Well, it was bound to happen! Players have been farming some pretty easy item level 639 gear from Delves using the Wave Scrambler 2000, and Blizzard have put a stop to it.
A Short-Lived Market
The Wave Scrambler 2000 had a cooldown of 1 hour and could summon the Underpin boss at the summoning stone-looking checkpoint in Delves. The boss could only drop the Bountiful map once per week (although there are reports of players getting it twice). But the real farm was the 50-50 chance of him dropping Champion track 639 gear! Players would create groups and farm the boss, alternating who summons him. However, there was an even bigger thing happening, as the item was not Bind on Pickup!
That’s right, there were plenty of Wave Scramblers being sold on the Auction House. Normally the item costs 2,000 Undercoin, but now gold was an option as well.
The Nerf
As spotted by AedionMorris, the nerf was pretty straightforward. Blizzard simply increased the item’s cooldown from 1 hour to 1 week. Now it serves its presumably intended purpose of giving players that maybe didn’t run into the Underpin randomly a guaranteed encounter with the boss.
So, no more easy 639s from Delves! That still leaves the Delver’s Bounty 649 maps once (or maybe even twice) per week and the regular Bountiful 639 Delve loot, which isn’t half bad!
