We didn’t get much information on the awesome new car we’re getting in patch 11.1 from the Warcraft Direct. But luckily that drought didn’t last long as PC Gamer got the details ready, straight from Lead Quest Designer Mark Kelada.
We’re Going a LOT Faster
As expected, the D.R.I.V.E. ground mount is going to be a lot faster than regular mounts. It’s not quite reaching the dizzying speeds of Skyriding’s almost 800-1200% (or is it?). But at those speeds we’d just be stuck on terrain the whole time anyway. The actual “base” speed mentioned is 4-5 times faster than a normal ground mount.
“It moves at base, I think, roughly four to five times faster than your standard ground mount. So when people hear ‘no skyriding’, I would say yes, just wait until you get into this car.” – Mark Kelada
So the “at base” part of the above quote is perhaps a little vague. We will also be getting a boost active ability that will increase the speed of the mount. It’s unclear if the 4-5X speed is referring to the boosted speed or actual base speed, which will then get further increased by the boost. From the wording it seems likely that the mount will work the same as Skyriding, with the base speed increased to the 400 – 500% range and then the boost taking it over the top, same as Surge Forward, Skyward Ascent etc.
Fast And Furious 11: Undermine Drift
Aside from the mount just going fast, it will also have at least one active ability, the boost, which will have a meter that gets charged. The team is still in development for the feature, but right now they’re thinking about things like the boost meter charging faster the more you drift. We’ll also be able to tinker with various things surrounding the boost, like its top speed versus acceleration or how quickly it regenerates. There could also be an optional NPC in the car that can help you out! We can see “additional usable abilities” all over that NPC, but that’s just our speculation. And of course, we also have the base car customizations as well! We’ll be able to set its grip, acceleration, drift stats and more!
“I think the moment I started seeing the concepts coming out for Undermine it all made a lot of sense. It was like ‘oh, we can have fuel and explosions and just go crazy on this, and it really sort of fits the vibe’ … it was just like a slam dunk.” – Mark Kelada
So, potential skyriding speeds on the ground? We’ll need to go train on some racing games before 11.1 arrives, it seems! Head on over to the PC Gamer interview for the full story, along with a few more details on Undermined and its features.
