General Information

On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Restoration Shaman for each boss of the following raid: Ny'alotha. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — Dragonflight 10.2.5.

1.

Introduction

In this section, you will find information and guidance for each boss individually in Ny'alotha as a Restoration Shaman. These are not complete encounter guides, but rather provide specific tips for any Restoration Shaman on each boss.

Even though the Shadowlands pre-patch removes Corruptions, making players much weaker than they used to be, the raids of Battle for Azeroth were adjusted accordingly, and it should be possible to continue killing the bosses, if you have an adequate group.

While it will generally not be listed below, Worldvein Resonance essence is a viable option on stacked fights where a lot of players are also using it, ensuring very high uptime. Make sure to consult your raid leader on how / when to use it.

Feel free to use Unwavering Ward (Unwavering Ward Icon Unwavering Ward) on stacked fights and Memory of Lucid Dreams (Memory of Lucid Dreams Icon Memory of Lucid Dreams) if you have Mana issues or lack any of the other recommended Essences.

3.

Wrathion, the Black Emperor

We advise you to use the following essences against Wrathion, the Black Emperor.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
3.1.

Tips

Avoid standing in front of or behind the boss as he has both a dangerous breath and a tail attack.

Once Incineration debuffs go out on the group, expect big raid damage after 8 seconds and set up accordingly. This occurs every 50-55 seconds. Gale Blast also causes high raid damage when cast. Look out for the overlap of both mechanics around 2:30 into the fight, which is the preferential time to use Spirit Link Totem Icon Spirit Link Totem and / or Healing Tide Totem Icon Healing Tide Totem.

Use Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem after Burning Cataclysm Icon Burning Cataclysm in order to get your raid back to DPSing Wrathion as soon as possible. This is especially important in Mythic, where everyone will get a stacking slowing debuff while moving, which can quickly kill you at 50 stacks. Make sure to move as little as possible.

For more information, please refer to our Wrathion, the Black Emperor guide.

4.

Maut

We advise you to use the following essences against Maut.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
4.1.

Tips

Save all your Mana and cooldowns for Phase 2, where raid damage will be spiking extremely hard, due to the damage reflection effect on the boss. Pay attention to players targeted by Drain Essence Icon Drain Essence and dispel them ASAP.

While dispelling them near your group will cause extra raid damage, each second the debuff ticks will give 1% Mana to the boss, making it that much harder to kill the shield and causing this phase to be even longer, especially on Mythic.

For Mythic Maut, there is also a new debuff called Ancient Curse Icon Ancient Curse, which is applied to everyone in the raid periodically. If allowed to last for its full duration, it will instantly kill the affected player. Have players run into the Devoured Abyss Icon Devoured Abyss void zones to instantly remove it, and decurse whoever is not able to do it in time, usually the tanks. Because removing this curse causes raid damage, prepare cooldowns and big heals for when it is applied.

For more information, please refer to our Maut guide.

5.

The Prophet Skitra

We advise you to use the following essences against The Prophet Skitra.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
5.1.

Tips

Use your crowd control abilities: Earthgrab Totem Icon Earthgrab Totem, Earthbind Totem Icon Earthbind Totem and Capacitor Totem Icon Capacitor Totem all work on the illusions spawned by the boss.

Save your cooldowns for intermissions, which occur every 33% of Skitra's Health, especially for the end of them where damage on the raid ramps up dramatically.

The only Mythic mechanic change is that the Shred Psyche Icon Shred Psyche add can only be seen (and killed) by half of the raid, which might cause it to deal more damage than it would usually be able to.

For more information, please refer to our The Prophet Skitra guide.

6.

Dark Inquisitor Xanesh

We advise you to use the following essences against Dark Inquisitor Xanesh.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
6.1.

Tips

Make sure targets of Soul Flay Icon Soul Flay are full Health when the ability goes off. Depending on how far away they are from their soul, they might take deadly damage.

Be ready to play your part in Void Ritual Icon Void Ritual, and keep in mind that people targeted by it will take additional damage over time, which lasts for the whole fight on Mythic difficulty.

Use Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem to help the raid quickly move into the safe zones when Torment is cast.

For more information, please refer to our Dark Inquisitor Xanesh guide.

7.

The Hivemind

We advise you to use the following essences against The Hivemind.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
7.1.

Tips

Use your cooldowns during raid damage ability overlaps. The first overlap starts at 70 seconds into the fight. Bosses swap control and Devouring Frenzy Icon Devouring Frenzy occurs, immediately followed by Echoing Void Icon Echoing Void and Spawn Acidic Aqir Icon Spawn Acidic Aqir. There will be another Echoing Void Icon Echoing Void and Spawn Acidic Aqir Icon Spawn Acidic Aqir overlap at 2 minutes and 45s, so make sure you are ready for it.

Feel free to stun / root / slow the Aqir Darters when they are grouped under the bosses, in order to reduce raid damage taken.

In Mythic difficulty, remember to move out of the Entropic Echo Icon Entropic Echo zones left by Echoing Void Icon Echoing Void, or you will be impossible to heal for a few seconds afterwards.

For more information, please refer to our The Hivemind guide.

8.

Shad'har the Insatiable

We advise you to use the following essences against Shad'har the Insatiable.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
8.1.

Tips

Be ready to spot heal anyone who gets hit with Debilitating Spit Icon Debilitating Spit, as they will be taking heavy damage over time, especially if hit with the initial 4-stack application. Use a personal cooldown or Healthstone Icon Healthstone if it lands on you.

Damage on the fight scales immensely as it goes on. You will want to pace Mana usage accordingly, saving the majority of it for last 30%. Try to use all your cooldowns together towards the end, if at all possible and not assigned to do so earlier.

On Mythic, Phase 2 is the most dangerous phase due to large damage intake, combined with significant healing reduction on part of your raid. Make sure to use some cooldowns and big heals to tidy your group through, especially near the transition to the final Phase.

For more information, please refer to our Shad'har the Insatiable guide.

9.

Drest'agath

We advise you to use the following essences against Drest'agath.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
9.1.

Tips

Throes of Agony will inflict massive raid damage when cast, making it a perfect time to use healing cooldowns and big heals.

Make sure to track the Mutterings of Insanity Icon Mutterings of Insanity debuff, as you need to dispel it as soon as it goes off, especially if it lands on other healers. If it is cast on you, use Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf to avoid being slowed while moving to a safe location.

On Mythic difficulty, add deaths cause other adds of the same type to use their dangerous special abilities (Errant Blast Icon Errant Blast, Reality Tear Icon Reality Tear and Spine Eruption Icon Spine Eruption). This means you will have to be prepared to dodge these more often and always be ready to heal players who get hit.

For more information, please refer to our Drest'agath guide.

10.

Vexiona

We advise you to use the following essences against Vexiona.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
10.1.

Tips

Make sure the tank is at full health before Shattered Resolve Icon Shattered Resolve expires, as the resulting damage can one shot most of your group, otherwise.

Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem is great to help your group avoid the Twilight Decimator breaths during Phase 2 of the fight, and also in Phase 3 on Mythic difficulty.

You can use Tremor Totem Icon Tremor Totem to remove any fears caused by Heart of Darkness, just make sure to use it ahead of time if you think you will be feared yourself.

For more information, please refer to our Vexiona guide.

11.

Ra-den the Despoiled

We advise you to use the following essences against Ra-den the Despoiled.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
11.1.

Tips

On Mythic, you will require a lot of coordination in your group to ensure that all mechanics are properly soaked by different groups of players without deaths. Use Method Ra'den Groups WeakAura to make this assignment easier.

Each orb hitting the boss will cause a burst of raid damage, so have your big heals, cooldowns, and Cloudburst Totem Icon Cloudburst Totem prepared. This is doubly important in Mythic, as there will be two orbs hitting the boss in a short time period, which could easily cause deaths.

The final phase, starting at 40%, is a DPS and Healing race with massive damage. It could be good to adopt a Battle Shaman playstyle, conserving as much Mana as possible and focusing on DPS until this period, at which point you go all out with your Mana pool.

Make sure to track Corrupted Existence Icon Corrupted Existence on your frames for the final phase on Mythic, as fully healing the players affected will instantly kill them, instead.

For more information, please refer to our Ra-den the Despoiled guide.

12.

Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn

We advise you to use the following essences against Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
12.1.

Tips

Use Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem to help your group quickly spread out for Cursed Blood, Wind Shear Icon Wind Shear to interrupt Pumping Blood, and Earthbind Totem Icon Earthbind Totem or Earthgrab Totem Icon Earthgrab Totem to control the adds.

In Mythic difficulty, the most popular strategy is to ignore the Cursed Blood debuff and just heal through the damage. While this greatly simplifies the strategy involved in the encounter, it also makes most of our area of effect kit useless, as it will be hard to get Chain Heal Icon Chain Heal jumps.

Adapt to this boss by picking single-target oriented talents, but remember also that you can use the time at which your circle is diminishing to temporarily make yourself a conduit to bounce Chain Heal Icon Chain Heal, and you can also make good use of it whenever you see a clump of players, which will often be the case during intermission phases.

For more information, please refer to our Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn guide.

13.

Carapace of N'Zoth

We advise you to use the following essences against Carapace of N'Zoth.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
13.1.

Tips

Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem is great to increase your group's speed in all phases, so that you can position for tentacles in Phase 1, go through your side area in Phase 2, and spread out timely in Phase 3.

The Gaze of Madness adds need to be killed quickly, as otherwise their damage (and Sanity damage) inflicted will quickly get out of control. Make sure to interrupt their Breed Madness Icon Breed Madness cast when there are around 4 seconds left on the timer to avoid deaths, while also keeping their Deepening Madness Icon Deepening Madness buff at a minimum.

In Mythic, the final phase inside N'Zoth is considerably more complex, due to the boss having much more health going into it, which will force your group to have multiple ways to speed up as a group past the huge Infinite Darkness void zone.

Make sure to have Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem and Lightfoot Potion Icon Lightfoot Potion (as well as Warlock gateways) ready, lest you get caught and killed. Also, if you ever get affected by Adaptive Membrane Icon Adaptive Membrane, go into the void zone, face the raid, and use Astral Shift Icon Astral Shift, so that you can break it safely, generating Sanity orbs for your raid in the process.

For more information, please refer to our Carapace of N'Zoth guide.

14.

N'Zoth the Corruptor

We advise you to use the following essences against N'Zoth the Corruptor.

  • Major Slot
    • Vision of Perfection — Rank 3: Vision of Perfection Icon Vision of Perfection + Strive for Perfection Icon Strive for Perfection
  • Minor Slots
    • The Formless Void — Rank 3: Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence
    • Conflict and Strife — Rank 3: Strife Icon Strife
    • The Ever Rising Tide — Rank 3: The Ever-Rising Tide Icon The Ever-Rising Tide
14.1.

Tips

Make sure to dispel the multiple debuffs present in this fight as quickly as possible, especially Corrupted Mind Icon Corrupted Mind, which deals Sanity damage if not dispelled in time.

Pre-spread for Paranoia Icon Paranoia casts, and make sure to run to your linked target as fast as possible, avoiding other players in the way, if possible, but survival is paramount, especially now that you can only lose 5 Sanity maximum per second, no matter how many players you come into contact with.

Look at your character when Mindgrasp Icon Mindgrasp is happening: the direction towards which the void tendrils coming out of you are pointing indicates the direction towards which you will be getting pushed. Make sure to move as far as possible in the opposite direction before this happens.

On Mythic difficulty, the boss immediately starts in Phase 2 with multiple tentacles spawning across the boss room. You will want to set up two groups to head into Mindgate Icon Mindgate, while leaving plenty of people outside so that you are not overrun by tentacles and raid damage.

Interrupt the Corruptor Tentacle adds as much as possible and make space for two rows of players to be away from the Mindgrasp Icon Mindgrasp pull. This is especially important in the final phase, when expanding Evoke Anguish Icon Evoke Anguish pools might creep beneath players who are too near them, causing deaths or mind controls.

Use Spiritwalker's Grace Icon Spiritwalker's Grace to keep healing and Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem to help your group position after Evoke Anguish Icon Evoke Anguish casts: dropping them properly and avoiding excess damage from being too close to other players is critical to survival!

Finally, the Stupefying Glare Icon Stupefying Glare beams can often be very hard to avoid. They hit very hard but, more importantly, fear players caught within, usually into void zones that finish them off. Use Tremor Totem Icon Tremor Totem when the lasers are about to start casting, in order to maximize your group's chances.

Two weak auras that can help your group with this fight are Method's N'Zoth compilation and Method's Sanity checker, so that you can keep track of Sanity and the neck uses remaining in your group.

For more information, please refer to our N'Zoth the Corruptor guide.
