Overcoming Dungeon and Group Anxiety in WoW

Here’s something you may not see very often, at least not openly like this. A touching story of one player’s battle against his disability of visual impairment and group anxiety, which he successfully overcame to enjoy WoW to its fullest.

TheKephas shares his tale about dungeon anxiety, talks about accessibility, help from modern UI tools and mods, how Blizzard and the community in general could do a lot better to improve the environment, and how the greatest accessibility feature is a group of understanding players.

Touching on his time with Final Fantasy XIV, he explains why it felt different than WoW at the time. “Looking back on it now, I realize that it was the game’s community as well as its more intuitive dungeon mechanics which helped me overcome my anxiety about running group content.”

Returning back to WoW and discussing the Dawnbreaker dungeon, he mentions how turning off what many would consider a tiny thing, Skyriding, changed the difficulty for him immensely. It turned what was once an almost impossible thing into a breeze run.

TheKephas ends the video on a high note and words of encouragement for all the players struggling with similar problems. “Everyone deserves the chance to learn, no matter how long it takes or what challenges they face, whether you’re new to the game, trying a new role, or dealing with a disability like me. You deserve the same opportunity to enjoy the game as everyone else. The fear of making mistakes or facing negativity shouldn’t stop you from participating.”
