A recently discovered file in the Cataclysm Classic PTR build has unveiled more about the highly-anticipated player housing system!

A hidden Lua API file named PlayerHousingConstants.lua provided insights into potential features and customization options. Interestingly, Blizzard placed its file within the Cataclysm Classic PTR build, perhaps hoping it would go unnoticed, but the community has already found it.

Customization Options for Player Housing

The Lua file suggests a robust customization system, offering a variety of options for both exterior and interior decorations. According to the HousingDecorFlags section, players will be able to customize elements categorized as:

  • Exterior – Likely affecting the outside of the house, such as walls, roofs, and landscaping.
  • Interior – Covering inside decor, including furniture and room layouts.

Further customization extends to themes, with 5 distinct styles mentioned under HousingDecorTheme:

  1. None
  2. Folk
  3. Rugged
  4. Generic
  5. Opulent

Structural Elements and Layout Options

The data also points to specific customizable elements within homes, such as:

  • Floors, Walls, Ceilings, and Tabletops, giving players significant freedom in decorating.
  • Exterior component sizes, ranging from any to large, hinting at scalable options for different player needs.

Players may also get to choose exterior themes, with “Human” currently listed, possibly implying other racial aesthetics in the future, most likely intended for all the existing races in World of Warcraft.

Housing Permissions and Editing Tools

The file includes an extensive list of permissions under HousingPermission, indicating that Blizzard plans to offer a collaborative building experience, allowing your friends or guild mates to help you decorate your house. Permissions include:

  • Adding and removing decor.
  • Moving objects
  • Editing layouts
  • Entering an Edit Mode for deeper customization

Strings for Potential Limitations

The file also contains HousingResult values, which provide insight into strings like HouseNotFound, PermissionDenied, and MaxDecorReached, hinting at system-imposed limits on decorations and ownership.
