Nekomata Guide & Best Builds

Welcome to our Nekomiya Mana (Nekomata) build guide for Zenless Zone Zero. Nekomata is a powerful S-Rank Physical DPS Agent. In our guide, we'll cover everything you need to know to get the most out of your Nekomata, from building the best Drive Discs and W-Engines to important stat priorities and combos.

Nekomata's Best W-Engines

Listed below are Nekomata's best W-Engines. While W-Engines are listed in a priority order, what's best to build on your Nekomata can vary based on how much you plan to invest.

Steel Cushion
Metal Cat Claws
Increases Physical DMG by 20/25/30/35/40%. The equipper's DMG increases by 25/31.5/38/44/50% when hitting the enemy from behind.
Nekomata's signature W-Engine is her best option most of the time, that being said you may see better performance from some of the other listed options if you are struggling to regularly trigger the "attacking the enemy from behind" requirement of this W-Engine.
Cordis Germina
Sprouting Core
Increases CRIT Rate by 15/17/19/21/23%. When the equipper deals DMG with a Basic Attack or EX Special Attack, they gain 1 stack of a buff. Each stack increases the equipper's Electric DMG by 12.5/14.5/16.5/18.5/20%, up to 2 stacks. Each stack lasts 40s. The duration of each stack is calculated separately. Can trigger once per use of a skill. At 2 stacks, the wearer's Basic Attack and Ultimate DMG ignore 20/23/26/29/32% of enemy DEF.
A surprisingly powerful option given Nekomata cannot benefit from the Electric DMG buffing side of this W-Engine and yet still manages to become Nekomata's second best W-Engine due to the buffs to CRIT Rate and Basic/Ultimate DMG. With this W-Engine having CRIT Rate both as the stat it grants and from this W-Engine's effect, you do want to make sure not to overcap on CRIT Rate while in-combat.
Additional S-Rank W-Engines

-

On top of the listed options, due to Nekomata being an Attack agent, she can effectively utilise a very wide range of S-Rank W-Engines such as:
  • Heartstring Nocturne
  • Myriad Eclipse
  • The Brimstone
  • Zanshin Herb Case
  • Severed Innocence
  • Riot Suppressor Mark VI
Marcato Desire
Get Everyone Fired Up
When an EX Special Attack or Chain Attack hits an enemy, the equipper's ATK increases by 6/6.9/7.8/8.7/9.6% for 8s. While the target is under an Attribute Anomaly, this effect is increased by an additional 6/6.9/7.8/8.7/9.6%.
Generally Nekomata's best A-Rank W-Engine however, Marcato Desire was an event W-Engine meaning you may not have this build option.
Cannon Rotor
Oversized Barrel
Increases ATK by 7.5/8.6/9.7/10.8/12%. Landing a critical hit on an enemy will inflict an additional 200% of ATK as DMG. This effect can trigger once every 8/7.5/7/6.5/6s.
Cannon Rotor is Nekomata's best non-event A-Rank option providing CRIT Rate and ATK increases.
Additional A-Rank W-Engines

On top of the listed options, some other A-Rank alternatives for Nekomata include:
  • Starlight Engine
  • Street Superstar
  • Gilded Blossom
  • Housekeeper

Best Drive Discs for Nekomata

Woodpecker Electro
2-Piece Set: CRIT Rate +8%
4-Piece Set: Landing a critical hit on an enemy with a Basic Attack, Dodge Counter, or EX Special Attack increases the equipper's ATK by 9% for 6s. The buff duration for different skills are calculated separately.
Nekomata's best build option providing even more CRIT Rate while also providing ATK buffs when specific attacks crit.

2-Piece Recommendations include:

  • Puffer Electro
  • Fanged Metal
  • Astral Voice/ Hormone Punk
Puffer Electro is generally going to be your best choice here however Fanged Metal is your next best option.
Fanged Metal
2-Piece Set: Physical DMG +10%
4-Piece Set: Whenever a squad member inflicts Assault on an enemy, the equipper deals 35% additional DMG to the target for 12s.
Nekomata's next best build option however notably worse than 4-Piece Woodpecker Electro. I would only recommend building this set on your Nekomata, if you already have the pieces in your inventory or are using a team without many sources of DMG % increases.

2-Piece Recommendations include:

  • Woodpecker Electro
  • Puffer Electro
Either option is competitive with the difference being very minor.

Nekomata's Stat Priority

Disc 4: CRIT Rate / DMG
Disc 5: PEN / ATK %
Disc 6: ATK %
Substats: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG > ATK % > PEN

Nekomata just wants to be built around your more generic offensive stats such as ATK %, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG. A little PEN can also be beneficial when building around substats but should not be your main focus.

Nekomata's Skill Priority

Skill Priority: > = > > >

Nekomata's most important skills to level are her Core Skill, Ultimate and EX Special Attacks.

How to Play Nekomata

Nekomiya Mana (Nekomata) is a character who specialises in Dodge Counters. These are counter attacks whenever you are able to dodge an enemy attack. Nekomata benefits from these due to Core Passive: Stealthy Paws which increases her DMG by 30% for 6s whenever Nekomata is able to successfully perform a Dodge Counter.

Additionally, when pressing during a Perfect Dodge, Nekomata deals Physical DMG in a wide AoE in front of Nekomata.

While Nekomata has other Physical or Cunning Hares characters in her squad. Nekomata is able to deal even more powerful EX Special Attacks after a character inflicts Assault. This makes it very important to time and use your EX Special Attacks after Assault has been inflicted.

Nekomata's Best Mindscapes

Bird Hunter (M1) is an amazing Mindscape for Nekomata, this is because of both the 16% Physical RES ignore as well as every attack while an enemy is being stunned is considered a Back Attack. If you do eventually obtain Nekomata's M4, you do need to be considerate that you do not overcap CRIT Rate from the additional 14% you gain.
