Heirlooms Guide
This page lists the changes to heirlooms since the Shadowlands expansion and going into Dragonflight, as well as where you can find all of the heirloom vendors for both Alliance and Horde players.
Heirlooms in World of Warcraft
Heirloom Items are a special class of items that can be bought for gold. Their power scales with the Level of your character, meaning that they can be worn for the entirety of the leveling process. Until Shadowlands, they also offer an XP Bonus.
Heirloom Items are recommended for leveling because they will almost always represent an "ideal" item for your level. In other words, they are a huge boost to your character's power and will help you survive larger pulls and kill mobs more quickly.
Heirlooms are available to all classes and specs. The vast majority of them
are purchasable for gold, but others can be unlocked via achievements or
purchased with other currencies, such as Timewarped Badges.
Heirlooms only need to be bought once for your whole account. Once you have bought an Heirloom, it can be found in the Heirlooms tab of your Collections menu (Shift+P). Clicking the Heirloom item will put it in your inventory.
Heirlooms cannot be sold on the Auction House or traded, but you can mail them between your characters, though this should rarely be needed as you can simply generate Heirlooms via the in-game Heirlooms menu.
Heirloom Set Bonuses in Shadowlands
In Shadowlands, there are significant bonuses for wearing multiple Heirloom items together. To activate all of the set bonuses, you will need to wear a Heirloom item in at least 6 of the following slots:
Note that these are not specific items that you can equip. They represent many different Heirloom items that you can put in each slot. For example, there are multiple Heirloom Cloaks that all fit the requirement for the set bonus.
The set bonuses for wearing multiple Heirloom Items are:
- 2 Pieces: Rested XP consumption is reduced by 30%. This simply makes your Rested XP period last longer.
- 4 Pieces: Increases your health generation while out of combat, letting you recover quickly from tough fights.
- 5 Pieces: Whenever you level up, you activate a Burst of Knowledge, dealing AoE damage and giving you a 40% main stat bonus for 2 minutes. Killing enemies extends this buff up to 4 minutes. It can be kept up as long as you keep killing mobs before it expires.
- 6 Pieces: Rested XP consumption is reduced by an additional 30%. This simply makes your Rested XP period last longer.
You can find out more about Rested XP on our dedicated page below.
Where To Get Heirlooms in World of Warcraft
There are different types of Heirlooms and they are unlocked in different ways.
The majority of Heirlooms (Weapons, Shoulders, Chests, Necks, and most Trinkets) can be purchased for Gold by Heirloom Curator Vendors Krom Stoutarm and Estelle Gendry.
The Alliance vendor can be found in the Hall of Explorers in Ironforge, and the Horde vendor can be found either in the Rogues' Quarter of Undercity, or on top of the Orgrimmar entrance gates.
How to Upgrade Heirloom Levels in World of Warcraft
When you get an Heirloom, you will notice that it says Heirloom Upgrade Level: 0/5 or something similar. By default, most purchasable Heirlooms will only scale up to Level 29.
You can upgrade Heirloom items to scale higher by buying special items from Heirloom Curators, Scabbards, and Armor Casings.
The first upgrade item lets your Heirloom scale up to Level 35. The next ones let Heirlooms scale to Level 40, Level 45, Level 50, and Level 60. Some Heirloom Items scale to 44 without being upgraded, and in this case you just need to buy the 45-50 and 50-60 upgrade items.
Remember that Armor-type items and Weapon-type items use different upgrade items.

This is a full list of all the Heirloom items in WoW that are available for purchase.
Note that items purchasable at the Guild Vendor require your current guild to have unlocked the "Guild Level 20" Feat of Strength achievement.

Best Heirloom Trinkets for Every Role
There are many types of Heirloom Trinket with a variety of different effects. Different roles and even classes and specs will benefit the most from different Trinkets. We have listed some of the stand-out ones here, but we encourage you to experiment and to pick Trinkets that fit your playstyle.
Best DPS Heirloom Trinkets
Swift Hand of Justice is the default choice. You can equip two at the same time, it has a good amount of passive Haste, and it keeps you topped up when fighting enemies, reducing downtime.
Infallible Tracking Charm simply does very good damage and is a great choice for the whole leveling process.
Best Healer Heirloom Trinkets
- Generally speaking, the same recommendations go for Healers as DPS when leveling primarily through Solo content.
- You can choose to swap the Swift Hands of Justice for
Discerning Eye of the Beasts to gain Mana when killing enemies instead of Health, since you have plenty of self-healing.
Best Tank Heirloom Trinkets
- Generally speaking, the same recommendations go for Tanks as DPS when leveling primarily through Solo content.
- For challenging group content, you can use the
Purified Shard of the Third Moon from Level 45 to 50, as its absorb shield can allow you to pull bigger packs in dungeons.
