There’s an incredible amount of information coming out of the creator housing event today. We tried putting all the important things together below, from various interviews and previews. From one house per account and faction, to an actual progression system, number of houses in a neighborhood, Vanilla assets, there’s so much to cover. We have previews and interviews from Preach, Dratnos, Buffed.de, and more, so let’s get to it !
House Size Details
Each player will only have one house they can own per faction. So it’s only two houses per player/account, regardless of how many alts you have. There is currently no limit to the number of rooms in a house, but there will be one. Since the inside and outside of the house are not connected, the inside can be really huge without it looking crazy on the outside.
There is a 10,000 item limit on housing at the moment, which shouldn’t be possible to hit. The most complex houses that were seen during the event hit around 2,000. There should also be a “history” of the changes you’ve made to the house, so you can look through how you’ve changed it in the past, but it may not be ready for launch!
There will be a progression system to housing, with Blizzard mentioning levels, but no details on how it will work.
Customization/Decor
Customization items are actual physical items in the game. This means when you get a table or trophy, you can’t just spam as many of them as you want. You’ll have to get multiples. You can recolor/retexture these items in various ways. The same item can even have different colors or textures on different parts of it, like a box with metal and wood parts. You can also resize an item to 20-200% of its original size.
There will be pre-built rooms and layouts for players who don’t want to start from scratch. You will be able to get different styles of decorations from different locations. One example was that you can get Dwarven furniture from a vendor in Ironforge. Professions will have a lot of decor crafting options. Some things can only be crafted if you have certain achievements.
We might get paintings of your characters to use as decor! This isn’t confirmed yet.
Older game assets will not be updated, which means you can actually decorate your house with old items/furniture from Vanilla, BC, etc, for that authentic look! With each new patch, there will be more customization options available. It won’t be all the new additions, as the team will choose what will be added to the pool.
They don’t want players to have to run old dungeons/raids, etc. to get housing decor. There could be a vendor or similar next to instance entrances where you can get things from the dungeon/raid.
Neighborhoods
Neighborhoods are full-sized zones that will house your houses. They are very different than other zones we have in the game now. These are being designed with a big social element, as they want players coming back and spending time there. They will have a way to make them unique, with some new tech.
There should be a way to have neighborhoods that have housing with a similar theme so they’re more coherent and not just random styles of each player side-by-side. Each neighborhood should have around 50 houses. Moving to a different neighborhood won’t be easy. You might have to rebuild your entire house!
There will be specific reasons, a core loop, to keep coming back to neighborhoods, as there is a worry that the houses themselves might become as separate from everything else as Garrisons were. The same goes for the houses themselves. They want players to keep coming back even after they’ve decorated everything as they like. Housing should be very much integrated with the rest of the game, not just a separate, isolated activity.
Housing Benefits
While it’s very clear there will be no player power to be gained from housing, there will be plenty of utility. Professions should be getting quite a lot in there, specifically. The exact amount isn’t clear yet as they’re still figuring it out. Considering just how many things are now available with mounts, it will probably be more than that.
We’ll definitely be finding out a lot more about housing soon, but hopefully this piqued your interest! What’s one feature you think housing has to have that wasn’t mentioned above?
