Is the Gearing System Holding Back War Within Season 1 Progression?

Staff's Avatar by Staff

The War Within Season 1 has players talking, especially about the challenges with the current gearing system! What’s causing the issues?

Delve Gear Affecting Mythic+

The Champion gear you get from Delves is as effective as rewards from Mythic +2 to +8 dungeons. This makes these low keys feel less rewarding, making them a grind to reach better rewards at Mythic +9 and above.

The Lack of Gilded Crests

Hero and Champion gear feel very similar until higher-end content like Mythic +9 keystones or late Heroic raid bosses, due to the lack of Gilded crests needed for upgrades.

Players will eventually reach a point in the game where they cannot upgrade their gear past item level 619 because they do not have Gilded crests. This is causing another issue with Valorstones.

Valorstone Cap Issue

Another frustration is the cap on Valorstones. Players often find themselves with either none or the full 2,000, leaving many with capped characters and no way to use the rewards. Without enough Gilded Crests for upgrades, Valorstones quickly have no use if you upgrade all your slots to 619.

The cap on Valorstones should be either removed or raised significantly. I have multiple characters who are capped because I have nothing to spend them on due to needing more Gilded Crests for upgrades, making any Valorstone rewards go to waste.

How Could the System Be Improved?

For players who rely on Delves for gearing, a roadblock eventually appears: even after filling all slots with Hero gear, it becomes impossible to upgrade beyond item level 619. This is due to the limited availability of Gilded Crests, which are mainly obtained from higher Mythic+ keys or Heroic raid bosses.

The system could become more player-friendly by introducing additional sources of Gilded Crests, allowing for frequent gear upgrades. Another solution would be to remove or increase the Valorstone cap, giving players more flexibility in how they progress their gear. These adjustments could make the progression feel smoother and more rewarding at every stage of the season.
