The Unshackled / The Waveblade Ankoan Reputation and Rewards Guide in Battle for Azeroth (BfA 8.3)
The Unshackled are a Horde faction introduced in Patch 8.2 — Rise Of Azshara; the Ankoan Waveblade are the Alliance counterpart of this faction. You will be leveling this reputation mainly within the Nazjatar zone.
You will need to hit revered with this faction in order to complete Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part Two, which allows flying in Kul Tiras, Zandalar, Mechagon, and Nazjatar.
These two factions function in exactly the same way when it comes to gaining reputation, the only difference is their name and where the Quartermaster is located (Mezzamere for Alliance and Newhome for Horde). For this reason, we decided to cover them in this single guide, in which we will go through the different ways for you to gain reputation to reach exalted and the various rewards you can earn.
How to Gain Reputation with the Unshackled / Waveblade Ankoan
Nazjatar Storyline
The first thing that a player can do to obtain reputation with these factions is complete the main quest lines and advance the story of Nazjatar. You will be rewarded reputation upon completion of each quest.
Daily Quests
Players will have the chance to participate in a series of world quests that take place all over Nazjatar, with each rewarding you with reputation.
Players that complete the Summons from the Depths event for the first time each day will be awarded with the Abyssal Conch, which can be redeemed for reputation with The Unshackled / Waveblade Ankoan. Completing the event 10 times is required for the Back to the Depths! achievement, which is part of the Undersea Usurper meta achievement. This achievement awards you with the Snapback Scuttler mount.
Emissaries
Emissaries have become an integral part of daily world content in Battle For Azeroth. Players will be receive an emissary quest from 1 of the 7 reputations that the faction has access to. In order to complete these quests, players will need to have completed 4 world quests, which then awards the player with reputation with that faction. When players complete these emissary quests, they will be awarded 1,500 reputation for the faction the quests were for.
Rare Spawns
In Nazjatar, there will be a total of 40 rares that will spawn randomly across the zone and these rare spawns can be killed once per day for some loot and a total of 50 reputation. In order to earn the I Thought You Said They'd Be Rare? achievement, you will need to have killed every rare elite that spawns within Nazjatar. This achievement is part of the Undersea Usurper achievement, which will reward players with the Snapback Scuttler once it has been completed.
Chest World Quests
Players that complete the main storyline in Nazjatar will unlock a daily hub of world quests to complete. Players can also unlock a new additional set of world quests called Chest World Quests. In order for players to unlock this, they will need to pick up the Scrying Stones quest in New Home. They will be introduced to Scrying Stone and, once the quest is completed, players will be given their own Scrying Stone to locate hidden treasures found all over Nazjatar.
Players will locate a Silver Knife item within their first few treasures that they locate. This item will begin a short questline which, once completed, will have unlocked Chest World Quests.
Bodyguard Leveling
Once players have unlocked the bodyguard system in Nazjatar by raising their bodyguards to Level 5 or higher, they will be given a cache which will contain Vibrant Sea Blossom. This item will grant you 400 reputation.
Zone Events
Summons From the Depths
In Nazjatar, Naga will start to channel a ritual to summon a powerful being. As this occurs, a message will be displayed across the zone and a skull will appear on your map. This will be your notice that the event has started. There are 2 different phases, with the final stage featuring a large enemy that players must kill.
The Battle For Nazjatar
Players will occasionally be able to participate in a PvP world quest called PvP Event: Battle for Nazjatar. It will appear randomly in Nazjatar, but only if you have War Mode turned on.
If there are not enough players in both factions or they are very unbalanced at the start of the event, Azshara's Elite Commanders will spawn instead, which you can kill for Nazjatar Battle Commendation.
Take note that you must get at least one honorable kill for the duration of the event in order to get eligible for the rewards. Players who win this event are awarded with 5 Nazjatar Battle Commendation and 100 Conquest points. If you lose the event, you are given only one Nazjatar Battle Commendation and 25 Conquest points. Completion of this event, whether you lose or win, will reward Horde players with 500 reputation with The Unshackled and Alliance players with the same for the Waveblade Ankoan.
The Laboratory of Mardivas
As players begin to explore the zone of Nazjatar, they may come across a Lesser Benthic Arcanocrystal from opening treasure chests. Once a player obtains this item, they will be prompted to ahead towards The Laboratory of Mardivas, located here:
.Players who complete this quest will be able to pick up The Laboratory of Mardivas, which requires you to empower either Lesser Arcanocrystals or a Greater Arcanocrystal, then kill an enemy. Players can empower these stones with Strange Mineralized Water, Strange Volcanic Rock, and Strange Oceanic Sediment.
Having both a lesser and greater Arcanocrystal activated will increase the rewards the player will receive. Defeating the summoned enemy rewards the player with reputation, as well as receiving 500 reputation from turning in the quest and progress towards the Periodic Destruction achievement.
You can repeat the quest inside the Laboratory once per week.
Pet Battles
Across Nazjatar, players will be able to encounter pet elites. In total, players will be able to encounter 12 elite pets that can be challenged. When players defeat an elite pet for the first time, they will be awarded an item that can be exchanged for 250 reputation. Players that can successfully defeat all 12 pets can earn a total of 3000 reputation.
Contracts
Players who obtain Contract: Ankoan ( Alliance) or Contract: Unshackled ( Horde) will be rewarded with 10 bonus reputation with the faction when they are completing world quests in either Kul Tiras or Zandalar. The only requirement to use the contract is to be friendly with the faction the player is choosing them for.
Currencies and Vendors
New Currency: Prismatic Manapearls
A new currency called Prismatic Manapearl arrives in Patch 8.2 and is used to buy various items, such as Essences and Benthic Armor. You can farm this new currency by locating hidden treasure chests, killing rares within Nazjatar, and completing world quests. In order to obtain the Snapback Scuttler mount, you will need the A Fistful of Manapearls achievement, which is also a component of the Undersea Usurper meta achievement.
New Vendor: Mrrl
Players in Nazjatar can locate the new vendor lying on the ground in The Royal Approach area. Mrrl is a new Murloc vendor who will have a variety of exotic goods which are rotated daily. There is a quest called A Safer Place that players can pick up from Mrrl. You will need to escort him back to Newhome. Once completed, Mrrl will set up the shop and goods can be purchased from him.
Players who have obtained Azsh'ari Stormsurger Cape will have access to a menu of secret items they can purchase, such as Shadow-Cloaked Shell, which can be turned into the Abyssal Conch ( Alliance) or Abyssal Conch ( Horde). Players with the cloak who visit Mrrl every day day will find that they can purchase the mount Crimson Tidestallion. Doing this will reward players with Mrrl's Secret Stash.
Quartermasters and Rewards
Alliance Players will need to seek out Speaker Utia, the Ankoan Waveblade Quartermaster, for reputation rewards. She is be located in Mezzamere, in Nazjatar.
Horde Players will need to seek out Atolia Seapearl, the Unshackled Quartermaster, for reputation rewards. She is located in Newhome in Nazjatar
