A passionate World of Warcraft player, known as Icebane08 on Reddit, has achieved something truly extraordinary: gathering every single obtainable crafting pattern from all professions in the game. This massive undertaking, which spanned multiple expansions and demanded meticulous planning, relentless grinding, and a whopping amount of gold, firmly establishes them as one of Azeroth’s most devoted collectors!
A Journey Years in the Making
The journey began during the Shadowlands expansion, but for a collector like Icebane08, the groundwork was laid long before that. Using 7 characters to cover every single profession, they set out to gather patterns from all corners of the game.
In the Reddit AMA, they shared some of the grind’s most grueling aspects. One standout was the Wicked Mithril Blade, a Blacksmithing recipe from Classic WoW, that only drops in Scholomance.
“It took me over 200 runs,” they said, highlighting just how much RNG played a role in the grind.
Other challenges included:
- Farming Sunwell Plateau trash mobs, where patterns drop sporadically, making the process slow and painfully unpredictable.
- Chipping away at Wrath and Cataclysm jewelcrafting patterns locked behind dailies, requiring a very slow grind.
- Unlocking Legion Rank 3 gathering recipes, which many collectors agree are some of the most frustrating to obtain.
Strategy and Investment
This accomplishment wasn’t cheap either. It required steady resources. By their own estimate, Icebane08 spent over 20 million gold on rare patterns, particularly those from The Burning Crusade. They also make use of the cross-realm trading system introduced in Dragonflight, scouring Auction Houses for bargains to save millions.
One investment paid off in spades! They acquired the Elemental Lariat recipe from Dragonflight early on for 600,000 gold and turned it into a gold-making machine. “I probably made 10-15 million gold crafting lariats,” they shared.
Why Go Through All This?
When asked why they took on such a gargantuan task, Icebane08 explained that it was a personal challenge. For them, the process was just as rewarding as the result. “It took me to every expansion, instance, and corner of Azeroth for multiple years,” they reflected.
They also pointed out how overlooked crafting patterns are compared to mounts or pets. “Many recipes are way more rare than mounts,”, they said, emphasizing how few players truly understand the level of dedication required for such a collection.
What’s Next for the Collector?
With crafting patterns now checked off their list, Icebane08 does not plan to rest! They are already working on perfecting their mount, pet, and toy collections. They rank 9th overall in the US on Data for Azeroth and are determined to maintain their spot as one of the game’s top collectors.
“It’s been a grind, but for me, it’s a fun challenge,” they shared.
