Unholy Shards of Domination Guide for Patch 9.2 (9.2)

Blizzard confirmed that Shards of Domination will be disabled in Patch 9.2 content, meaning they will not work in Zereth Mortis, Sepulcher of the First Ones, PvP, and dungeons. They will still work within Torghast wings including the new Jailer's Gauntlet challenge wing, however.

Patch 9.1 introduces 3 Unholy Shards of Domination to the game. They are unique-equipped, so you cannot equip the same shard twice.

• Shard of Dyz — Damaging a target increases your damage done to the target by 0.25% for 4 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
• Shard of Oth — Your Speed is increased by 30.
• Shard of Zed — Your helpful spells and abilities have a chance to grant your target an Unholy Aura, draining 166 health from nearby enemies every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.

We know Shards drop from bosses in the Sanctum of Domination, but Blizzard has not yet put out any information on how exactly that is supposed to work, whether they will be personal loot like Conduits in Castle Nathria, or whether they are actual physical items like relics were in Legion.

You must socket 3 Unholy Shards into your Domination gear to activate Chaos Bane, a powerful 3-piece set bonus.

• Chaos Bane — While inside The Maw or Torghast, your abilities have a chance to drain a Soul Fragment from your target, granting you 10 Primary stat for 30 seconds and stacking up to 15 times. When you reach 15 stacks, unleash Chaos Bane, dealing 1,500 Shadow damage split between nearby enemies and grating you 300 Primary stat for 15 seconds.

Shards of Domination can be further upgraded to Rank 5 by talking to Bonesmith Heirmir in Korthia. You will need 100 Stygian Embers to fully upgrade your Shard of Domination to Rank 5.

• Rank 2 upgrade costs 5 Stygian Embers.
• Rank 3 upgrade costs 15 Stygian Embers.
• Rank 4 upgrade costs 30 Stygian Embers.
• Rank 5 upgrade costs 50 Stygian Embers.

The following section covers upgrade ranks for each Unholy shard.

• Shard of Dyz (Rank 1) — Damaging a target increases your damage done to the target by 0.25% for 4 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
• Ominous Shard of Dyz (Rank 2) — Damaging a target increases your damage done to the target by 0.31% for 4 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
• Desolate Shard of Dyz (Rank 3) — Damaging a target increases your damage done to the target by 0.37% for 4 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
• Foreboding Shard of Dyz (Rank 4) — Damaging a target increases your damage done to the target by 0.44% for 4 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
• Portentous Shard of Dyz (Rank 5) — Damaging a target increases your damage done to the target by 0.5% for 4 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.

• Shard of Oth (Rank 1) — Your Speed is increased by 30.
• Ominous Shard of Oth (Rank 2) — Your Speed is increased by 37.
• Desolate Shard of Oth (Rank 3) — Your Speed is increased by 45.
• Foreboding Shard of Oth (Rank 4) — Your Speed is increased by 52.
• Portentous Shard of Oth (Rank 5) — Your Speed is increased by 60.

• Shard of Zed (Rank 1) — Your helpful spells and abilities have a chance to grant your target an Unholy Aura, draining 166 health from nearby enemies every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.
• Ominous Shard of Zed (Rank 2) — Your helpful spells and abilities have a chance to grant your target an Unholy Aura, draining 208 health from nearby enemies every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.
• Desolate Shard of Zed (Rank 3) — Your helpful spells and abilities have a chance to grant your target an Unholy Aura, draining 250 health from nearby enemies every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.
• Foreboding Shard of Zed (Rank 4) — Your helpful spells and abilities have a chance to grant your target an Unholy Aura, draining 292 health from nearby enemies every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.
• Portentous Shard of Zed (Rank 5) — Your helpful spells and abilities have a chance to grant your target an Unholy Aura, draining 334 health from nearby enemies every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.
