The Most Popular M+ Specs and Groups in Season 2 Week 10

Staff's Avatar by Staff

The meta is shifting, but slowly. We see some big drops for the top group composition, but it’s still far ahead of the rest. Unholy also drops quite a bit this week thanks to the tuning, as Paladins take over even more, while Augmentation more than triples its player count! Let’s dive in.

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular DPS Specs in Mythic+

The big story of the tuning pass is, of course, Augmentation. We’ve already seen it massively move up in the completion rates and DPS, but it’s also making a comeback in popularity! It’s still a very small part of the keys below, but that dark green sliver was completely non-existent last week. The Druids have passed the Death Knights in the class war, as Unholy lost some players. Paladin manages to be in 4th place with only the single DPS spec, just behind Mage and ahead of Hunter, both with their three specs.

Paladins grab almost another full percentage point this week, as it seems the buffs garnered them quite a few new players on top of the extra damage! Marksmanship remains in the exact same spot, with Balance dropping a tiny bit. Arcane continues its rise, gaining 0.5%, and all these gains have to come from somewhere, with that somewhere being Unholy, which dropped 1.3%! Havoc also got some new player after the buffs, gaining 0.5%. While still down near the bottom, Augmentation gained a whole lot, especially compared to where it was before, more than tripling its player count from 0.2 to 0.7%!

Group Composition Popularity

While the top group comp isn’t going to change soon, we do see it continue to decline week-over-week. This time it’s a 1.5% drop, bringing the (still colossal) gap between it and the second group to 14.5% – a pretty large 4.5% change from last week. The second group switches out the Unholy DK for a Ret Paladin, which shows why the spec has risen so much this week. The next three compositions are pretty close together, adding Marksmanship to the DPS mix and just switching all the above specs around.

Right after that, in 6th, we see our first healer change, as Resto Shamans enter the equation. If you’re looking for a tank change it’ll take a while, as we need to go down to the 26th most popular group composition to find the first non-Vengeance tank, as Prot Pala shows up. Two spots later in 28th we see a Prot Warrior, and that’s about it for this chart when it comes to non-Demon Hunters.

The tuning will take a while to take full effect, so next week’s rankings should be more definitive. That is, if we don’t get some more tuning!
