A player recently gained massive attention after expressing frustration over the prevalence of “fixed routes” for tanks in Mythic dungeons. There are plenty of ways tanks can approach a dungeon without following what everyone else is doing — or is there?
A Tank’s Frustration Over “Fixed Routes”
LuxPerExperia shared their frustration about the way most players prepare for dungeons—by watching YouTube videos. They prefer creating their unique paths and don’t appreciate being told what to do. In their view, tanks should know their percentages, and the rest of the group should have little faith in them.
There are tons of skilled players out there, and sometimes it’s worth giving a different route a chance—who knows, it might be the next big thing.
Meanwhile, many DPS players have a simple mindset: “Just give us mobs to demolish. Wherever you go, we go.”
The Other Side: Why Meta Routes Matter
Preparing for dungeons with a meta route is probably the most optimal way, especially at higher key levels. Why? Because metas exist for a reason.
As MoG_Varos points out, the “I’ll make my own route” approach can work up to around +11, where you can do pretty much whatever you want as long as you reach 100% enemy forces and time the dungeon. However, once you’re doing +12s and +13s, it’s worth at least understanding the meta routes. You don’t have to follow them religiously, but you should consider why they’re meta in the first place—pulls, skips, and efficiency are crucial at higher levels.
Sometimes, though, the real issue is that tanks aren’t doing good pulls, and then they get upset when someone calls out the route.
