Class and Talent Changes

Every class gains access to 10 talent points that are distributed as follows:

  • You will receive 3 points in your Class tree. There are no new nodes, so you only have more choice.
  • You will get 3 points in your Hero tree. A fourth lane will be added for each spec.
  • You will get 4 points in your Specialization tree and spend them on Apex Talents.

For a more detailed overview, please check out each of the spec guides!

3.1.

Apex Talents

The final node inside your Spec tree includes three little pips at the bottom. This is where you spend your Apex talents. The first and final points will be the most impactful.

Here are a few examples of Apex talents for Preservation Evokers and Devourer Demon Hunters:

4.

Devourer Demon Hunter Specialization

Demon Hunters get access to a third Devourer spec with Midnight. This is a mid-range DPS specialization (range similar to Evokers) that uses cosmic void powers to defeat enemies. You can also opt in for a hybrid build where you dart in and out of range. Their main stat is Intellect.

4.1.

Signature Abilities

Devourers will have void-themed abilities. As such, their spell animations are purple instead of the usual green.

Below are some of the signature abilities Devourers will have as part of their kit:

  • Void Metamorphosis: An energy-based transformation where you must use Reap to collect Void Fragments.
  • Reap: Scythe attack that consumes Soul Fragments.
  • Collapsing Star: A powerful finisher.
  • Void Beam: Void-themed Eye Beam Icon Eye Beam that has a 25-yard range.
  • Voidblade and Hungering Slash: Melee combo with retreat.
4.2.

Devourer Demon Hunter Hero Talents

The Scarred Hero Talent tree is shared between Devourer and Havoc Demon Hunters. The Devourer specialization is getting a new Annihilator talent tree shared between Vengeance.

4.3.

Void Elf Demon Hunters

The Demon Hunter class will be available to Void Elves, in addition to the already existing Blood Elf and Night Elf options.

5.

New Zones

At launch, the Midnight expansion will have four zones. Not all of them are new, though. Some zones have been revamped for the expansion.

  • Eversong Woods: The zone previously known as the Ghostlands has healed from the wounds inflicted upon the land from the Scourge campaign, and is now teeming with life. You will be facing forces of the Void, the Lightbloom (a magical overgrowth), Void cultists, and even the trolls of the Amani clan.
  • Zul'Aman: The original Classic raid is expanded into a fully-fledged zone, revealing the ancestral lands of the Forest Trolls. Ancient forests and mountains teeming with wildlife await, as well as hidden crypts and ziggurats of the troll empire. You will explore these lands alongside the children of Zul'jin, Zul'jarra and Zul'jan.
  • Harandar: Home of the new allied race, the Haranir, this place is a primordial, fungal jungle built around the roots of the World Trees. All manners of life are derived from the plant matter that span this zone, from massive towers and bridges, to ruins infested with bioluminescent wildlife.
  • Voidstorm: Venture into a distant chaotic world brimming with Void energy, where even the creatures and inhabitants themselves fight to consume not only the Heroes of Azeroth, but also each other. Areas of low gravity and massive Nexus Points can be found in this bastion of the void.

Alongside these new zones come a treasure trove of new activities to explore, from new toys and pets to find to four new World Bosses to face. Learn more about the World Events coming to Midnight in our guides below!

5.1.

Silvermoon Rebuilt

Silvermoon City has been fully rebuilt to work like a modern city in WoW with Flying supported. Around two thirds of the city will be available to both factions with one third only available to the Horde faction. Keep in mind the city still belongs to the Horde.

6.

Player Housing

Player Housing is expected to arrive in a limited form in War Within Patch 11.2.7, but it will not be until the Midnight expansion actually launches before the feature becomes fully available to players.

Build and customize your new home with 3D placement tools for freeform or grid-based decoration! Dye your furniture, show off trophies from your adventuring or crafting exploits, and move into neighborhoods with fellow friends, guildmates or private communities!

7.

Haranir Allied Race

A new Allied Race that we first encountered in The War Within will become playable in Midnight. It is gated behind completing the max-level campaign.

8.

New Renown Factions

You will be able to build Renown with four new factions when Midnight launches, each of them being present in one of the new zones:

For more information on each of the factions and the Renown rewards you can acquire, check out dedicated Renown guides below!

9.

New Raids

Midnight will launch with 9 raid bosses spread across 3 raids to give players more options to experience Midnight's epic story.

  • The Voidspire: A 6-boss raid that serves as Xal'atath's stronghold in the Voidstorm; LFR, Normal, and Heroic difficulties will open the week of March 17th, with Mythic opening the following week.
  • The Dreamrift: A single-boss raid that takes the raid where primordial dreams and brutal reality meet; LFR, Normal, and Heroic difficulties will open the week of March 17th, with Mythic opening the following week.
  • March of Quel'Danas: A 2-boss raid full of lore spoilers; LFR, Normal, and Heroic difficulties will open the week of March 31st, with Mythic opening the following week.
10.

Prey System

Prey is an ppt-in, open-world hunting system led by Astalor Bloodsworn based in Murder Row of Silvermoon City. This system adds a layer of outdoor world gameplay for players seeking more thrill and challenge as they adventure across Midnight's zones.

You will be hunting powerful enemies across all of Midnight's zones, endure ambushes laid out for you, and choose between multiple different difficulties for your prey.

Once successful, you will be rewarded with cosmetics, mounts, titles and housing decor.

Check out our Prey guide to learn more about the system!

11.

New Delves

Expect to play through 10 new Delves in the Midnight expansion. There will also be a new Nemesis delve available at launch. Brann is taking a long-deserved break as the NPC companion and is being replaced by Valeera Sanguinar.

For more information, check out our Delves guide!

12.

New Dungeons

Midnight ships with 8 new dungeons. Magister's Terrace has been reworked with new wings that were previously unavailable, including a balcony directly over The Sunwell.

Here is a list of all the new dungeons available in Midnight:

  • Windrunner Spire
  • Magister's Terrace
  • Murder Row
  • Den of Nalorakk
  • Maisara Caverns
  • Blinding Vale
  • Nexus-Point Xenas
  • Voidscar Arena

13.

New/Returning Player Experience Changes

Exile's Reach now flows into Dragonflight. Story Mode raids now exist for Raszageth, Sarkareth, and Fyrakk. Skyriding has been simplified: there are now 6 shared charges for Surge Forward and Skyward Ascent, and the Vigor bar has been removed.

Returning players who do not need the full new player onboarding experience from Exile's Reach are offered an optional Arathi Highlands tour with Jaina and Thrall.

A War Within recap has been added. This is a multi-hour experience that takes you through the whole expansion. This will take new players from 70 to 80.

14.

Transmog Updates

Transmogrification has been completely overhauled. You can save an appearance to a specific gear slot instead of the gear itself, which means if you get a green quest item during leveling, it will not overwrite your current Shoulder transmog! New pieces of gear will inherit your saved look for that slot.

While unlocking outfit slots will cost gold, switching between saved outfits is completely free. Furthermore, you can drag outfits directly to your action bars, letting you update your looks on the go.

In Midnight, Situations allow you to set conditions for outfits, which means you will equip them automatically when you enter your house, or when you switch specs.

15.

Miscellaneous UI Improvements

Finally, the Midnight Pre-Patch brought with it numerous miscellaneous quality-of-life improvements to existing tools like the Cooldown Manager, the Single-Button Rotation, and Edit Mode. Boss Alerts have also been added into the default UI.

16.

PvP Updates

The Comp Stomp brawl expands to a permanent mode adding Battle for Gilneas and Silvershard Mines to the rotation. Slayer's Rise is a new portion of the Voidstorm zone that serves as both an open world PvP hotspot as well as a new instanced Epic battleground inspired by Alterac Valley and Isle of Conquest where players will need to conquer enemy bases before taking on their Domanaar commander.
