It’s that time again, a quest in the new War Within expansion is stirring people’s hearts and minds. But can it compete with some of WoW’s best?
Past Bests
We have several entries in the best/most emotional quests ever already. From Dragonflight’s “Stay a While” and its pensive dwarf/dragon on a ledge, to the legendary Runas the Shamed from Legion. As with those, this one is also getting numerous posts on Reddit saying how good it is and how much it has moved everyone that played it.
As He Departs
Without going into heavy spoilers, it is a quest in the Mourning Rise on the Isle of Dorn connected to unlocking the Earthen race. It tackles some heavy themes, like loss of self and dementia that hit close to home for many. You should definitely give it a go in case you missed it the first time around. It starts with The Lost Earthen at Urtago (57,4 43,0) in the Mourning Rise.
Here are just some of the community’s thoughts about it, many heartfelt and grounded in personal experiences.
And there’s plenty more as well:
- Was genuinely a super well written quest. Wanna buy the person who did it a beer.
- Finished the questline not too long ago. Not gonna lie it hit me like a ton of bricks.
- I just completed the questline and…I didn’t expect a WoW quest of all things to have me sobbing.
- Can confirm, I cried.
- I WEPT
That’s just a sample of the many shared sentiments on the quest, as it really seems to be the standout in the War Within so far.
Here’s the full questline if you want to relive it again, but definitely do yourself a service and play through it once before watching any videos. Or many times on all your alts
So what did you think? Does it rise to the level of Stay a While or Runas? What are some of your favorite quests over the years? Let us know over on twitter/X!
