Introduction
If you are new to Preservation, this is a great place to start to get an
understanding of how the spec works. On this page we will discuss what
abilities you have, what they are used for within the specialization, how they
interact with each other and also with important cooldowns. If you already
have experience with Preservation and are comfortable with it in the current expansion, it is
recommended you skip this section and move on to the rest of the guide.

Main Resource of Preservation Evokers
Preservation Evokers have two resources, Essence and Mana. Nearly
every spell
will cost some form of Mana, and you must manage your Mana
so that it does not run out before the encounter is finished. Some spells also cost Essence
on top of their Mana cost. Essence regenerates over time and is capped at either
5
or 6, depending on if you take a talent to increase it. Three spells consume
Essence: Echo costs 2 Essence, Emerald Blossom
costs
3 Essence, and Disintegrate costs 3 Essence. You must avoid
wasting Essence by capping out unless you are saving that Essence for a specific
mechanic that is about to occur.

Unlocking Abilities
Note that this page simply lists all the different abilities, assuming you
are
at max level. If you are leveling, check out our dedicated Preservation
Evoker
Leveling page, which has detailed information on when you unlock all of these
abilities.

Baseline Abilities for Preservation Evokers
Awakened is the racial passive for Dracthyr. This
increases your
Mastery by 2.5%.
Visage has a passive effect that increases out-of-combat
health
regeneration for your party.
Living Flame is an ability that can be used both offensively and
defensively. It is Preservation's only real spammable ability.
Hover allows you to cast some abilities while moving. This does not
include empowered abilities.
Azure Strike costs a small amount of Mana and allows you to damage
two enemies at once.
Emerald Blossom is your AoE Essence-spending heal. It costs 3 Essence
and will heal a small number of allies within 10 yards.
Fire Breath is an empowered ability that deals upfront damage
to enemies as well as leaving a DoT on enemies. The longer you channel this
ability, the more upfront damage it deals; however, it comes at the cost of a
shorter DoT.
Disintegrate is your damage-dealing Essence-spending ability. This
costs
3 Essence and deals damage over a channeled duration.
Blessing of the Bronze is the Evoker raid buff which causes
your allies
movement speed ability to have their cooldown reduced by 15%.
