M.O.T.H.E.R. Strategy/Tactics for Normal/Heroic
Table of Contents
General Information
On this page, you will find a working strategy to defeat M.O.T.H.E.R. in Uldir for both Normal and Heroic modes, which usually only differ by the tuning of the boss.
Here, we assume that you have read our descriptions of the abilities for this encounter.
The other pages of our M.O.T.H.E.R. guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.
Positioning and Strategy
The overall strategy goal for your raid during this encounter is to get to the third room (where MOTHER takes increased damage) as quickly as possible. You cannot simply move through the rooms too quickly, though, because doing so can wipe the raid due to the combined Defense Grid damage, and because the adds spawned by players crossing over through the Defense Grid all at once would overwhelm the raid.
First Room
MOTHER should be tanked close to where she stands, and the raid should start sending small groups across the Defense Grid towards the second room as soon as the Cleansing Purge in there subsides.
The first group that enters the second room should have plenty of crowd control in order to keep the Remnant of Corruption they spawn under control; most of the raid will still be in the first room fighting MOTHER, so DPS on this first set of adds will be light.
Players in the first room should stay away from the front of the boss, and be ready to run against Wind Tunnel when it happens. Players in the second room should do the same, and throw any reticle targeted abilities such as Blizzard across the barrier when they have downtime. All players should try to stay as close to the barrier between rooms as possible to allow AoE and cleave heals to bounce across.
Gradually send over more and more players to the second room, as long as your DPS can keep up with the adds, and the healers can keep up with the raid damage from players crossing over. The tank holding threat on MOTHER as well as their healer should be the last two people across, as bringing MOTHER into the second room will activate the Uldir Defensive Beams.
Second Room
The second room is exactly the same as the first, except for the addition of Uldir Defensive Beam. There is a safe spot in each each wall that the raid will need to move into in order to avoid the lethal damage that the lasers deal.
Uldir Defensive Beam will alternate between moving horizontally or vertically, so keep an eye out for where the safe zone will be. Vertical beams will always spawn from the ceiling and move to the floor, while horizontal beams can spawn on either the left or right sides of the room (west or east).
The same as in the first room, you should progressively move the raid over over into the third room, and once again, the tank holding threat on MOTHER as well as their healer should be the last two people across.
Third Room
The third room has no new mechanics, however the boss will now take 100% extra damage. The fight ends when MOTHER reaches 10% Health.
Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp
We advise you to use Bloodlust/ Heroism/ Time Warp in the third room. The boss will take an additional 100% damage during this phase, dramatically increasing the Heroism/Bloodlust value.
