Lore
Ursoc is one of the first bosses in the Emerald Nightmare Raid Instance.
Ursoc is one of the Wild Gods. Patron of the Furbolg, and closely linked to the druidic power of shapeshifting, the ancient great bear has long been a protector of Azeroth. But as Ursoc slumbered at his shrine in the Grizzly Hills, the world around him was plunged into corruption, and he awoke to torment and nightmare, consuming and twisting his being.
Outline
Ursoc is a quite straightfoward fight where his damage will ramp up over time. Your raid will have to deal with a handful of abilities in order to defeat him. Here is a preview of the fight from the Legion Alpha/Beta.
TLDR
Below is a TL;DR of how to handle Ursoc's abilities. This should be used to familiarize yourself with the boss' abilities, and not as a blueprint for success.
Tanks
- Tank swap immediately after every cast of Overwhelm and Rend Flesh (explanations here).
- Heroic/Mythic — when Ursoc casts Roaring Cacophony move the boss away from the resulting Miasma void zone.
Healers
- Expect damage to ramp up throughout the fight.
- Be sure to have healing cooldowns for when Ursoc reaches 30% health and soft enrages.
DPS
- Mythic — Pool your resources to kill the Nightmare Image before the next cast of Roaring Cacophony.
Everyone
- Stand in Ursoc's path when he is preparing to charge for Focused Gaze to reduce incoming damage from Barreling Impact, unless already debuffed by Momentum. Basically, have two groups to soak the ability and take turns.
- When targeted by Focused Gaze move as far away from Ursoc as possible to reduce your damage taken from Trampling Slam and make sure there is a group of players between you and the boss. Walk in a straight line towards the middle of the room, to avoid confusing your fellow raiders (avoid strafing).
- Roaring Cacophony can be handled by just the tanks and melee players at the beginning, but its damage ramping up, you will need all players soaking by the end of the fight.
- Make sure to have cooldowns available for the Blood Frenzy part of the fight when Ursoc soft-enrages at 30% health.
- Heroic/Mythic — Ensure you do not stand in the Miasma void zones from the Nightmare Images.
- Heroic/Mythic — Roaring Cacophony's radius being quite large, make use of it. Move out of it immediately after the cast finishes, to avoid taking damage from Miasma.
- Mythic — Kill the Nightmare Image before the next cast of Roaring Cacophony.
