Best Hero Talents for Vengeance Demon Hunter in The War Within

This page is specifically about Hero Talents in The War Within. If you want to learn more about the best regular talents for Vengeance Demon Hunter, check out our Talents page:

1.1.

Raiding Hero Talents for Vengeance Demon Hunter

1.1.1.

Aldrachi Reaver

Aldrachi Reaver offers good single-target damage while also offering strong defensive benefits, especially through Wounded Quarry Icon Wounded Quarry, which increases Soul Fragment Icon Soul Fragment generation significantly in Single-Target situations and Thrill of the Fight Icon Thrill of the Fight increasing healing by 20% with a fairly high uptime. After some nerfs, specifically putting Reaver's Glaive Icon Reaver's Glaive on the global cooldown, Aldrachi is currently underperforming offensively in all target settings.

1.1.2.

Fel-Scarred

Fel-Scarred is currently ahead offensively in all target counts but falls slightly behind defensively in raid since it heavily relies on using your main mitigation tools aggressively. However, it could see especially good value on fights that require frequent AoE bursts.

1.2.

Mythic+ Hero Talents for Vengeance Demon Hunter

1.2.1.

Aldrachi Reaver

Aldrachi Reaver has strong potential in Mythic+, especially in higher keys. It deals the most single-target damage and offers strong healing bonuses from Incorruptible Spirit Icon Incorruptible Spirit, Thrill of the Fight Icon Thrill of the Fight, and Wounded Quarry Icon Wounded Quarry. While it does less overall damage than Fel-Scarred, it still deals a respectable amount without having to commit your strongest defensives as offensive tools. The biggest drawback to Aldrachi Reaver is that due to Wounded Quarry Icon Wounded Quarry, target swapping comes with a significant power loss, and general uptime is significantly more important to keep generating Soul Fragment Icon Soul Fragments to keep the Reaver's Glaive Icon Reaver's Glaive coming.

1.2.2.

Fel-Scarred

Fel-Scarred especially shines in situations with many enemies while still winning offensively against bosses. A strong option for Mythic+ in all key levels. While not offering as much healing as Aldrachi Reaver, it does offer strong mitigation tools in Set Fire to the Pain Icon Set Fire to the Pain, Enduring Torment Icon Enduring Torment, and Student of Suffering Icon Student of Suffering as well as higher uptime on Metamorphosis Icon Metamorphosis and Sigil of Flame Icon Sigil of Flame.

Best Hero Talent Builds for Vengeance Demon Hunter

3.

Best Aldrachi Reaver Single-Target Build for Vengeance Demon Hunter

Aldrachi Reaver does unfortunately not give many choices; you will want to use Unhindered Assault Icon Unhindered Assault, Incorruptible Spirit Icon Incorruptible Spirit, and Keen Engagement Icon Keen Engagement in all content since the other choice nodes are generally worse in any situation.

3.

Best Aldrachi Reaver Mythic+ Build for Vengeance Demon Hunter

Aldrachi Reaver in Mythic+ picks all the same options on the Hero Talent Tree as you would for raid, changes will instead be focused in your Class and Spec Talents.

3.

Best Fel-Scarred Mythic+ Build for Vengeance Demon Hunter

Fel-Scarred has three choice nodes, which are straightforward. You always choose Set Fire to the Pain Icon Set Fire to the Pain and Student of Suffering Icon Student of Suffering. In Mythic+, your last choice is Wave of Debilitation Icon Wave of Debilitation. For raid, you can instead choose to run Pursuit of Angriness Icon Pursuit of Angriness for a minimal speed increase if there are no adds to hit with Chaos Nova Icon Chaos Nova.

2.1.

Hero Talents Rotation for Vengeance Demon Hunter

2.1.1.

Aldrachi Reaver

Aldrachi Reaver focuses around activating your Reaver's Glaive Icon Reaver's Glaive either through using The Hunt Icon The Hunt or consuming 20 Soul Fragments. Once used Reaver's Glaive Icon Reaver's Glaive empowers your next Shear Icon Shear/Fracture Icon Fracture and your next Soul Cleave Icon Soul Cleave. As of current tuning, you always want to make sure to use an empowered Shear Icon Shear/Fracture Icon Fracture before you use the Soul Cleave Icon Soul Cleave. You do this because the damage increase from Reaver's Mark Icon Reaver's Mark stacks even if the stacks come from separate activations, so you still end up with a significant uptime on 14% more damage against your main target, making the extra hits from Fury of the Aldrachi Icon Fury of the Aldrachi more powerful.

The gameplay in general as Aldrachi Reaver focuses significantly on generating as many Soul Fragment Icon Soul Fragments as possible to activate Reaver's Glaive Icon Reaver's Glaive as often as possible. Because of Wounded Quarry Icon Wounded Quarry, it becomes even more important to have uptime on your target, and switching targets should be avoided as much as possible unless you have a Reaver's Glaive Icon Reaver's Glaive available.

2.1.2.

Fel-Scarred

Fel-Scarred plays significantly closer to standard Vengeance, with only major differences surrounding your Metamorphosis Icon Metamorphosis windows. This means that you want to have 4 or more Soul Fragment Icon Soul Fragment available when casting Fel Devastation Icon Fel Devastation so that you can activate Demonsurge Icon Demonsurge with Spirit Bomb Icon Spirit Bomb and Soul Cleave Icon Soul Cleave more easily. Because of Violent Transformation Icon Violent Transformation it is important to have Fel Devastation Icon Fel Devastation and Sigil of Flame Icon Sigil of Flame at cooldown with zero charges to maximize the gain. It is worth noting that casting Metamorphosis Icon Metamorphosis while still having Demonsurge Icon Demonsurge-empowered spells available from Fel Devastation Icon Fel Devastation will waste those empowered charges.
