Midnight’s Player Housing: A Deep Dive into Basic Mode

Staff's Avatar by Staff

The long-awaited player housing system in Midnight comes with two decoration modesBasic and Advanced. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to furnish your space, Basic Mode is your go-to option. Here’s everything you need to know about it!

What is Basic Mode?

Basic Mode is designed for intuitive and efficient decorating, allowing you to quickly place, remove, and move objects while keeping their placement aligned and visually pleasing. Unlike Advanced Mode, which offers more fine-tuned control, Basic Mode helps streamline the decorating process with built-in rules and constraints that ensure objects interact naturally with their surroundings.

Key Features

We’re now going to talk about the key features of Basic Mode.

Simple Object Placement and Movement

  • Objects stay grounded, when moved, they naturally settle on top of other objects or return to the floor.
  • Items cannot be lost in walls, as collision detection ensures objects do not phase through walls, floors, or ceilings.
  • Decor aligns correctly depending on its type. Rugs snap to floors, paintings snap to walls, and objects stay correctly placed when moved around corners.

Here’s a video of how object placement works in Basic Mode.

Smart Rotation and Alignment

  • Objects rotate around their up-afix with 15-degree snapping, ensuring everything stays neatly aligned.
  • Rotation helps maintain consistency across your design.

Auto-Snapping to Surfaces

  • Small objects like books, cups, and lamps will automatically attach to larger furniture like tables or shelves.
  • Moving the larger object moves everything attached to it, saving time and preventing misplaced items.

Grid System for Precise Placement

  • Grid snapping lets you neatly arrange decorations with ease.
  • The grid adapts to different surfaces, making it easy to keep everything aligned, even on smaller surfaces like tables.

Basic Mode is perfect for players who want a structured and fast decorating experience without having to micromanage every small movement.

For those who want more creative freedom, Advanced Mode offers full customization, but for most players, Basic Mode will be the go-to option for effortlessly setting up their dream homes!
