But Why Tho? sat down with Associate Game Director Morgan Day and Encounter Designer Katrina Yepiz to dive into the details of World of Warcraft’s upcoming Patch 11.1: Undermine(d). One of the hottest topics? Valorstones—and Blizzard knows they’re a problem.

Right now, Valorstones are stuck in a frustrating spot: players either cap them quickly and have nothing to spend them on or struggle to collect enough when they actually need them. There’s barely any middle ground, leaving many to question if the system is even necessary.

Interview Highlights

  • Morgan Day confirmed that Valorstones are a hot topic within the community. The dev team has primarily focused on crests for Mythic+ content since they often become the limiting factor for gear progression.
  • Day further elaborated on how Valorstones play a significant role early in the season when players need them for upgrades. As the season progresses and players accumulate enough crests, the importance of Valorstoned diminishes.
  • Blizzard recognizes this drop as an unhealthy dynamic for the game.
  • Although changes for Mythic+ were not directly addressed, Day did confirm that raids will see an increased drop for Valorstones.
