning to avoid the
Sonic Blast frontal, especially when using
Vengeful Retreat.
- If you can't reach an amplifier comfortably you can use Double Jump to get
over the
Blaring Drop rings.

Tips for Stix Bunkjunker for Havoc Demon Hunter
Stix Bunkjunker has single-target as the most important aspect, but
frequent add waves that require burst AoE to avoid them overwhelming the tank
is very helpful. Havoc's natural cooldown timers work out perfectly for this
anyway, and Aldrachi Reaver can also leverage these for funnel.
Defensive Tips
- There are no specific defensive requirements for this boss, so use
Blur freely when you feel unsafe.
Cooldown Usage
Eye Beam should be used liberally throughout here, as most add waves spawn quite far apart. You should be able to use one cast to break
Territorial on a Territorial Bombshell and have it come back in time for the add wave to be dumped by
Rolling Rubbish.
Mechanical Tips
- Have a charge of
Fel Rush saved to get out of the
Trash Compactor slam comfortably.

Tips for Sprocketmonger Lockenstock for Havoc Demon Hunter
Sprocketmonger Lockenstock is a pure single target encounter that has
a large amount of movement throughout, so a standard Aldrachi Reaver
build is recommended.
Defensive Tips
Blur is best saved for the intermission as healers will be busy moving to get into position, and raid damage is high.
- It can be difficult to get good value out of
Darkness here as the raid is regularly spread out, but placing it under the boss during the intermission where the melee will stack is your safest bet.
Cooldown Usage
Metamorphosis should just be used on cooldown here when you can guarantee uptime on the boss.
Mechanical Tips
Fel Rush and
The Hunt can be used to dash to the boss in the intermission, but beware your hitbox is active while travelling.
- Using Double Jump will pause the conveyor belt momentum change so use this to path to the boss quickly throughout the fight. Also use it to avoid falling down the two holes in the middle.

Tips for One-Armed Bandit for Havoc Demon Hunter
The One-Armed Bandit is a long encounter split between a phase with extremely high priority adds and a pure boss burn. Due to how important burning the adds down are in the first phase, Havoc's natural cooldown cycle plus funnel is perfectly suited.
Defensive Tips
Blur is best saved for the most dangerous combinations involving the Flame coins that deal raid-wide damage.
Darkness is also very well suited here. Organize with your healers for the combination they need the most help with.
Cooldown Usage
- Havoc should be able to very aggressively use
Eye Beam and have it ready for every add spawn triggered by
Spin To Win!. As soon as these waves spawn use
Fel Rush to engage them as quickly as possible.
Mechanical Tips
- Pay very close attention to
Pay-Line spawns, both to gain the
High Roller! Haste buff and to avoid being killed by standing in its path.

Tips for Mug'Zee for Havoc Demon Hunter
Mug'zee is mechanically very complex, but there is not as much in the
way of DPS optimization needed as they are all encounter specific things that
need to interact. As the fight has a fixed 40% burn phase and no major adds to
deal with, Aldrachi Reaver is well suited.
Defensive Tips
Blur is best saved for
Disintegration Beam, otherwise it can be freely used during one of the many raid damage moments.
Cooldown Usage
- Remember that the boss transitions at exactly 40% and begins the enrage
burn. Make sure to have
Metamorphosis and all other cooldowns ready for this as damage dealt before is not as important.
Mechanical Tips
- While there are a lot of add spawns, it is hard to get much cleave value as
Unstable Crawler Mines are immune and
Earthshaker Gaol will be split. Aim to have
Reaver's Mark on Mug'zee at least throughout to get some extra value from
Wounded Quarry if you ever swap.

Tips for Chrome King Gallywix for Havoc Demon Hunter
This boss was not testable on the PTR servers.
Information will be forthcoming once it is available on Live servers.
For now, Aldrachi Reaver is the most likely pick due to its higher
throughput.
Defensive Tips
- Check back after the boss has been seen on live servers.

General Defensive Usage
Havoc Demon Hunter has a handful of defensive tools with different cooldowns to tackle dangerous situations if you are proactive. Your active tools are:
Blur (1 minute cooldown)
Netherwalk (3-minute cooldown)
Darkness (5-minute cooldown, 3 with
Pitch Black)
Ideally, you should be using these to reduce the largest incoming hits in an
encounter to give your healers more breathing room when things are hectic. Due to
the low cooldown of Blur, you can generally use it quite liberally while
Netherwalk serves more as an emergency tool. You also have quite a lot of
extra self-sustain during
Metamorphosis thanks to
Soul Rending, and
Aldrachi Reaver has the added benefit of healing from Soul Fragments very
frequently.
General Cooldown Usage
Havoc Demon Hunter only has a couple of important cooldowns to consider rotationally. Your general rule of thumb is to make sure you never miss out on a use of either of these:
Metamorphosis — Havoc's big 2-minute cooldown that increases your Haste and greatly empowers your rotational abilities. This lasts for quite a while, and you should always make sure to time this with periods where you can guarantee full boss uptime. Also resets the cooldown on
Eye Beam. Getting value out of this is especially important as
Fel-Scarred.
Eye Beam — This is more rotational for Havoc as it deals a lot of up-front AoE damage and also provides a way to enter Demon Form via
Demonic. This should be used as close to on cooldown as possible.
The Hunt — An up-front damage cooldown, but more importantly for
Aldrachi Reaver a way to on-demand trigger
Reaver's Glaive. This is generally used on cooldown, but can be held to burst down key adds if needed.
If you see an opportunity to get extra value out of any of these cooldowns in an encounter, always assess whether or not it will cost you a use before the encounter ends. If it will, decide whether or not it is absolutely necessary to do extra damage at that key moment in an encounter, and if not, do not hold them. We have more details on cooldown usage on our Rotation page:
You may also find it helpful to use a time-to-die weakaura, or, if you are using
Method
Raid Tools, this has a built-in option to display this. If you are aware of how
long is left in an encounter, you can better estimate how much you can
hold cooldowns for key moments, Bloodlust, or your potion uses.
