Krosus Strategy/Tactics for Normal/Heroic
Table of Contents
General Information
On this page, you will find a working strategy to defeat Krosus in The Nighthold for both Normal and Heroic modes, which usually only differ by the tuning of the boss.
Here, we assume that you have read our descriptions of the abilities for this encounter.
The other pages of our Krosus guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.
Positioning
Positioning on Krosus is mostly dictated by the room itself, as the bridge is long and narrow, which does not allow for much variance in raid distribution. Players will need to move from side to side frequently to avoid taking damage from Fel Beam. Krosus will raise one of his arms, indicating which side of the bridge will be blasted. All raid members should quickly move to the opposite side of the bridge to avoid being killed by the beam. Please note that the beams occupy about three fifths of the bridge's width, preventing players from just standing directly in the center of the bridge and making micro movements to either side.
Krosus will periodically target a player with an Orb of Destruction. The targeted player should run to the back of the bridge to ensure the raid takes as little damage as possible. There is a 5 second grace period to allow for movement. A Demonic Gateway should be placed if available to allow ease of movement to and fro the back of of the bridge.
When Burning Pitch is cast, all raid members should spread out and soak as many of the circles as possible to reduce the number of Burning Ember spawns to a minimum. This becomes easier to deal with as the bridge gets smaller as the area becomes more cramped. The raid should quickly eliminate any Burning Embers that spawn, as they deal moderate raid damage.
Tanks should be sure to soak all Slams. This occurs approximately every 30 seconds. This deals high Physical damage, so minor cooldowns are a minimum. This can be soaked by any player, however, it will kill non-tanks. This is noteworthy, however, as it might save the raid if you lose a tank and your battle rez is down. Melee should be very aware of the slam zones to avoid being accidentally one shot.
Krosus will break the bridge every 90 seconds. There is a clear line showing where the break occurs; all players should ensure they are behind the line. Anyone caught in the bridge break will fall into the water below and be instantly killed. Each time the bridge breaks, the area available to the raid becomes shorter and shorter. This makes soaking Burning Pitch easier, however, it makes the damage from Orb of Destruction increasingly more threatening. After 6 minutes Krosus will shatter the final section of the bridge, wiping the raid.
Tank Concerns
- Soak all the Slams so the raid doesn't wipe.
- Taunt swap every 7-10 stacks of Searing Brand. After the initial taunt swap it is safe to trade every time the other tank's stacks fall.
DPS Concerns
- Quickly eliminate Burning Embers when they spawn.
- Take any Orb of Destruction casts to the back of the bridge.
Raid Concerns
- Avoid being hit by Fel Beam.
- Help soak Burning Pitch to minimize spawns of Burning Embers.
- Be aware of the Bridge Smashes and avoid falling into the water below.
Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp
As Krosus is a single phase, it is recommended that you use Bloodlust on the pull to maximize damage done to the boss. This guarantees that all raiders cooldowns are synchronized, and since raid and tank damage is at its lowest it allows the healers to also deal respectable damage to the boss.
