Get Ganked and Immediately Kill Your Attacker! Rextroy Dishes Out Vengeance

Staff's Avatar by Staff

Killing a low-level player isn’t exactly what you’d call honorable, but it still happens all the time in WoW. Rextroy decided to have some fun with players who decide to prey on a (seemingly) helpless lowbie, dishing out some immediate revenge.

Mild Entrapment

While the video’s name is “You Gank… You Die”, we wouldn’t necessarily call what these players did ganking. Well, at least not without an asterisk. If you go around and kill low-level players you run across in various zones, then yes, you should be called a ganker. But what if a level 20 Dranei shows up in front of Orgrimmar on a PvP server and basically taunts you to kill them?

The Flaming Shield of Death

This being Rextroy, you already know what the deal is. There’s some sort of scaling bug somewhere, and he decided to have some fun with it! This time around it was Blazing Barrier iconBlazing Barrier and some big HP stacking (since a mere few million in reflected damage just wouldn’t do) via the Moment of Glory iconMoment of Glory Azerite Power and Jes' Howler iconJes’ Howler for that extra damage.

Long story short, if you hit Rex’s level 20, you die:

You can find the full combo description at the end of the video. There’s some pretty fun shenanigans before that. Players slowly realize what’s going on, and Rex even has to switch servers! His tricks are countered by simple dispels or… just leaving him alone! Here’s the full description as well.

Rex Explains it All

“Truely hilarious, how the horde so eagerly throw themselves into their own demise. The combo you are seeing is a weird scaling bug (wow again?) with Overpowered Barrier, that makes low level barriers deal A LOT of damage!

The scaling bug was told to me by a comment from my 20 mage vs lvl 80s video. But the barrier bug alone won’t be enough. The scaling only brings it up to 3-4 million at a lvl 20 if you were to min max twinking. So we had to find another way…

Original plan was the Overpowered Barrier frost version, making Ice Barrier explode if consumed within 5 seconds. Why not use similar primary stat trinkets like I did in my earlier scaling videos? Because the trinkets and buffs will drop off before your barrier explodes (if the hit that breaks the barrier also killed you) and thats very likely since we are lvl 20. This means they won’t have any effect on our explosion damage. Perhaps we could find a niche combo to survive, while also being buffed by an external buff, aswell as timing all this within 5 seconds and making sure we take enough damage to break the shield… but there was a simplier more fun way.

Blazing Barrier version (the fire one) is bugged so that you can talent into Overpowered Barrier AFTER shielding yourself, without the shield dropping off. This is perfect because we keep the reflection damage buff for a whole minute! and Blazing barrier scales with max hp, so if we found a way to increase our max health, then BOOM! combo secured. Well we had some issues here too.

We decided to go for our old friend Moment of Glory (AZERITE GEAR!!!) that is obtained by Warriors. But a sad surprise was that the actual health provided was a bit less than shown in the Dungeon Journal, so my math ended up being “off” by 20%. To finally secure the combo, we hunted an old trinket I have known about since BFA times but never ended up needing it, the Jes Howler trinket. This grants our lowbie versatility cap. Which makes our shield end up with around 15-20 million damage output!

A really fun and unique combo, since its up to the horde to “one shot”… themselves. With ress sickness lasting 1 minute, we can perform this combo every 2 minute, which is among the fastest one shot “recharges” I have done. Ofcourse we got a few weaknesses. Such as bugged abilities not reflecting damage, or dispelling the shield, or pets killing you… OR waiting out the duration! But I guess every trap has to have an escape… right?”

So, would you have taken the bait and gotten an easy kill on a level 20 parading in front of Org?
