Zenless Zone Zero Bangboo Overview
This page gives a general overview of Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero. We cover how to unlock, obtain, and upgrade them, as well as summarizing which Bangboo are currently available in the Monthly Shop and Game Version.
What are Bangboo?
Small Body, Big Helper!
"En-Nah!"
Bangboo are an intelligent device that can assist Agents in combat through additional squad damage or support. They fill the fourth slot in a squad's formation, and Bangboo come in S-Rank and A-Rank Ranks like Agents. However unlike Agents, players cannot control what a Bangboo does, as it will attack and use skills of its own volition. The Bangboo is also always on the field and cannot swap with other Agents in the squad.
Each Bangboo, also known as Combat Bangboo (to differentiate from non-combat models in New Eridu), have their own combat stats and skills. While the base stats are nearly identical to any Agent, the skill sets for each Bangboo are significantly different from both Agents and other Bangboo alike. Each Bangboo can have the following Skills available:
Skill Type | Summary |
---|---|
A: Active Skill |
This skill has a cooldown and will occasionally activate during combat. It may be a unique attack that will damage enemy targets, or a buff for the active Agent or the squad. For some Bangboo, this skill can be placed on the combat field, or requires the Bangboo to come into contact with the target (Enemy or Agent). |
B: Additional Ability |
This ability activates whenever the condition is met. It can provide either additional buffs to the Bangboo's Active Skill or Chain Attack. To fulfill the condition, it may have a certain Faction, Attribute, Type Specialty, or Damage requirement in the squad (such as Amillion, Sharkboo, Booressure, or Boollseye). |
C: Bangboo Chain Attack |
After executing a Squad Chain Attack, Bangboo can follow-up with a Bangboo Chain Attack that deals extra damage to the enemies. This Attack does more damage than the Active Skill, but may not be as frequent due to the Chain Attack condition. Some Bangboo may not have a Bangboo Chain Attack available (see the last section of the page). |
How do you Unlock and Obtain Bangboo?
The earliest method of adding Bangboo to your squad is after you unlock the Bangboo Channel. This is not immediately unlocked with the other Signal Search Channels. Players must progress through Chapter 1: Intermission until you can access the Turbo Remodeling Shop. Afterwards, the Bangboo Channel will be available under the Signal Search Interface.
Regardless of eligibility, players can still earn and receive Boopons prior to unlocking the Bangboo Channel.
Trial Bangboo may also be available in other gameplay modes, such as explorations in Hollow Zero (only after obtaining an Ally Resonium) or certain story commissions in the HDD System.
Signal Searching
Most Bangboo can only be obtained from Signal Searching in the Bangboo Channel. They cannot be obtained through other Signal Search channels such as the Exclusive Channel, W-Engine Channel, and Stable Channel.
In addition, if players signal search a S-Rank Bangboo, it is guaranteed to be the selected Bangboo. For more information on the Bangboo Channel and the S-Rank Guarantee, check out the page below!
What are Boopons?
Players can signal search for Bangboo using currency known as Boopons. Unlike other Signal Search currencies, Boopons cannot be directly obtained through use of Polychromes and Monochromes. However, the amount received in a season of the New Eridu City Fund can be increased by purchasing at least the Growth Plan.
Boopons can be obtained through various in-game sources, such as the following:
- Pre-Registration Milestone Rewards
- HoYoLAB Web Events
- Signal Shop: 50% Off Bangbuck Exchange (Limit 5 Monthly), Bangbuck Exchange (Unlimited)
- Hollow Zero: Weekly Bounty Commissions, First-Time Investigation Bonuses, Investigation License Rewards, and the SCOTT Outpost Shop
- New Eridu City Fund: Basic, Growth, and Premium Plans
- Turbo Remodelling Shop: Bangboo Level Cap Rewards (Lv. 20, 40, 60)
- Event Rewards
With every Version of Zenless Zone Zero, players may have a recurring event called "En-Nah" Into Your Lap. By logging in daily during the event, players can obtain up to 10 Boopons for free. This event may occur once in either the first or second half of the current Version, and may be refreshed in the upcoming Version of the game.
Bangbucks Exchange and the Monthly Shop Rotation
An alternative way to obtain certain A-Rank Bangboo is through the Signal Shop. Found in the Store under the Signal Shop's Bangbuck tab, the two available A-Rank Bangboo models rotate monthly. Currently, the following Bangboo are in the known shop rotation:
Month | Available Bangboo |
---|---|
July | |
August | |
September | |
October | |
November |
However, as Bangbucks are only available through Signal Searching on the Bangboo Channel, they are a fairly limited currency to obtain. In addition, there are more valuable items available monthly in the Bangbuck Exchange, such as the discounted Boopons, Marcel Modified Part, and various upgrade materials.
As such, it is not recommended to spend Bangbucks on A-Rank Bangboo if players have a limited budget.
Events and Gameplay Modes
For certain Bangboo not available through Signal Search, such as Booressure and Luckyboo, players can obtain them through certain events or gameplay modes, such as Friendship Supervision and Hollow Zero.
Signal Search Bangboo may also be offered as Event rewards. For example, in the permanent event, Rookie On The Road provides a free copy of Bagboo after the player progresses through Chapter 1 Intermission of the Main Story.
More information on Event-exclusive Bangboo possibly returning will be provided in later Versions of the game.
Total Upgrade Cost for a Bangboo
Note that Bangboo of both A-Rank and S-Rank will use the same amount of materials. To improve a Bangboo's damage output, players will need to invest a total amount of the following materials:
Category | Total | How to Obtain |
---|---|---|
Inter-Knot Promotion (One-Time) | Legendary Proxy |
|
Total Dennies | 500,000 Dennies |
|
Level 10 -> 60 Bangboo Data EXP (450,000 EXP Total) |
|
|
Level 10 -> 60 System Optimization Level Caps |
|
|
Excess Materials and Substitutions
When upgrading a Bangboo, if there is an excess of materials used, the remainder will be returned. At present, there are no substitutions available for Bangboo materials other than the normal Energy Fluids and Data EXP. To fulfill Level Cap requirements, players can choose to craft or dismantle Energy Fluids based on their Rank. The cost for 1 Energy Fluid of the next grade (A to/from B, or B to/from C) requires 3 of the requisite Fluids and some Dennies.
How do you Upgrade Bangboo?
Players are highly recommended to upgrade Bangboo whenever possible, as their base stats are very comparable to an Agent at a corresponding level. Though players may think that Bangboo are not as capable due to autonomous gameplay, they can provide additional benefits throughout a fight that may not be as apparent as the on-field Agent or squad. For example, some Bangboo can provide Energy Regen, Healing, or Shields to the squad, which may be greatly valued in a squad with no Support, Defense, or self-sustaining Agents.
Being mindful about which S-Rank Bangboo to pick for Signal Searches, such as tailoring them to available squad formations, can also help encourage players to efficiently improve certain Bangboo over others.
After obtaining your first copy of a Bangboo, head over to the Turbo Remodelling Shop, which is right beside the Random Play and Bardic Needle stores on Sixth Street. Here, players can select a Bangboo of the available options, and choose to Level Up, System Optimize, or Core Update the Bangboo.
Bangboo Level Up
Bangboo Data items can provide a Bangboo a set amount of EXP to level up. Based on the amount of Bangboo Data you have, the game can automatically add EXP materials for you until the maximum materials can be selected for the Core level cap.
To level up Bangboo of any Rank, players will need a total amount of 450,000 Bangboo EXP per Bangboo. Bangboo Data, such as the Bangboo System Widgets, Algorithm Modules, and Software Patches, provide Bangboo EXP at varying amounts based on its Rank. Bangboo Data are primarily rewarded through Hollow Zero and New Eridu City Fund, though the A-Rank Bangboo System Widgets can also be obtained through Events.
To obtain more Bangboo Data, players may choose to upgrade their New Eridu City Fund to at least a Growth Plan, or complete Bounty Commissions, achievements, and exchange at Outpost Logistics in Hollow Zero.
System Optimization
When players conduct a System Optimization for Bangboo, they can increase the Bangboo's Level Cap up to Level 60. In doing so, the Bangboo will also receive flat stat increases to their base stats, making them quite comparable to Agents in the squad.
The items required to conduct a System Optimization are Bangboo Energy Fluids. Players will require Fluids of specific ranks to upgrade at certain level caps. These Energy Fluids can be obtained through Hollow Zero, the 141 Convenience Store on Sixth Street, Bangbuck Exchange, as well as through Crafting and Dismantling.
In addition to the stat bonus incentive, optimizations at level caps of 20, 30, and 50 can also provide a refund on Boopons. Up to a total of 3 Boopons per Bangboo can be obtained in this manner.
Due to this benefit, players may find it more efficient to focus on obtaining new, un-obtained Bangboo first, over aiming for additional copies of previously obtained Bangboo.
Core Update
If players receive additional copies of a Bangboo they already own, they can perform a Core Update on the Bangboo, increasing the level of the Bangboo's skills. While this is a very important upgrade to maximize on a Bangboo's damage potential, as there is no other method to level up Bangboo skills, it is also equally as expensive in value.
Players can either obtain another copy of the Bangboo (which may be the cost of 90 Boopons or 200 Bangbucks each), or a Marcel Modified Part (which costs a significant amount of 1,200 Bangbucks). Both options can upgrade a Bangboo's Core Level. To compare with the following information:
- 1st to 5th Copies of a S-Rank Bangboo: 50 Bangbucks each (250 Total)
- 6th Copy of a S-Rank@ Bangboo onwards: 75 Bangbucks each
- 1st to 5th Copies of an A-Rank Bangboo: 10 Bangbucks each (50 Total)
- 6th Copy of an A-Rank Bangboo onwards: 15 Bangbucks each
- Any B-Rank Signal: 2 Bangbucks each
Players can see that, if an average 10-pull consists of at least 8 B-Rank Signals, there will be a minimum of 16 Bangbucks for every 10 Boopons used. This would put an estimate to obtain a Marcel Modified Part at similar to approximately 1,000 Signal Searches on the Bangboo Channel.
Getting the 6th or greater copy of a Bangboo may seem tempting to build Bangbucks funding. However, players should keep in mind that Boopons have a greater value than Bangbucks, especially since the Marcel Modified Part can only work once on a Bangboo. In addition to the estimate provided for a Channel using restricted currency, players may find it difficult to obtain the Marcel Modified Part in a fast matter of time. As well, direct methods of paying for Boopons are unavailable, attributing to the difficulty and inefficiency of spending on Bangboo-related upgrades.
Having different Bangboo available on the account also allows players to use two different Bangboo for Shiyu Defense; an end-game mode that requires squads to be the strongest they can be. Without another Bangboo to support your other squads of different Attributes and capabilities, they may have an underwhelming performance when trying to complete certain nodes and challenges.
So while Core Updates can be very useful to a Bangboo's damage potential, consider that the Bangboo may continue to perform sub-optimally regardless, due to its autonomous gameplay. Alternatively, the Bangboo may perform just fine for the player, making the additional Core Upgrades as only a nice-to-have bonus. In addition, obtaining other Bangboo can provide Boopon refunds and extra gameplay benefits beyond your main squad.
