Magmorax Raid Guide in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible
TankNotes
I also have my own website dedicated to both tanks and raid leaders where I share my insight on the bosses with strategy and preparation advice which I will update after my guild has completed progress. If you are interested in this or want to discuss it on Discord, the links to them are below:
Strategy Guide: Quick TLDR Guide
- Use Bloodlust / Heroism on the pull.
- Stack as a raid with Molten Spittle.
- Soak Magma Puddle.
- Tanks: Swap after the Incinerating Maws combo has completed and use a defensive for it.
- Keep Magmorax away from Magma Puddle's to prevent Blazing Tantrum from dealing raid-wide damage and giving the boss Energy.
- Soak puddles from Igniting Roar.
- Avoid Blazing Breath.
- Use a knockback avoiding ability on Overpowering Stomp (or just run back to the boss after you are knocked away).
- When Magmorax reaches 100 energy, you will hit the enrage. Avoid making this happen earlier.
- Heroic/Mythic: Soaking Magma Puddle will apply a stacking debuff. Reaching 25 stacks will kill you.
- Mythic: Split Explosive Magma with other players.
Strategy Guide: Full Guide
The key mechanic on this encounter is Magma Puddle's. You need to strike a balance between soaking them to reduce their size and not taking too much damage. This is in addition to ensuring that you kill the boss before it reaches 100 energy.
- Use Bloodlust / Heroism on the pull.
- Move Magmorax towards the side of the room to minimize the distance people will need to move for mechanics.
- Players with Molten Spittle should stack together with the raid. This will force all of the pools to spawn on top of the raid and they will be instantly soaked. This is by far the easiest way to deal with the mechanic.
- Magma Puddle's will increase in size as the fight goes on; however, when you run into one, it will reduce in size but deal damage to you. You want to keep the puddles small but still focus on execution. Soak them if they start to grow too big (or are close to the boss).
- Tanks: Incinerating Maws hits the tank 3 times with each hit dealing increasing damage. Wait until all 3 hits have been completed before swapping, as you do not want to tank the boss after being hit by this.
- If Magmorax ever enters a Magma Puddle, Blazing Tantrum will be triggered. This deals raid-wide damage and gives the boss 5 energy. Avoid this at all costs, as this will reduce the enrage timer of the encounter.
- When Magmorax casts Igniting Roar, you must soak the puddles that spawn in the room. Failing to soak these will deal a large amount of damage to the raid and spawn a Magma Puddle.
- Magmorax will turn towards a random player and cast Blazing Breath. This is a large conal attack, be near the boss to minimize movement.
- Overpowering Stomp is a very large knockback. It will knock you from one side of the room to another. Use a knockback negating ability such as Glide, Death's Advance, Disengage or Demonic Gateway (this requires you to use the gateway just as you get knocked away).
- When Magmorax reaches 100 energy, you will hit the enrage. Avoid making this happen earlier.
Heroic changes:
- Soaking Magma Puddle will apply a stacking 15 second DoT.
- Reaching 25 stacks will trigger Incinerated and kill you.
Mythic changes:
- Soaking Magma Puddle is now a permanent DoT.
- Reacing 50 stacks will trigger Incinerated and kill you.
- During Molten Spittle one player will be marked with Explosive Magma. This will spawn a gigantic Magma Puddle, but the size is reduced based on the number of people who soaked Explosive Magma.
