Vordrassil’s Roots Spotted in Yogg-Saron’s Lair – A Hidden Lore Connection

During this week’s Wrath Timewalking event, players have uncovered a fascinating easter egg in Ulduar’s Yogg-Saron boss room: the roots of Vordrassil, the fallen World Tree from Grizzly Hills.

This find, originally spotted by FurRealDeal, highlights a deep lore connection between Northrend’s dark history and the Old God’s prison. Back in Wrath of the Lich King, the textures were lower resolution, making the roots harder to notice—so the Redditor marked them for better visibility.

Vordrassil: A Tree Doomed by Corruption

Once called Andrassil, this World Tree was planted by Fandral Staghelm in an attempt to halt the spread of saronite. However, without the blessing of the Aspects, the tree became corrupted by the Old Gods. When its roots pierced Yogg-Saron’s prison, the corruption spread, forcing druids to cut it down, renaming it to Vordrassil, which means “Broken Crown”.
