We’ve seen plenty of bugs since the War Within arrived, which is pretty standard for expansion launches. This is one’s more in the “maybe” pile, as there are only a few reports, and it’s unclear why or what might be happening.
A Catalyst Downgrade?
The first report is definitely real, as Mysterious_Dealer_ caught the downgrade from an item level 610 shoulder piece to a 587. Unsure of whether it was just a visual tooltip issue, they decided not to waste their Catalyst charge and did not “upgrade” the item.
So far, so weird. There are plenty of tooltip errors floating around, so it’s possible that, if activated, the Catalyst might work normally and the 610 tier piece would pop out. However, a comment in the thread from Burnerghost13 claimed that they did push the button and their 610 downgraded to 603:
This one didn’t come with any proof, so it’s very much anecdotal. The rest of the thread didn’t bring any additional players encountering the issue, so it’s still unclear what, if anything, is happening.
But, just in case there are some rare occasions where the Catalyst eats up item levels, maybe take a good look at what it’s telling you the output item’s level will be!
