Jewelcrafting Guide for The War Within
This page covers the most important aspects of Jewelcrafting in The War Within, including talent builds and suggestions on how to make gold with the profession.
Jewelcrafting in The War Within
Jewelcrafting makes rings, such as the best in slot Binding of Binding, amulets, such as the Fractured Gemstone Locket, a way to add sockets to jewelery with Magnificent Jeweler's Setting, profession accessories, such as Enchanter's Crystal, gems, such as Versatile Ruby, and reagents, such as Gilded Vial.
They also Prospect Mining ores for most of their uncut gems, as well as Handful of Pebbles which can be further prospected, and Glittering Glass as common byproducts.
Finally, they can Crush cut or uncut gems to obtain Crushed Gemstones, which are an essential component of most Jewelcrafting crafts.
Best Race for Jewelcrafting in The War Within
There are no Horde races with Jewelcrafting bonuses, but Alliance players can be Draenei for +5 skill points or Kul'Tiran for +2 skill points.
Best Crafting Stats for Jewelcrafting in The War Within
Jewelcrafting can make great use of all four stats, but you might want to focus on specific stats with different Jewelcrafting specializations. We go into detail with Jewelcrafting stats and the gear you can use to boost them in the specialized guide below:
Leveling Jewelcrafting in The War Within
In order to be efficient, we recommend trying to get as many first-craft bonuses while leveling Jewelcrafting as possible, but the specific items to aim for while leveling depend on your server's material costs and current sale price for whatever you are crafting.
Jewelcrafting Knowledge in The War Within
You will be able to track all weekly and one-time sources of profession knowledge with Myu's Knowledge Points Tracker, a very helpful Weak Aura!
There are multiple treasures around Khaz Algar that you can loot for up to 24 extra knowledge. You can find them all easily in-game with the aforementioned Weak Aura or the Rarescanner addon, which will put up small treasure icons with a hammer underneath at their map location, as exemplified below.
Best Jewelcrafting Specializations and Talents in The War Within
One of your top gold making options is gem cutting with a heavy investment into the Gemcutting tree and its many sub-nodes. Green gems primarily give Haste, Purple gems primarily give Mastery, Red gems primarily give Crit, and Blue gems primarily give Versatility, allowing you to fine tune which gem stats to focus on while navigating through the tree.
Full investment into a specific gem type will allow you to cut Rank 3s with Rank 2 materials for cheap using relatively low amounts of Concentration, and you can start this process very early in your Jewelcrafting career, especially with knowledge catch-up being in effect.
Alternatively, the Jewelrycrafting tree focuses on gear crafting, with the left node being about amulets, the bottom node being about rings, and the right node being about profession accessories.
Finally, to improve your skill and efficiency at Prospecting, Crushing, and crafting (optional) reagents, invest into the Shaping tree, where the left and right sides handle reagents and the bottom has a huge amount of points, all dedicated to going from Prospecting mostly useless Ambivalent Amber and Rank 1 Crushed Gemstones to prospecting multiple colored gems per attempt and Crushing high quality reagents.
Making Gold with Jewelcrafting in The War Within
Ideally, Jewelcrafting allows you to convert cheap ores into expensive gems and other reagents, or endgame gear. Due to the commodity nature of reagents and gems, it is very likely that the market will quickly get loaded with crafts that are only marginally more expensive than the materials used to create them.
Until you fully max out skill, gear, and knowledge for your desired crafts, you will be reliant on Concentration to get maximum ranks out, which can quickly be exhausted every day, so make sure to create some alts to increase your production cap while it is still very profitable to do so! Even later on those can still be useful as they will be able to create maximum rank items more cheaply than the guaranteed method, which requires full Rank 3 reagents.
Gear crafting is expected to hold out for longer, but the epic crafts will require you to find customers willing to tip well, and also that you find recipes for rare gear, such as the Binding of Binding.
Magnificent Jeweler's Setting is an especially interesting item. It is extremely valuable, but barely interacts with the knowledge talent tree, and instead relies on a rare raid drop recipe from the penultimate boss.
We have a specialized guide for The War Within gold-making below, which contains a gold-making tier list and goes deeper into techniques and habits for successful gold making, as well as websites and addons that can help you on your journey!
