Anby Demara Guide and Best Builds for Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ)
Introduction - Anby Demara
Anby Demara is an A-Rank Slash Electric Stun Agent in Zenless Zone Zero. She appears to have no history or past to speak of, but her fighting expertise says otherwise. A lover of movies and hamburgers, Anby belongs to the Cunning Hares faction, alongside Nicole Demara, Billy Kid, and Nekomata.
Please Note: This Anby Demara is different from the Agent Soldier 0 - Anby. The guide below is specifically for the A-Rank Electric Stun Agent Anby Demara.
This isn't true, I never take fictional stories seriously. For example, I know the Starlight Knight isn't real, putting on their belts and shouting "Transform!" to gain superpowers... Obviously you'd need to be bitten by a mutant insect for that.

Anby Demara's Best Mindscapes
In general, completing Anby's Mindscape Cinema should be prioritized if players want to get the most out of her kit. While she is playable without any upgrades, players may find M0 Anby struggling without any sources of extra Energy Regen for her EX Special Attacks. Her EX Special Attack is the best and fastest way to stun enemies, so any sources to help with Energy Generation, Impact or Daze Buildup, or her overall DMG will be greatly beneficial.
Looking over Anby's Mindscape Cinema, her best Mindscape is theoretically her M5: Street Experience. While Anby's M6: Charging Field is appealing for anyone who wants her to do high damage, her earlier Mindscape Cinema upgrades will provide a larger quality-of-life to her gameplay: more Energy Generation per attack per Agent means more EX Special Attacks overall per minute, and therefore, enemies will get stunned faster.
For example, getting Anby's M1: Rapid Charge Mode will help increase the Energy Generation Rate, but it is only good if you do not do a Basic Attack (Hold): Thunderbolt. The Energy Generation only applies after the 4th hit of the Basic Attack Combo. This Mindscape is only appealing if Anby is having trouble with building enough Energy, or if they already have her M4: Conducting Charge. In addition, Anby's M4: Conducting Charge helps off-field Electric Agent in the squad gain more energy, but will not affect Anby herself.
On the other hand, Anby's M5: Street Experience increases the DMG and Daze Multipliers for all skills that help Anby stun enemies faster. While she still has high multipliers at Lv.12 of each skill, her M5 will help scale the values by a decent amount, increasing her DMG and Daze output further than what she has available at M0 and M3.
# | Mindscape | Description |
---|---|---|
M1 | Rapid Charge Mode | When the 4th hit of Anby's Basic Attack hits an enemy, her Energy Generation Rate is increased by 12% for 30s. |
M2 | Precision Discharge | When Basic Attack: Thunderbolt hits a Stunned enemy, its DMG is increased by 30%. When Anby's EX Special Attack hits an enemy that is not Stunned, the Daze inflicted is increased by 10%. |
M3 | Well-Disciplined | Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2. |
M4 | Conducting Charge | When Anby launches a Chain Attack or uses her Ultimate, off-field Electric characters recover 3 Energy. For every 12% Energy Generation Rate Anby has, recover an additional 2 Energy, up to a maximum of 6. |
M5 | Street Experience | Basic Attack, Dodge, Assist, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2. |
M6 | Charging Field | When Anby uses her EX Special Attack, she gains 8 stacks of Charge (max 8 stacks). When she hits an enemy with her Basic Attack or Dash Attack, 1 stack of Charge is consumed, increasing that attack's DMG by 45%. |

How to Play Anby Demara
Basic Overview
As a Stun Agent, Anby's primary goal is to accumulate enough Daze on enemies, causing them to become stunned for a period of time. She can do this effectively because her skills have a higher Daze buildup per attack than other Agent Types.
Anby's bread-and-butter combo is entirely based on her Core Passive: Fluctuating Voltage. To summarize, in order for Anby's combo to have an extra Daze buildup, she needs to be on-field and must execute any of the following after 3 Basic Attacks:
- Basic Attack: Thunderbolt (Hold Basic Attack)
- Special Attack: Fork Lightning
- EX Special Attack: Lightning Bolt
She can only perform an EX Special if she has at least 60 Energy or higher. Her Energy gauge can be tracked on-screen during combat. Without enough energy, she will only do a Special Attack instead. In gameplay, playing Anby may look something like any of the following:
- Basic Attack (1st) > Basic Attack (2nd) > Basic Attack (3rd) > EX Special Attack > ...
- Basic Attack (1st) > Basic Attack (2nd) > Basic Attack (3rd) > Basic Attack (Hold) > ...
And then subsequently repeat the gameplay combo until the enemies become stunned.
If players do not do the above combos correctly, they may find it difficult to stun and kill enemies as fast as possible. In addition, Anby will perform significantly better than other Stun Agents when fighting against enemies that are weak to Electric DMG.
Why stun with Anby's EX Special Attack?
Ideally, Anby prioritizes using her EX Special Attack: Lightning Bolt over Basic Attack: Thunderbolt or Special Attack: Fork Lightning to stun enemies. This is because Lightning Bolt has a higher DMG and Daze Multiplier than either her Special Attack or her Basic Attack.
Skill Name | DMG Multiplier | Daze Multiplier |
---|---|---|
EX Special Attack: Lightning Bolt |
|
|
Basic Attack (Hold): Thunderbolt |
|
|
Special Attack: Fork Lightning |
|
|
With additional Mindscape Cinemas (M3: Well-Disciplined and M5: Street Experience respectively), Anby can hit a higher DMG and Daze Multiplier potential, up to a maximum skill level of Lv.15 at M5. Based on the M0 data above, which is sorted in Descending order of Multiplier Values, players can see the following:
- At Lv.12, the Highest DMG Multiplier is EX Special Attack, followed by Basic Attack (Hold)
- At Lv.12, the Highest Daze Multiplier is EX Special Attack, followed by Basic Attack (Hold)
- EX Special's DMG Multiplier is approximately 77% higher than the Basic Attack's DMG Multiplier
- EX Special's Daze Multiplier is approximately 237% higher than the Basic Attack's Daze Multiplier
As a result, if Anby does her Special Attack without any Energy, using Fork Lightning instead, she will effectively be doing less DMG and Daze overall compared to just doing a Basic Attack (Hold). Even if the player's Anby is not built yet, Anby's Lv.1 EX Special Attack will still outperform most Basic Attack upgrades (if not all).
So in an ideal scenario, for Anby to do her stun combo efficiently, players should only play Anby if she has enough energy for an EX Special. If she does not have enough energy, but the enemy is close to being stunned, players can opt to do another Basic Attack Combo and end with a Basic Attack (Hold). She should only be on-field if there are enemies that need to be stunned.
After stunning enemies, Anby should cause a Chain Attack to occur, which is when players should swap her out with an Agent who will deal higher damage (ie. an Attack or Anomaly Agent).

S-Rank W-Engine Recommendation: The Restrained
Of the S-Rank W-Engines currently available, the most compatible one for Anby is The Restrained. This W-Engine not only increases her Impact and DMG, but it also provides the highest amount of Daze from dealing Basic Attacks. As Anby relies heavily on her EX Special and Basic Attack: Thunderbolt to stun enemies, using this W-Engine will help close the DMG gap between the two skills.
Players may also consider Hellfire Gears as an Energy Regen alternative, if they struggle with generating enough Energy for Anby's EX Special. However, keep in mind that though both W-Engines will have the same base Impact at Lv.60, Hellfire Gears's effect only increases your Impact by 20% (W0) to 40% (W5), which will only affect the Daze applied to enemies. Whereas with The Restrained, both the DMG and Daze can be increased up to 30% (W0) to 60% (W5).
The Energy Regen increase from Hellfire Gears is not the same stat as Energy Generation Rate. So while it may be beneficial for Anby's general gameplay, this will not assist with the conditions for Anby's M6: Conducting Charge.
A-Rank Alternatives
Currently, while most Stun W-Engines perform just about the same, there are a few notable alternatives that players may consider if they do not have the ones recommended above. For example, of the W-Engines below:
- Blazing Laurel has the highest Impact stat available on a W-Engine at the moment. However, Anby cannot apply all Wilt stacks in a single Basic Attack combo, and she does not benefit from the Ice or Fire CRIT DMG increases either. This W-Engine's benefits are heavily reliant on who you include in Anby's squad.
- Similar to the Blazing Laurel, running Ice-Jade Teapot on Anby will equally be a challenge. Requiring at least 15-30 Basic Attacks for the DMG buff activation, Anby will need significant time attacking on-field to make this W-Engine work.
- Steam Oven is a solid choice for an A-Rank, as it provides both Energy Regen (for faster EX Specials) and an average of 12% (W0) to 19.2% (W5) Impact for every 60 Energy. This is the minimum for an EX Special, but it is comparable to any S-Rank which provides an unconditional 18% Impact.
- Precious Fossilized Core has an Advanced Stat of 15% Impact at Lv.60, and also provides up to 20% (W0) or 36% (W5) additional Impact. As the additional Impact has some fall-off, this W-Engine may feel lackluster to use, but is ultimately a basic W-Engine to use until you obtain better alternatives.
- Anby's Signature W-Engine, the Demara Battery Mark II, is worth a special mention as it not only increases Electric DMG, but it also provides Energy Generation Rate, up to 27.5% at W5. This is great for players who have Anby's M6: Conducting Charge. However, as it is a conditional increase, this effect is only beneficial whenever she enters combat, or is on-field long enough to do a Dodge Counter. If players do not use Anby on-field often, the other W-Engines may be more compatible than her Signature W-Engine.
Anby has a few Drive Disc sets available that she can use effectively, such as the 4-Piece Shockstar Electro or the 4-Piece Thunder Metal. Shockstar Electro is a generic Drive Disc set suitable for any Stun Agent, which includes Anby. However, if players feel that Anby stuns fast enough on her own, she can consider using Thunder Metal to increase her DMG output instead.
Regardless of which 4-Piece Set players choose to use, they should heavily consider using the 2-Piece set from the other option. For example, running both 4-Piece Thunder Metal and 2-Piece Shockstar Electro, or vice versa, ensures Anby will be a strong force on-field, both as an Electric and Stun Agent.
If players want other 2-Piece set alternatives, they can consider the following:
- Swing Jazz will help Anby's EX Specials generate faster
- Chaos Jazz and Freedom Blues have the same effect, so you can use whichever is most available or has better substats. This set only benefits the Anomaly DMG Anby can apply from her Electric attacks.
- Hormone Punk and Astral Voice have the same effect, so you can use whichever is most available or has better substats. This set may have diminishing returns if Anby's equipment has too much ATK% already.
The only priority Advanced Stat that Anby really desires is the Impact you can get from Partition 6 Drive Discs. As her Drive Disc options are fairly flexible, players may want to save their Tuning Calibrators for other Agents instead.
Bangboo Information
Of the Bangboos available, Anby's best options to use in her squads are
either Plugboo or
Electroboo. Anby can activate
the Additional Abilities for both Bangboo, but
Plugboo may
be easier to use, as players will generally want Anby to be attacking enemies
weak to Electric DMG.
Electroboo is the A-Rank option
if players do not have access to
Plugboo yet.
If players are running a faction-based squad instead, they should consider
using the Faction-specific Bangboo over one suggested for Anby. For example, if
players are playing Anby with one other Cunning Hares Agent, they may
consider using Amillion, but this Bangboo's Additional
Ability will not directly increase Anby's DMG specifically.
With Sumoboo, its best Daze application may be difficult
and unreliable to use, so it is only a suggestion if players cannot use the
other Bangboo recommended.

For Anby's squad compositions, she is fairly flexible, as her overall kit is primarily improves her personal Stun and DMG output. The only thing is that the more players invest in Anby, the higher recommendations will be to pair Anby with mono-Electric squads.
In general, Anby will prefer attacking enemies that are Electric weak. If she is paired with enemies weak to other Attributes, players will find she will Daze enemies slower than a Stun Agent more suited for the situation. If players have Anby's M4: Conducting Charge, to maximize on its Energy effect, the rest of Anby's squad should be Electric Agents exclusively, or else no one benefits from her Mindscape Cinema.
As a result, of the squad examples above, players will likely see Anby perform the best with other Electric DPS Agents, such as Asaba Harumasa and Soldier 0 - Anby. However, keep in mind that Anby's most effective way to stun enemies is through her Basic Attack Combo and EX Special, which requires Anby to be on-field for combat. This will take away on-field time from the DPS Agents, and you may experience some rotational issues or lower overall DMG if Anby is on the field for too long.
Currently, the only Electric Support Agent available is Alexandrina Sebastiane, and players should ideally pair an Attack Agent squad with at least 1 Support Agent. However, most of the Support Agents in the game have kits that are universally beneficial, so players can consider just using a Support that is well-invested or easy to use, such as Astra Yao or Seth Lowell. For example, using Caesar King is good for any fights where you will benefit from the Shield she provides.
