WoW Player Housing Will Have Real Money Store Decorations

Blizzard finally announced the first specific details of the player housing system coming in Midnight. We got a a lot of information, but one piece in particular is very interesting, and probably very expected as well.

Decorations From the Store

While the majority of our housing decorations will be coming from in-game achievements and drops, a part will be exclusive to the store. As with everything else in the store, this can be purchased with real money or Blizzard balance. Blizzard stated the ratio of purchasable decorations to those received in-game will be small. Specifically, they compared the ratio to the currently available giant amount of transmog and pet options available in the game Vs. the store. Now, of course, this is (presumably) only for the initial launch of the feature, and both the in-game and store options will only increase over time.

Here’s the exact wording from the preview article:

Similarly, there have been discussions in the community on whether Housing will be pay to play/win or not, along with other conversations around real-world money. We’ve been very aligned in our internal conversations that Housing is designed to be primarily player-first and not revenue-first. Housing will offer hundreds and hundreds of decorations and house customizations via in-game rewards but will also offer a smaller number of items in the cash shop as well. This is comparable to how transmogs and pets are currently handled in game versus the shop. We want to allow players to have as many options as possible for creating their perfect home in Azeroth.

So what do you think? Did you expect this and do you think it’s a good thing?
