In-Game Disenchanting Rates Suddenly Drop – A New Stealth Nerf?

Staff's Avatar by Staff

A sharp-eyed player, Reddit user Aspalar, has uncovered what appears to be a significant, stealth nerf to disenchanting rates on live servers!

Overnight, Aspalar noticed a drastic reduction in the amount of Rank 3 (R3) dust generated per disenchant, raising alarm bells within the r/woweconomy subreddit.

A Troubling Shift

Aspalar meticulously logs every disenchant in the game, totaling over 21,000 disenchants to-date. Before this potential nerf, their average dust yield from disenchanting hovered around 0.99 R3 dust per item. Over 21K disenchants, they only fell below 0.8 R3 dust per item on 14 batches (roughly 1,500 items).

However, since the recent nerf, Aspalar’s experience has shifted dramatically. After disenchanting 2,400 items overnight, they report an average of just 0.68 R3 dust per disenchant, which is a noticeable drop. The consistency of the results led them to speculate that Blizzard may have quietly adjusted disenchanting rates.

Stealthy Nerf or Unlucky Streak?

Initially attributing the changes to bad luck, Aspalar’s continued findings suggest otherwise. Given the volume of disenchanted items and the sudden shift in dust yield, many in the community are starting to agree with the theory of a stealth nerf. Aspalar has provided a detailed spreadsheet to support their claims.
